Each one to teach ten regarding Organ donation: Dr. Navneet Kaur
JAMMU, AUGUST 13: To celebrate “Azadi ka Amrut Mahostav” and to create awareness about Organ Donation and transplantation as the need of hour and to fill this gap, State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K today organized a seminar on “Angdaan Se Jeevan Dan” (Deceased Organ Donation programme) here at Government Medical College Jammu to mark World Organ Donation Day.
During the event, students from GMC Jammu participated in Poster Making Competition and presented Skit to raise awareness among the audience about the Organ Donation.
Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal GMC Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, she said that Organ Donation is the way to live twice. She motivated the gathering to come forward and pledge organs. She said that someone who is brain dead due to some Brain Injury, Brain Hemorrhage or some other reasons, can donate and help to save 8 persons.
Dr. S.L Kachroo, Joint Director SOTTO J&K threw light on various myths regarding organ donation, brain stem death, status of SOTTO, types of donors etc. in an attempt to create awareness. He informed the gathering about how and where to pledge organs and also made an appeal to take pledge on this occasion.
RJ Juhie Madan from 92.7 Big FM also filed for Organ donation. “We can make someone happy after our death simply by donating organs. It’s a noble cause and everyone should join hands to create awareness regarding organ donation” she said.
Dr. Navneet Kaur, National Chairperson, National Human Rights Social Justice Council of India pledged to donate her eyes. She said, it is a noble cause to save someone’s life and everyone has a potential to save lives. She made an appeal to the audience and said “Each one to teach ten regarding Organ donation”.
A book on Ophthalmology by Dr. Shakeen Singh “Ophthal-Next” was also released on the occasion.
MBBS students Ritik Kaste and Pratibha Shalli also presented a detailed presentation on Organ Donation.
Ashwini Khajuria, administrator GMC Jammu; Advocate MI Zargar; Chief Executive Director, National Human Rights Social Justice Council of India, HoD’s of various departments, CAO GMC Jammu , students, Faculty, staff etc. were present during the occasion.
