Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Kumar Gupta, Chief Wildlife Warden, Jammu and Kashmir, informed that during the current monsoon season 1.25 lakh plants shall be planted in wildlife areas of Jammu region, besides planting 1.5 lakh grass slips and sowing of more than 10 lakh seed balls/dibbles and patches. He also informed that the majority of plantation programme in wildlife areas includes fruits, fodder and shade trees for improvement of habitat in wildlife areas.
Chander Mohan Gupta complemented the Department of Wildlife Protection for taking the initiative and working for improvement of habitat for wild animals. He appealed to all warmly participate in plantation drives during this monsoon season and asked for compassion for the wild animals. He also advised the Department to take the help of youth, students, NGOs and civil society in general to make the plantation drives successful.
The plantation drive was attended by Dr. Kumar MK, Regional Wildlife Warden Jammu, Anil Atri, Wildlife Warden, Jammu, Amit Sharma, Wildlife Warden, Dr. Arun Gupta, Wildlife Warden, Headquarter besides, staff of the Department, locals of the area and visitors in the Manda Zoo.
