 Reviews Wullar Lake conservation measures at Bandipora

BANDIPORA, FEBRUARY 24: Commissioner Secretary, Forest, Ecology, and Environment Department, Sheetal Nanda, on Monday visited Bandipora to review the ongoing conservation measures on Wullar Lake.

The review meeting, held at the Mini Secretariat Bandipora, was attended by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force J&K, Suresh Gupta; PCCF & Chairman Pollution Control Committee, Vasu Yadav; Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir, Irfan Rasool; Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Manzoor Qadri; Chief Executive Director WUCMA, Mohammad Younis Malik; Chief Engineer  I&FC Kashmir; Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) Department for North Kashmir and senior officers from various departments.

During the meeting, the Commissioner Secretary was briefed on conservation initiatives including the comprehensive management action plan, dredging activities, infrastructure development and the willow removal action plan. She emphasized the block-wise removal of willow trees, desilting of the lake and strict prevention of waste disposal in Wullar to maintain its ecological balance.

Sheetal Nanda directed the concerned authorities to prioritise fencing around vulnerable areas to prevent encroachments and protect biodiversity. She stressed for expediting the completion of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for proposed projects and called for a coordinated approach among departments to ensure smooth execution of conservation efforts.

Recognizing Wullar Lake’s vast eco-tourism potential, the Commissioner Secretary underscored the need to develop tourism in a sustainable manner that does not disrupt the lake’s delicate ecosystem. She instructed that ongoing eco-tourism projects be completed in a time-bound manner. She emphasised the involvement of Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) in promoting community-based eco-tourism and sustainable resource harvesting.

Regarding solid waste management, she directed for formulation and execution of an action plan in coordination with the Swachh Bharat Mission and AMRUT. She also instructed for preparation of DPRs for inlets and detention basins, along with installing trash barriers to prevent waste inflow from the catchment area. She asked the Pollution Control Committee (PCC) to intensify water quality sampling by increasing collection points.

The Commissioner Secretary called for improved coordination among various departments involved in conservation efforts to ensure smooth completion of all ongoing works.

The Commissioner Secretary asked the Deputy Commissioner to ensure regular monitoring of the ongoing projects. She directed to resolve any emerging issues promptly in order to  facilitate smooth progress and effective implementation of the conservation initiatives.

The Deputy Commissioner Bandipora assured that regular monitoring of Wullar conservation works is being carried out, with efforts to resolve bottlenecks through inter-departmental coordination. He also informed that a solid waste management facility is in the pipeline, undergoing an Environmental Impact Assessment, while an action plan for waste management in 08 panchayats will be implemented in the next financial year.

The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force J&K, highlighted that the Forest Department has established Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) in each panchayat to support community-based eco-tourism around Wullar. These committees will play a key role in planning and managing the sustainable harvesting of resources such as fish and water chestnuts from the lake. Additionally, BMCs will be engaged in solid waste management efforts under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen). He also emphasised the need to expedite revision of the Comprehensive Management Action Plan, currently being undertaken by Wetland International South Asia (WISA).

Earlier, the Commissioner Secretary led a plantation drive at Wullar Vantage to enhance green cover. She also conducted a site inspection to assess ongoing conservation measures on Wular.

Later, the commissioner Secretary, released two publications regarding Wullar lake, namely ‘Report on assessment of icthyofaunal biodiversity of Wullar lake’ authored by SKAUST K fisheries division and ‘Fact  Sheet of fishes of Wullar’.


 Bandipora February 24:  Kisan Samman Samaroh was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bandipora today to witness the launch of the 19th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. 

The event at KVK Bandipora witnessed the participation of a large number of farmers from various parts of the district. 

At KVK Bandipora, the District Development Council (DDC) Vice Chairperson, Kousar Shafeeq, was the chief guest.

 In his address, VC DDC Bandipora Kousar Shafeeq emphasized the importance of adopting modern agricultural technologies to improve productivity and sustainability in the district. 

She urged farmers to implement the latest techniques in agriculture and allied sectors for the overall development of Bandipora’s farming community.

 Programme Coordinator KVK Bandipora, Dr. Tariq Sultan, highlighted the consistent efforts made by KVK to uplift the farming community.

