SAMBA, FEBRUARY 02: Ecoclub and Department of Environmental Sciences of Government Degree College Vijaypur celebrates World Wetlands Day by organising Slogan cum Poster making competition on the college campus.
Nearly 25 students of semester VI actively participated in the Slogan cum Poster making competition.
First position was bagged by Munisha Gupta of BA Sem VI, Second position was achieved by Kajal Kumari of BA Sem VI and third position went to Riya Devi of Sem VI.
Consolation certificates were awarded to Shriya Verma and Rohit Singh of BA Sem VI. Competition was adjudged by Prof. Ritu Bhagat, Prof. Manoj Kumar and Prof. Radhika Rasyal.
Earlier, the programme was initiated with the welcome address by Prof. Poonam Kundan (Convener, Ecoclub and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences). She briefed students about the importance of wetlands and she further said that the World wetlands day is observed on February 2 every year with an aim to raise global awareness about the crucial role of wetlands for people and the planet. She also stressed on this years’ theme that is “Wetlands and Human Being” that is about the interconnectedness between wetlands and various aspects of human health.
Principal of the college, Dr. Vandana Gupta appreciated the efforts of the students for their active participation in the college activities. She said that the day highlights the urgent need to prioritize wetland restoration and to raise awareness about wetlands to reverse their rapid loss and encourage actions to conserve and restore them.
The whole event was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan and co-coordinated by Prof. Renuka Kundal, Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo and Prof. Madhu Bala (Members of Ecoclub). Certificates were also awarded to the active participants.
