ANANTNAG, MARCH 16: In a recent crackdown, acting on specific intelligence input, the enforcement team South Kashmir laid a special Naka on intervening night of 14th & 15th March 2025 and intercepted 02 vehicles carrying battery scrap and imposed penalties to the tune of Rs 6.31 Lakh under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime on taxpayers involved in the trading and transportation of battery scrap without proper GST documentation and compliance.

The GST authorities have noted an increasing trend of battery scrap transactions being conducted without proper invoicing, registration, or the payment of applicable taxes. Under GST law, any supply of goods, including battery scrap, must be accurately documented, taxed, and reported. Failing to comply with these obligations not only breaches GST regulations but also creates significant risks for the environment and public health.

Businesses engaged in the sale, purchase, and recycling of battery scrap are reminded that they must be properly registered under GST and comply with all tax reporting requirements. These measures aim to ensure transparency, accountability, healthy competition among taxpayers and also the proper management of hazardous materials in line with environmental and health regulations.

The department urges all traders, recyclers, and transporters of battery scrap to review their GST compliance status and rectify any discrepancies. Failing to do so may result in further penalties and a review of their operations.

The enforcement drive was carried out by a team of STOs/Inspectors/Sub Inspectors/Guards in supervision of Anil Kumar Chandail, Deputy Commissioner, Enforcement South Kashmir under the guidance of  P.K. Bhat Commissioner, State Taxes J&K, and Parvez A Raina Addl Commissioner State Taxes, Kashmir.


 ANANTNAG, FEBRUARY 25: In a major enforcement action, the team from Enforcement South Kashmir of State Tax Department has realized a huge penalty of Rs 11,18,068 from a tax payer carrying rigid tubes, pipes, hoses, and  fittings made of propylene polymers in violation of GST regulations.

Acting on specific intelligence input, the enforcement team laid a special Naka and intercepted a vehicle in violation of GST norms  by passing  fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) without actual movement of goods in which 03 taxpayers were involved.

During investigation it was found that a Delhi based firm generated 02 e-invoices and E-Way bills worth Rs 73,29,554 in favour of two taxpayers but was carrying goods of Rs 36,64,777 only.

The enforcement drive was carried out by team of STOs, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and guards led by Anil Kumar Chandail, Deputy Commissioner, Enforcement South Kashmir under the  guidance of  P.K. Bhat Commissioner, State Taxes, J&K and Pervaiz A Raina Addl Commissioner State Taxes, Kashmir.

Commissioner and Addl Commissioner appreciated the efforts of Team South Kashmir for efficiently handling big cases which will help in tax compliance and in  neutralising the nexus of tax evaders using fake ITC.

They emphasized the department's commitment in fostering a culture of accountability and strict compliance of GST laws & rules.

 

GMC Anantnag becomes first among newly established GMCs to get its dedicated Cath Lab

ANANTNAG, FEBRUARY 20: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, inaugurated Catheterization Laboratory (Cath-Lab) and newly constructed Block-A of Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beigh Memorial (MMABM) Associated Hospital, GMC Anantnag, here today.

MLAs of district Anantnag including Abdul Majeed Bhat; Peerzada Mohammad Syeed; Reyaz Ahmad Khan; Altaf Ahmad Wani and Zafar Ali Khatana besides Principal GMC Anantnag, Professor Dr Rukhsana Najeeb; Director Coordination New Medical Colleges; Director Family Welfare, MCH and Immunisation; CMO Anantnag; Medical Superintendent MMABM Associated Hospital; Heads of various departments of GMC Anantnag; officers from health and medical education and other concerned departments were also present on the occasion.

While dedicating the Cath-Lab and Block A of GMC Anantnag to the public, the Minister remarked that this significant development marks a new era in the healthcare services across South Kashmir, as GMC Anantnag becomes first among newly established Medical Colleges to get its dedicated Cath-Lab. “With inauguration of Cath-Lab, people of South Kashmir will get the best possible medical care services close to their doorsteps, especially in terms of cardiac care”, she stated.


The Minister highlighted that Omar Abdullah led government is committed to provide world class healthcare facilities to the public near their doorsteps. “Present Government is determined to establish world class medical infrastructure in J&K besides removing certain shortcomings in the health sector”, Sakeena maintained.

The Minister added that healthcare must be the first priority for all, adding that doctors and other healthcare workers must uphold the trust of people. She acknowledged that there is shortage of manpower, assuring that these shortcomings will be addressed soon.

The Minister also appreciated the administration and staff of GMC Anantnag and its associated hospital for providing best healthcare services to people of South Kashmir.

On the occasion, Principal and Dean of GMC Anantnag, Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, highlighted the work done and achievements of GMC Anantnag. She expressed gratitude to the Health Minister for providing remarkable support to GMC Anantnag for upgradation of manpower and infrastructure. She also congratulated the people of South Kashmir for getting the best medical care close to their doorsteps.

