The 1.3 km bridge with an arch span of 467 metre at a height of 359 metres, is to be the world's highest railway bridge and a major step towards seamless railway connectivity to the Kashmir Valley. It is being constructed at a cost of Rs 1,486 crore as part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project.
Engineers of Northern Railways gave a detailed presentation about the engineering design of the bridge, especially the challenging part of Steel Arch completion, completion of the arch work, removal of the stay cables, assembly of critical parts at such a big height including challenges of working in difficult terrain under high wind velocity. The youngsters were highly motivated and clapped for the engineers.
The DC hailed the construction of the arch for a bridge 359 m above the Chenab river bed and motivated youngsters to learn from this big engineering milestone.
It shows dedication and resolve of engineers to work in difficult situations, the qualities which youth should imbibe in their lives to contribute towards development of their area and country, the DC added.
