The programmes were held at Chandak, Mandi, Kalai, Dungus, Challas, Poonch Town, Surankote and adjoining areas.
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is being celebrated across the Nation to commemorate 75 years of India's independence. As a part of this, a number of activities are being carried out in the border district Poonch.
During the awareness programme, the Information Department appealed to the public through loudspeaker announcements to follow follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour to stay safe amid the pandemic.
The people were urged to wear masks while going out of their homes, keep physical distance and avoid visiting crowded places. They were told to take tests on developing any symptoms as the District Administration has put in place arrangements for the same to ensure early intervention.
While briefing the media, District Information Officer, Manjeet Singh said that the main objective of conducting this awareness campaign is to generate awareness among the masses about COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
He appealed to the public to wash their hands with soap or use a hand sanitizer and avoid close contact with people who are sick, especially people exhibiting respiratory symptoms and fever. He informed the public that precaution is the only effective tool for the containment of COVID-19.
The announcements also appealed to the public to take vaccines as vaccination is the panacea and an ultimate solution to stay safe from the Coronavirus infection.
