Fingerlings among private entrepreneurs of Ramban

RAMBAN, JUNE 14: Fisheries Department has   distributed over 22 thousand Trout Fish Fingerlings procured from Asia's largest Trout fish farming project, Kokernag, among the private entrepreneurs of the district Ramban.

According to Assistant Director Fisheries, Ramban, Fayaz Ahmad, five private Trout units were established in the district in 2020-21 under– Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, a centrally sponsored scheme, at a cost of Rs 27.50 Lakh, which includes Rs.12.10 Lakh as central share and Rs 15.40 Lakh as beneficiary share, with Rs 5.50 lakh given for each unit.

It was informed that production of fish begins with the stocking of Fingerlings into a culture pond or raceway that ensures optimum and rapid growth during the culture system by providing supplementary feeding to allow the harvest of stocked species in the shortest cultivable time.

The fish farmers have to stock an adequate number of Fish Fingerlings for better results. The Trout is cold water exotic fish which requires cold & crystal clear, running water for its culture and a temperature ranging between 0 to 18 degree Celsius to thrive.

The Trout Stocking in the Private Raceways would be a watershed to usher a Blue Revolution in the district, as the Ramban district has a huge potential for cold water fisheries in the upper reaches, besides, it would also provide sustainable livelihood to the people, who have adopted the fish farming.
