JAMMU. Feb 2: Dr. Varinder Sharma, Co-convenor of BJP Jammu and Kashmir Professional Cell, while describing Budget 2024 as visionary said that this interim union budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, a seasoned professional and a dedicated member of the BJP aims at shaping the economic landscape of the nation, particularly in the context of Jammu and Kashmir. With grants of Rs 37,277.74 crore, an increase from the previous fiscal year, Jammu and Kashmir is poised to witness substantial infrastructural growth and socio-economic upliftment.
Rs 500 crore Revenue grants for Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project, Rs 476.44 crore for Ratle 800 MW hydro-electric project, Rs 171.23 crore for Kwar hydro-electric project and Rs 130 crore for 624 MW Kiru hydro-electric power projects which are coming up in Kishtwar district of Jammu region will get a boost and once the work on them is completed, they will make Jammu and Kashmir self sufficient in generating power.
In his statement, Dr. Varinder Sharma expressed his appreciation for the budget’s comprehensive focus on fiscal prudence, infrastructure development, and empowerment initiatives. He remarked, “The Budget 2024 reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering inclusive growth and prosperity across all regions of India, including Jammu and Kashmir. The emphasis on infrastructure, tourism, green energy, and technology aligns perfectly with our vision for the holistic development of the region.”
Dr. Sharma highlighted several key aspects of the budget that hold significant promise for Jammu and Kashmir saying that increased allocation for infrastructure projects will bolster connectivity and economic development in Jammu and Kashmir, facilitating smoother transportation and enhancing accessibility to remote areas. He said the budget lays emphasis on tourism development and investment incentives will unlock the tourism potential of Jammu and Kashmir, attracting visitors and driving economic growth in the region.
He added that the extension of welfare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat to benefit Anganwadi and Asha workers, underscoring the government’s commitment to inclusive development. The measures announced to promote green energy and technology innovation resonate with the aspirations of the youth in Jammu and Kashmir, offering opportunities for skill development and employment generation. As Co-convenor of the Professional Cell at BJP Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Varinder Sharma expressed confidence that the budget’s provisions will contribute to the socio-economic progress of the region and empower the people of Jammu and Kashmir to realize their full potential.
