Animal earned more than Rs 800 crore at the box office. According to reports, Animal is expected to be released on Netflix.
It is reported that Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandana, Tripti Dimri and Anil Kapoor starrer Animal will start streaming on Netflix from January 26, 2024. However, now a court case has been included in it.
Reports suggest that the alleged co-creator Cine1 Studios has sued T-Series for non-payment and sought a stay on the OTT release of Animal.
According to a DNA report, Cine1 Studios has filed a case against T-Series in the Delhi High Court claiming that the production house has not paid its share in the intellectual property rights of the animal.
The complainant has reportedly argued that the production house had entered into a contract under which Cine1 Studios had a 35 per cent profit share, and also claimed that it was entitled to a 35 per cent stake through intellectual property rights.
Stating that the signed acquisition agreement has been violated, Cine1 Studios has demanded that Animal should not be released on Netflix.
In the report, senior advocate Sandeep Sethi, appearing for Cine1, said, “They (T-Series) are collecting all the money, but I have not been paid a single penny… I have a long relationship with them, but they don’t respect that. I respected the sanctity of the relationship and contract, therefore, I did not rush to court.”
On the other hand, senior advocate Amit Sibal, appearing for T-Series, claimed that Cine1 Studios did not invest in the film and gave up all intellectual property rights for Rs 2.6 crore.
On August 2, 2022, the contract was amended and accordingly Rs 2.6 crore was paid. The next hearing in this case is scheduled for 18 January 2024. It remains to be seen whether the OTT release of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal gets delayed due to this court case.
