UDHAMPUR JANUARY05: NSS Units of Govt. College for Women (GCW) Udhampur today inaugurated 7 Day Annual Winter Special Camp on the theme Viksit Yuva Viksit Bharat under the aegis of Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat@ 2047.
The Annual Winter Special Camp was inaugurated by Padamshree Prof. Shiv Dutt Nirmohi in presence of NSS Programme officers Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma and Prof. Shama Rani including faculty members of the college.
Prof. Shiv Dutt Nirmohi, chief guest of the day, historically elaborated the inception of NSS as a movement in the mid 20th century as a youth participation in nation building via National Service. He also elaborated the then need of the hour to raise such an organisation for the cause of nation which engages the youth in social development. He also appealed to the NSS Volunteers to take the idea of Viksit Bharat to grassroot level and ignite the same from elementary strata of the country so as to shape it to a movement.
He also pioneered the importance of studying the history and culture of our civilization which would complement the initiative and vision of Viksit Bharat.
Prof Anjali Mahajan, Principal of the college in her message, appreciated the efforts of NSS wing of GCW Udhampur for organising such type of programmes to inculcate amongst the students a sense of community engagement, besides their academic development. She also motivated the students for Swachhta-hi-Sewa and other flagship programmes of NSS (in the campus and adopted village) as a tool for national building.
Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, NSS Programme officer of the college presented the keynote address wherein he exhorted upon the significance of Annual Camps in NSS. Besides, he also presented a detailed account of different activities to be carried out in the weeklong calendar of the decided theme of the camp; Yoga, sports, visits to village, cleanliness and awareness lectures.
Earlier, the programme began with the floral welcome of the chief guest and lighting of traditional lamps. Around 100 NSS volunteers participated in the camp. The programme was also enriched by the volunteers by reciting NSS and patriotic songs.
Amongst other who graced the occasion were Prof. Ravinder Kumar, Prof. Yash Paul, Prof Sanjeev Upadhyay, and Prof. Om Parkash. The programme ended up with the formal vote of thanks by Sanjay Kumar former NSS programme officer, GCW Udhampur.
