The weavers from Panjar, Latti, Kulwanta , Chenani, Jakhed , Amro and Ramnagar of District Udhampur attended the awareness event.
They were educated about the financial assistance and welfare schemes run by the department for their socio economic development.
District Development Commissioner, Indu Kunwal Chib was the chief guest, while Additional District Development Commissioner Kanta Devi was the guest of honour and PO IWMP, Sapna Kotwal and District Information Officer, Ateeksha Sethi were the special guests on the occasion
While addressing the gathering, the DDC appreciated the efforts made by the Handloom Department for the welfare of the weaver/Artisan community in the district.
The DC assured to provide facilities to the weaver for sale of their handmade products.
Earlier, Assistant Director Handloom Development Department, Narsingh Dayal Verma, presented a welcome address. He sensitized the participants about various developmental schemes launched by the Handloom Developed Department for the weaver / Artisans community and encouraged them to avail the benefits of the schemes, such as Pardhan Mantri Weaver Mundra Scheme, Credit card Scheme, Education Scheme, Loan for purchase /Renovation / Modernizations of Looms, Share capital Loan, and formation of Co-operative Societies. He advised the Weavers to adopt new technology and develop new designs by replacing the old type of pit looms to modern fly shuttle looms to compete in the market and enhance their earnings.
Later, the DDC also distributed registration certificates among the newly registered cooperatives and Handloom fabrics utility canvas gags among the beneficiaries. Department has also installed the stall of Handloom hand made products for publicity.
