JAMMU OCTOBER 31- Saying that sports hold big promise for career advancement of youth, former MLA and BJP leader Mr Devender Singh Rana today called for societal responsibility in promotion of games.
“Sports is not only beneficial for overall physical growth but lately it has emerged as a big incentive in shaping careers”, Mr Rana said at the concluding function of Bajalta Wrestling Competition, while expressing satisfaction over traditional rural sports making a big comeback.
Abdul Gani of Muneerkotla defeated Sanjay Gujjar of Delhi and clinched the winner’s trophy in the tournament organized by Dangal Committee Bain Bajalta in which wrestlers from Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh besides Jammu participated. In all 75 bouts were held in the tournament.
Congratulating the winner, runner up and others who participated in the tournament, Mr Rana expressed happiness over wrestling remaining popular among Indian youth, notwithstanding slight setbacks to the sport across the world over the years. Now, the sport is flourishing and becoming equally important and glamorous. This is a good omen for the rural activity, which has been very popular for centuries, he added.
Mr Rana expressed hope that the fierce competition between veterans in the game will provide much needed motivation and inspiration to the budding wrestlers, who have been putting their hard toil to excel in wrestling. He urged the youngsters to participate in the game in a big way and prepare for various national and international events with a sense of commitment.
“Like any other sport, the youngsters can take wrestling as a profession”, he said adding that this calls for patience, resilience, devotion and hard work.

Earlier Mr. Devender Singh Rana inaugurated a multi brand kitchen appliances and cookware s at Channi Himmat, a venture by young entrepreneurs Ajay Gupta and Raman Gupta.
He described youth initiative in setting up of income generating units as a welcome sign in tackling the burgeoning unemployment and facilitating employability. He said motivation among youth to become entrepreneurs will place them in good stead professionally and economically.
“Instead of hankering after jobs, the entrepreneurs can become job providers and thereby contribute towards employability”, Mr Rana observed, adding that the efforts are heartening and success of the venture will certainly inspire others to start their own enterprises to become self-reliant.
