SRINAGAR: On Tuesday, National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah said that while it is the right of the people in Jammu and Kashmir to hold elections, they will not beg before the Centre to do so. He pointed out that the people of the state have consistently rejected the false promises made by the Centre and its allies to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Abdullah further said that the people of the state have consistently and democratically expressed their will and desire for the restoration of the state's special status. He said that the Centre's decision to revoke the state's special status was a violation of the Constitution and the will of the people of the state. Abdullah also said that the Centre should take steps to ensure that the elections in Jammu and Kashmir are held in a free and fair manner, and the people of the state have full confidence in the electoral process. He said that the state's autonomy should be restored, and the Centre should provide the necessary resources for the conduct and supervision of the elections. In conclusion, Abdullah called on the Centre to take a step back from its attempts to silence and oppress the people of Jammu and Kashmir and instead focus on restoring the state's special status and giving the people of the state their right to elections. He said that the people of the state should not be made to beg for their right to vote, and the Centre should not deny them this right. He urged the Centre to work with the people of the state to hold free and fair elections.
