RAJOURI: For decades, residents of the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch have been dreaming of a direct railway link. However, the project, which is important for strategic and developmental reasons, continues to face hurdles. Despite a survey submitted in 2018, the project was considered “financially unviable” by the Railway Ministry in 2022 due to an estimated cost of Rs 22,771 crore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to come to Jammu to inaugurate major projects on Tuesday 20th, which has rekindled hopes. More than a million people in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch are anxiously awaiting his decision – will he revive their hopes for the Jammu-Poonch railway line, transforming this vital border area?
