POONCH, 09/Apr/2023: Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference(JK_BADC), a registered organization working for the welfare of border residents of J & K has alleged that there are no public transport facilities available in border areas and more specifically in the villages near Line of Control(LoC) in district Poonch.
Besides making an appeal to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, District Administration Poonch, the organization also requested the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation(JKRTC) to start special buses including mini buses in border areas of district Poonch.
Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman of the BADC and former Vice Chancellor informed that during his public meetings of these areas he has been apprised by the locals as well as elected Panchayat representatives of border villages that there are no public transport facilities available in areas near LoC and it causes lot of inconvenience to the local villagers and more specifically to the senior citizens and students .
The BADC Chairman urged the government owned transport corporation (JKRTC) to consider launching special passenger vehicles routed to the border areas of district Poonch.
Dr Shazad said though there are some private passenger vehicles available to these routes but getting any seat on these overloaded buses and minibuses is almost impossible for old age people, women and physically challenged people. These over loaded vehicles are also major cause of frequent road accidents in the hilly areas, he alleged. He also called for repair of roadside damaged public sheds.