Pertinently, with the inauguration of Cath-Lab, people of South Kashmir as well as Pir Panjal region will have a sigh of relief as they will get the best cardiac healthcare services in their vicinity.

Later, the Minister also felicitated Dr. Syed Maqbool, Dr. Shamim Iqbal and Dr. Showkat Hussain Shah, Cardiologists of GMC Anantnag for their excellent work and commitment in cardiac care.

 


Anantnag, January 05:  The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), in collaboration with the Health Department of Anantnag, organized a Medical and Eye Checkup Camp for drivers at the Sumo Stand in Bijbehara. The event, conducted under the aegis of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, was part of the ongoing Road Safety Month 2025 campaign.

The primary objective of the camp was to ensure the physical fitness of drivers, with a special focus on eye health. 

A team of experienced medical professionals and paramedics provided free eye checkups and basic health diagnostics to drivers, ensuring they are fit to operate vehicles safely.

This initiative is part of the government's broader efforts to enhance road safety awareness and reduce the incidence of road accidents. With a growing focus on improving driver health, the camp aimed to educate drivers on the importance of maintaining good physical health, particularly vision, to prevent accidents caused by impaired judgment or reaction times.

The medical team also offered advice on maintaining general well-being, emphasizing the role of healthy practices in reducing accidents and fostering a safer driving environment.

Local drivers expressed their gratitude for the initiative, with many hailing the camp as a positive step toward improving road safety. Several drivers voiced their support for holding such camps regularly in the future to help maintain their health and ensure safer roads.

The ARTO Anantnag, Dr. Showket reiterated their commitment to organizing more such camps, contributing to a broader campaign aimed at bringing about a significant change in road safety practices and reducing traffic-related accidents in the region.

This initiative is expected to have a lasting impact on the safety of both drivers and passengers, highlighting the importance of health and safety in preventing accidents and fostering a culture of road safety across Anantnag district.

 


Govt committed to develop J&K’s own syncretic Culture: Union MoS

ANANTNAG, JULY 14: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, today threw open the ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Uma Bhagwati for the devotees at Brariangan in Shangus Tehsil, Anantnag.

The temple has been reopened after a gap of nearly 34 years.

The Union Minister was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid, Senior Superintendent of Police Anantnag, Dr G V Sundeep Chakravarthy, officers from the district administration and office bearers of Uma Bhagwati Asthapan Trust.

During the re-opening ceremony, the idol of goddess Uma, brought from Rajasthan was placed in the sanctum sanctorum.

The Union Minister, while addressing the gathering of devotees, expressed confidence that a large number of devotees shall visit the temple on its re-opening. He said that the government’s commitment towards a developed J&K and the UTs own syncretic  culture shall go a long way to develop J&K into a prosperous and peaceful region. 

Notably, Uma Bhagwati temple at Brariangan is an ancient shrine where devotees used to come in large numbers from different parts of the J&K to pay obeisance to the  Goddess. The temple is situated amidst five springs including “Brahma  Kund, Vishnu Kund, Rudhra Kund and Shiv Shakti Kund”.

ANANTNAG, OCTOBER 27: Principal Secretary Finance, Santosh Dattatreya Vaidya, convened a Public Grievance Redressal camp at Khanabal, Anantnag to assess public issues and concerns besides taking stock of development profile of the district.

During the camp, Principal Secretary met various delegations including members of DDC, BDCs and PRIs, MC representatives, traders, fruit growers, civil society members and beneficiaries of various welfare schemes. He listened to grievances and demands raised by them concerning their respective areas and assured them of an early redressal of the same.

Principal Secretary, while highlighting the significance of these public darbars in addressing public issues and concerns, appealed the general public to actively participate in such government programmes for their own welfare. He said that it is firm commitment of present dispensation that good governance is taken to all at their doorsteps without any discrimination.

He emphasized upon the officers to regularly monitor implementation of schemes of their respective departments which is of paramount importance for obtaining the desired results.

The delegations expressed gratitude to Principal Secretary and the UT administration for their dedicated efforts in addressing the developmental needs and aspirations of people of the district.

Later, the Principal Secretary chaired District Development review meeting and assessed progress on various development projects being executed under Centrally Sponsored and UT Sector schemes.

Principal Secretary exhorted upon the district administration to ensure that all essential services are in place during winter period to avoid any inconvenience to common masses. He emphasized the need to properly maintain power and road infrastructure for seamless traffic flow.

He also had a comprehensive review of the progress recorded under various sectors and schemes in the district.

Deputy Commissioner, Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid, provided a detailed overview of the district's overall functioning and the progress achieved under Centrally-sponsored and UT government schemes.

 


ANANTNAG, SEPTEMBER 03: Additional District Commissioner (ADC) Anantnag in presence of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Anantnag today inaugurated Ayushman Bhavah’ campaign at Old Age home Pazalpora and Iklavia school Anantnag to envisage & saturate all identified health care services in every village/ town in line with the commitment of Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi to ensure access to health care services to everyone in the society.

