Emergency services at GMC Jammu need upgradation: Dr Varinder Sharma
JAMMU, Jan 24: Dr Varinder Sharma, Co-convenor of the Professional Cell at BJP J&K, extends heartfelt congratulations to AIIMS-Jammu Director, Professor Dr Shakti Gupta, for nearing completion of the prestigious medical college and hospital in Vijaypur, set to be inaugurated this February. Dr Sharma commends Dr Gupta’s exemplary efforts in establishing this vital healthcare institution, ensuring the recruitment of top-notch faculty and doctors, and providing invaluable guidance throughout the project’s execution, tailored for the benefit of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Expressing the significance of the new AIIMS in Jammu, Dr Varinder Sharma notes that this fulfills a long-standing demand, making healthcare facilities more accessible to the general public. He appeals to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to enhance emergency conditions at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Bakshi Nagar which are not up to the mark and emphasised that a hospital’s emergencies are its face and should meet high standards of care. He said beginning from parking to patient care everything needs streamlining on war footings.
He urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to improve the conditions of emergencies of Government Medical College and Hospital at Bakshi Nagar besides at other hospitals so that patients are not neglected or left to fend for themselves. He added that the emergency of a hospital is its face and they all must be made up to the mark. Dr Sharma also applauded Dr Shakti Gupta for hosting an international delegation in Jammu, featuring Professor Y K Gupta, President of AIIMS-Jammu.
The recent UK Government Chevening Award workshop on “Healthcare Leadership, Operational Excellence, and Digitalization” in Jammu is highlighted as a transformative initiative, providing medical professionals with insights into the latest technologies and breakthroughs in medical sciences. In addition, the workshop introduces a mentorship program for young healthcare professionals in India, offering co-developed learning materials and resources on medical leadership.
An exclusive online series of webinars, the ‘Chevening-Shakti Mentorship Programme,’ focusing on women in medicine, will connect 50 Indian women physicians and nurses with international experts over the next year. Dr Varinder Sharma concluded by sharing the progress of AIIMS-Jammu, with 42 completed buildings encompassing hospital facilities, OPD, emergencies, staff quarters, hostels, and green areas.
He anticipates that once open to the public, AIIMS-Jammu will serve the healthcare needs of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of Punjab, opening up new avenues for all. Dr Varinder Sharma said that AIIMS-Jammu became a cornerstone in addressing healthcare needs not only for Jammu and Kashmir but also for Himachal Pradesh and parts of Punjab, marking a paradigm shift in the regional medical landscape. It is also hoped that till GMC emergency services at GMC are improved AIIMS, Vijaypur will cater to people’s needs.
