Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi Merry Christmas Released in theaters on January 12. The film received a lot of love from the critics as well as the audience. On Opening Day, the movie had a slow start with a gross of Rs 2.45 crore.
Merry Christmas continued its first Tuesday at the box office. According to a Sacnilk.com report, with a slight drop, the film grossed 1.15 crore on the fifth day in all languages in India.
According to the portal, the film’s total business now stands at around 12.53 crore in India. Reportedly, the Hindi version of the film saw an occupancy of 10.25 per cent on Tuesday. The Tamil version had a total occupancy of 26.04 per cent.
The Hindi version earned 1.45 crore, while the Tamil version earned 20 lakh.
Merry Christmas was released in Hindi and Tamil. Katrina Kaif is opposite Vijay Sethupathi for the first time. Apart from them, the Hindi version of the film also stars Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan and Tinnu Anand. Tamil stars Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jaya Babu and Rajesh Williams in similar roles.
The film revolves around Christmas Eve, which turns the world of two people upside down. When two strangers meet, romance flourishes and the story takes a strange turn. It has been shot in two languages – Hindi and Tamil with different supporting cast.
“Merry Christmas” is Vijay Sethupathi’s third Bollywood film after “Mumbaikar” and “Jawan” last year. “Mumbaikar” premiered on Jio Cinema, while “Jawan” garnered a global box office collection of over Rs 1100 crore.
Meanwhile, Katrina Kaif’s last appearance was in the espionage thriller “Tiger 3” opposite Salman Khan, which grossed over Rs 450 crore worldwide.
Sriram Raghavan, known for films like “Ek Haseena Thi,” “Johnny Gaddaar,” “Agent Vinod,” “Badlapur,” and “Andhadhun,” is making his sixth feature film, “Merry Christmas.”
