July 18, 2023:
Director James Cameron has denied rumors that he is planning to make a movie about the recent sinking of the OceanGate submersible Titan. The submersible was carrying five passengers on a deep-sea voyage to explore the wreckage of the Titanic when it imploded, killing everyone on board.

Cameron, who directed the 1997 blockbuster film Titanic, has visited the wreckage of the ship more than 30 times. He is also an expert on deep-sea exploration and has designed and built his own submersibles.

In a statement on Twitter, Cameron said that he was “deeply saddened” by the loss of life in the Titan disaster. He said that he would not be making a movie about the tragedy, calling the rumors “offensive.”

“I don’t respond to offensive rumors in the media usually, but I need to now,” Cameron wrote. “I’m NOT in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever be. The idea is absurd and disrespectful to the memory of the people who lost their lives.”

The rumors about Cameron’s involvement in a Titanic submarine movie began circulating shortly after the disaster. Some people speculated that Cameron would use his expertise to create a realistic and dramatic film about the tragedy.

However, Cameron has made it clear that he has no interest in making such a film. He said that he would rather focus on honoring the memory of the victims.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives,” Cameron said. “I hope that we can all learn from this tragedy and work to make sure that it never happens again.”
