JAMMU, MARCH 01: The NSS unit of Government Degree College Marh concluded the seven Day Special Winter Camp organised on the College Campus under the aegis of Higher Education Department. The camp was organised to develop a sense of social responsibility, leadership, and teamwork among students through community service.
The seven Day camp was inaugurated by Padma Shri Lalit Magotra and the College Principal Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul on Feb 21, 2025.
The College Principal emphasized the importance of youth participation in social causes, while Prof. Anjana Chib, the Co-convener of NSS Committee briefed volunteers about “Sustainable life style and NSS.” She said NSS instills values of self-reliance, eco-friendliness, and community engagement.
Volunteers undertook Cleanliness Drive on the college campus and in village Panchayat Dhateryal. An exhibition of Bird’s picture with their local name was conducted by Prof. Sachin Kumar along with NSS volunteers.
The second day began with Cleanliness drive, where volunteers cleaned the campsite (Dhateryal) and surrounding areas. Dr. Shakun Sharma (HOD Sociology) delivered an insightful lecture regarding camp survey and awareness about Women Economic status, Empowerment and Education. An awareness lecture on “Road Safety” was followed by an awareness Rally in the adopted Village Dhateryal led by PTI Ravi Kumar.
Principal Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul also had thought provoking dialogue with the Volunteers regarding the “Road Safety”.
A survey on “Women Economic & Educational status and Socio-Economic Status” of the adopted village Dhateryal was also conducted where in the NSS volunteers had a live interaction with the female residents of the area and understood the problems faced by them. They also performed cleanliness drive in Panchayat Ghar. Volunteers also raised awareness among the villagers about various social issues such as domestic violence, drug abuse, cleanliness and women rights etc. Cleanliness Drive and Shramdaan was conducted in the College premises as well as at the adopted Village Dhateryal by the Volunteers along with the Program Officer for the beautification of the surroundings.
An awareness lecture on “Importance of Fundamental Duties” was delivered by Prof. Sachin Bhagat. Prof. Sachin Kumar Bhagat conducted a captivating story telling session, weaving tales that sparked imagination and creativity among participants.
A campus and beautification drive was organized. The volunteers worked together to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the college. This initiative promoted environmental awareness, team work, and community pride. Volunteers also participated in the Intra-college Quiz Competition held on the occasion of National Science Day.
At the Valedictory Session, the College Principal congratulated NSS coordinators and volunteers for their dedication as well as hard work and urged the students to continue the spirit of volunteerism which made them responsible, compassionate and proactive citizens.
Senior volunteer Bobby Kumar Baitha of semester VI expressed that NSS has been a life- changing experience, making them more socially responsible, environmentally conscious and compassionate individuals.
