Sources say Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is considering resigning from his current post, increasing speculation about his possible candidature in the upcoming elections.
According to inside reports, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is considering contesting from Ghazipur Lok Sabha seat, a constituency he has previously represented. The possible return of Sinha, who has contested from Ghazipur on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket in the past, adds an interesting dimension to the upcoming elections.
The possibility of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s candidature has set the stage for an exciting electoral contest in Ghazipur. Samajwadi Party (SP) has already announced its candidate for the seat, in which Afzal Ansari, brother of Mukhtar Ansari of Purvanchal, has been nominated. Notably, the Ansari family has significant influence in the area, making the contest on this seat particularly tight.
Ghazipur, located in the Purvanchal region, has long been considered the electoral stronghold of the Ansari brothers. After the demise of Mukhtar Ansari, the political turmoil in the parliamentary constituency has intensified. Recently, SP national president, Akhilesh Yadav visited Ghazipur to meet Mukhtar’s family, and underlined the importance of the upcoming elections in the region. The presence of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in Ghazipur after Mukhtar’s demise also underlines the strategic importance of this seat.
