Directs for early restoration of public utilities
RAJOURI, JULY 29: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan on Thursday took a first-hand review of damages caused due to flash floods and heavy rainfall.
Accompanied by officers of different departments including Chairman MC Rajouri, Mohammad Arif, ExEn PWD Rajouri, Maqbool Hussain; ExEn Jal Shakti Rajouri/ I&FC, Mushtaq Ahmed, Rajinder Gupta; Ward Counsellor, Mamta Dutt and other ward members, the Deputy Commissioner visited several flood-affected areas including the main city, Bella, circular road, Nabban, Workshop Bridge, Pir Kangu and Panjpeer and met with the locals.
He took a first-hand review of damages especially in terms of public utilities and agricultural land.
Discussing flood losses with field officials, the Deputy Commissioner directed for earliest restoration of public utilities besides compilation of detailed report of losses to the agriculture sector.
He said that the flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall created large scale damage in Rajouri, while loss of lives have also been reported. He said the field machinery of the concerned departments have been tasked for restoration of services at the earliest.
He further appealed to people to remain cautious as forecasts of more rainfall have been made for days to come.
Concerning the crate works for the protection bunds along the river sides, he asked the concerned officer from the Jal Shakti Department to submit the DPR in this connection to start the restoration work within the shortest possible time to prevent soil erosion and people's houses located along the riverside.
The concerned Executive Engineer from I&FC were directed to submit the riverfront development plan at the earliest.
For the detailed assessment of the damages caused by flash floods, the Deputy Commissioner asked the people to cooperate with the revenue department.
The Deputy Commissioner, during his visit to the city, was apprised by the locals that there is a mess of electric wires and BSNL cables in the city which have not been properly placed and are interwoven thereby creating a nuisance for the public. He asked the concerned authorities to look into the matter and take necessary action at the earliest in this regard to mitigate the sufferings of the people.
