JAMMU: The Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, inaugurated a three-day skill training workshop on post-production techniques today, aimed at equipping students with practical media production skills essential for thriving in the dynamic media landscape.

Industry Experts and Keynote Address

The inaugural ceremony welcomed Anil Gakkhar, Resident Editor, Dainik Jagran Jammu, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Durgesh Tripathi, Dean, School of Media, Indraprastha University, New Delhi, who delivered the keynote address. The event marked a collaborative initiative to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry demands.

In her welcome address, Prof. Garima Gupta, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, underscored the department’s dedication to providing experiential learning opportunities for students. Aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, she emphasized that the workshop aims to cultivate industry-relevant skills in media production.

Insights from Media Experts

Chief Guest Anil Gakkhar shared valuable insights on post-production techniques in print media, explaining the critical role of editing, layout design, and content refinement in shaping news delivery. In his keynote address, Prof. Durgesh Tripathi highlighted the evolving landscape of the media industry, stressing that post-production proficiency is a necessity in the digital era.

Prof. Alka Sharma, Chairperson, SIIEDC, JU, emphasized the importance of skill-based learning in media studies, while Dr. Ajay Gupta, former Director, ICSSR, spoke on the role of post-production in research and publication, underlining its impact on content quality and presentation.

Hands-On Training Sessions

The workshop, scheduled from March 3 to March 5, will provide students with hands-on training sessions covering:

  • Editing Techniques
  • Content Refinement
  • Post-Production in Research and Print Media

The first session featured practical demonstrations by Yogesh Manhas, a renowned photographer, followed by Dr. Sachin Bharti, Associate Professor, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, on media production and post-production techniques.

Experiential Learning Aligned with NEP 2020

During an interaction with resource persons, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai reiterated the University of Jammu’s commitment to experiential learning, aligning with the vision of NEP 2020 to provide industry-oriented education.

The inaugural session was moderated by Ms. Kumerjit Chajgotra and attended by distinguished faculty members, including Brajesh Mishra, filmmaker, Dr. Pardeep Singh Bali, and Dr. Ramiyan Bhardwaj, along with students and media professionals.

The workshop is set to empower students with professional skills in media production, enhancing their employability and competence in the competitive media industry. By offering practical training in post-production techniques, the University of Jammu continues to foster an environment where academic excellence meets industry relevance.
