Emphasizes coordination among stakeholders for enhanced protection & management plans
KATHUA, JUNE 24: In a decisive move to bolster flood preparedness ahead of the monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, chaired a high-level meeting to review and strategize anti-flood measures across the district.
The meeting focused on ensuring robust coordination among all concerned departments to optimize planning and execution of flood mitigation efforts.
The DC underscored the importance of synergy between departments including Revenue, Police, Health, and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. He highlighted that integrated efforts are paramount to effectively respond to and mitigate flood risks.
A detailed review of the current flood control measures was conducted, covering the desilting of rivers and nullahs, construction of embankments, retaining walls, and the establishment of flood shelters. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department provided a comprehensive update on the progress of these initiatives, emphasizing ongoing work to fortify the district’s flood defense infrastructure.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to fast-track their efforts and ensure the completion of flood control projects before the monsoon arrives.
The DC also directed BDOs to earmark specific funds for flood protection plans within their respective jurisdictions, particularly to address vulnerable points identified in their areas.
Tehsildars were instructed for issuing timely alerts to residents living near riverbanks and nallahs to ensure their safety and preparedness in the event of rising water levels.
The DC also stressed the need for timely dissemination of water levels/ early warning besides comprehensive community awareness and preparedness initiatives. He directed concerned departments to sensitize people living in flood-prone areas and aware them about flood risks and safety protocols.
SSP Kathua Anayat Ali, ADC Kathua Ranjit Singh, SDM Hiranagar, SE Hydraulic Kathua, XEN Flood Control,XEN Irrigation, XEN PHE, ACD and other concerned officers were present.