'Ayushman Bhavah’ initiative involves a set of interventions that include ‘Ayushman - Apke Dwar 3.0’, ‘Ayushman Melas- at Health and Wellness level and Medical Camps by Medical Colleges at CHCs’ and ‘Ayushman Sabhas’ and eventually ensuring Gram Panchayat / Urban ward to attain the status of ‘Ayushman Gram Panchayat’ or ‘Ayushman Urban Ward’ in a saturation mode.

During the campaign health check up was ensured to all registered beneficiaries besides various items including sports kits ,carom board, Medical Kit, winter thermals were distributed.

The Additional district commissioner (ADC) with a firm commitment to success directed all stakeholders to ensure success of Ayushman Bhava Campaign at all levels and ensure awareness regarding all health care schemes to the general public from 1st September to 31st December 2023.


 District Administration & People welcome the Chaddi Mubarak with great enthusiasm

ANANTNAG, AUGUST 26: The auspicious Chaddi Mubarak reached the historic Surya Temple of Mattan from Srinagar today which was welcomed by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, SF Hamid, SSP Anantnag, ADC, CMO and other officers of the district besides the other sects and beliefs of the locality along with the representatives of the Mattan Tirith Trust.

It is pertinent to mention that Puja of the Chaddi Mubarak is held at various places enroute to Holy Cave and has to stay at various padavus (stations) as per the past Hindu religious practices.

The Chaddi Mubarak has to reach Holy cave on 31st of August on Sharvan Purnima. Puja of chaddi Mubarak was held by the sadu mandals and other devotees at Mattan in presence of a large number of locals and officials.

The DC on the occasion said that every possible facility was made  available for the devotees of SANJY 2023 and this time more than 4.50 lakh pilgrims visited the shrine safely, and safety and comfortable yatra was the prime concern of the administration. He further added that all sects of society were helpful and cooperative for conducting a successful yatra and hospitality of Kashmiris was again appreciated by the Pilgrims.

 Mahendra Depander Giri while speaking at Mattan briefly gave the religious and historic importance of the Amarnathji Yatra and Shrine.

He added that devotees showed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the District Administration and UT government of J&K for smooth conduct of SANJY and hospitality of kashmiri people have always made the yatra enriching spiritually.

While answering the questions of the media, Mahant Mahendra Giri said that for prosperity to prevail, peace is the prerequisite condition and appealed to the people to shower love on everyone irrespective of creed, colour and caste.

The officers of District Administration, officials of the Health, MC Mattan, Information, Revenue and other deptts, were present on the occasion. President Mattan Tirith Trust, Ashok Sidha was also present in the ceremonies at Mattan.

Later, the Chadi Mubarak was taken to Gorishankar Temple, Pahalgam from Mattan where it shall stay for a night and leave towards Holy Cave tomorrow, halting for a night at each Yatra Station.


 ANANTNAG, AUGUST 17: A significant meeting focusing on Tuberculosis (TB) co-morbidity was today convened under the chairmanship Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Anantnag, Bashir Ahmad Wani at DC office, here.

The meeting discusses key aspects of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP).

District Tuberculosis Officer Anantnag and Kulgam, Dr. Syed Faheem through a PowerPoint presentation provided insights into the program's performance and various ongoing initiatives related to the NTEP.

The ADDC interacted with the patients and representatives from civil societies and non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) present at the meeting. Commending the efforts of the District Tuberculosis Officer and the NTEP staff, the ADDC underscored the valuable work they have been contributing to the program.

During the proceedings, constructive directions were passed to all stakeholders present, outlining strategic measures to bolster the effectiveness of the NTEP.

The collaborative spirit exhibited during the meeting underlines the commitment of the local healthcare community, NGO’s, media representatives, and patients to combat TB co-morbidity.

The event concluded on a positive note, reflecting a shared dedication to overcoming the challenges posed by TB co-morbidity through collaborative efforts and strategic action.

The meeting was attended by CMO Anantnag, MY Zagoo; Medical Superintendents and Block Medical officers of both Districts Anantnag and Kulgam including GMC Anantnag.

 


ANANTNAG, JULY 28: A team of Food Safety department (FSD) Anantnag today sealed "White Chilli Restaurant" on receipt of a complaint against White Chilli Restaurant.

The Food Safety team Anantnag under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner, Zamer conducted inspection of the restaurant premises and observed deviations against different provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006/Rules which include Food preparation area/kitchen of the restaurant completely in dilapidated condition with lack of maintenance and in insanitary condition.

During the inspection utensils were found untidy, messy, damaged and some were non food grade.

There was direct entry of birds and pests into the Food preparation area, dust & dirt was found everywhere within the premises of Kitchen. Utensils and tools were dirty, having stains and spots and were unhygienic.

On seeing the restaurant in such a worse condition, the Food Safety Department Anantnag sealed the restaurant under the Food Safety Act.
