Promoting the Welfare of the Biradari Community: The Role of Charak Biradari Sabha (CBS)
JAMMU, MARCH 28: The Charak Biradari Sabha is a registered organization established for the welfare of the biradari, including the management of biradari assets. The CBS constitution specifies that the President, Senior Vice President, and General Secretary will be elected through a ballot paper election. A general meeting was held at B.D. Bari on March 3, 2024, where it was unanimously decided to hold the election on March 31, 2024. The election was announced by the Biradari Chief Pattern, Th Gulchain Singh Charak (former Minister J&K), who was appointed as the returning officer for the election.
However, a few days later, a notification was issued by the central government regarding parliamentary elections, making it impossible to complete the process without the cooperation of the administration, including the police department. Consequently, the Biradari Sabha unanimously decided to hold the election on May 12, 2024, after the parliamentary election. The election process will commence on April 20, 2024.
Candidates interested in contesting for the positions of President, Senior Vice President, and General Secretary must submit their nomination forms at the Biradari Office in Chhanni Kartholi from April 20 to April 22. The withdrawal deadline is April 23, and the names of the contestants will be declared on April 24, 2024. The voter lists have been finalized, and the preparation of the ballot boxes is underway. Seven Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) have been appointed, and presiding officers, along with polling officers, will be nominated shortly for the 15 polling stations in District Samba (4) and District Jammu (11).
In response to the CBS announcement, it has come to our attention that some self-proclaimed leaders are planning similar actions. The Charak Biradari is a registered organization, and any adult who believes in the CBS constitution can contest. Contestants are required to obtain a form from the office and submit it with a character certificate, three photos, Aadhar card, affidavit, and a declaration of belief in the CBS constitution.
It is noteworthy that there is a historical Shiva temple and a large pond constructed by the Charaks centuries ago, along with a vast land attached to the temple in Sunjwan, Chatta, and Greater Kailash in Jammu. The Charak Welfare Society, registered in 1987, was responsible for managing the land and temple. While this society has been defunct in government records, some individuals are operating bank accounts under its name and have formed a Mandir Trust, claiming to be the sole trustees until death.
According to certain newspapers, around 34 kanals and some marlas of land have been transferred to other communities for 60 lakhs, although its actual value exceeds 9 crores. The biradari has requested government agencies to investigate this matter, leading some involved individuals to spread rumors and attempt to disrupt the election process. Despite fake propaganda aimed at defaming prominent biradari personalities, we remain patient and focused on conducting peaceful elections.