He underscored the importance of skill development, training programmes, and technical support provided by the Kendra to empower farmers and enhance their livelihood.

The event concluded with an interactive session where farmers were encouraged to share their feedback and experiences, providing valuable insights for further improving the agricultural initiatives in the region

Among others the event was attended by  Chief Agriculture Officer Bandipora,  Javaid Iqbal Samoon,  Chief Horticulture Officer Bandipora, Farooq Ahmad Tantray and other concerned.

 


Bandipora, February 16: The Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri today chaired a meeting to discuss the preparation of an action plan for waste management in and around Wular Lake in the VC room of the Mini Secretariat Bandipora.

The meeting focused on the strategic plan to address waste management and conservation issues concerning Wular Lake.

It was informed that the district is set to address waste management in 30 villages, including 8 villages from Baramulla and 22 villages in Bandipora, including the town.

During the meeting,  it was revealed that the action plan will focus on several key aspects including Solid Waste Management and address the treatment of 23 major inlets, local drainage system renovation, and waste segregation at the source, focusing on biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.

Speaking on the occasion, DC emphasized the need for a comprehensive and sustainable approach to solid waste management, outlining the importance of collaboration between various departments and agencies to ensure the successful implementation of the action plan. 

DC stressed that this Action Plan will transform Wular Lake into a model of environmental management.

He emphasized the need for innovative solutions to address the waste management challenges in and around Wular Lake and highlighted that this is a new issue requiring creative and effective strategies. 

Deputy Commissioner M. A. Qadri directed the Pollution Control Board to submit inputs regarding waste hazards, which will be incorporated in the action plan.

Bandipora February 11: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri on Tuesday flagged off a group of 40 silkworm rearers (farmers) for an exposure tour.

The exposure tour is aimed at providing participants with hands-on experience and practical insights into the latest advancements in sericulture.

District Sericulture Officer Bandipora apprised the Deputy Commissioner that during the exposure tour the farmers will visit key sericulture centers, including the Temperate Sericulture Research Institute Mirgund, Basic Seed Station Mirgund, and the P4 Basic Seed Station Manasbal. 

He informed that the participating farmers had previously attended a 03-day skill Development Programme under HADP.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner M.A.Qadri said that the exposure tour will offer an opportunity to witness modern sericulture practices and technologies that could be applied to enhance productivity and  equip farmers with essential skills to improve their silkworm rearing practices.

He emphasized the importance of exposure tours, stating that such visits  provide valuable first-hand experience and practical knowledge to the farmers besides highlighted the role of these initiatives in empowering the farmers particularly  youth  to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the growth of the sericulture sector.


 BANDIPORA, FEBRUARY 01: The District Information Centre (DIC) Bandipora, in collaboration with the District Administration Bandipora, organized an Interaction-cum-Felicitation Ceremony for media persons on Saturday at the Mini Secretariat, Bandipora.

The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, and attended by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Mohammad Ashraf Bhatt, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Zaffar Husson Shawl, District Information Officer (DIO), Aadil Manzoor Wani besides  media persons.

Addressing the function, DC acknowledged the pivotal role of the media in highlighting public issues, disseminating information, and fostering awareness among the masses.

He lauded the role of media in highlighting developmental, social, and administrative achievements & progress.

He emphasized the importance of constructive collaboration between the District Administration and the media, highlighting that such synergy is essential for promoting transparency, accountability, and public welfare.

He stated that the felicitation ceremony is aimed to recognizing the media as a vital stakeholder in the district’s development.

On the occasion, media persons from various outlets were felicitated & presented mementos  for their  remarkable contributions in the implementation of developmental works & schemes.

Published from Blogger Prime Android AppBandipora, January 04: In order to boost the local economy and encourage self-reliance among the farming community, MLA Sonawari, Advocate Hilal Akbar Lone, on Saturday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Cooperative Fruit Parlour in Hajin town of district Bandipora. 

The event was attended by SDM Sumbal Mir Murtaza, Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Bandipora, Adnan Nazir besides other senior officials, cooperative society members and a large gathering of people.

Speaking at the event, the MLA highlighted the importance of such ventures in transforming the agricultural landscape of the region. He said the parlour will not only provide a platform for farmers/locals to sell their produce but also add value through modern packaging, processing, and branding.

Lone said, the Cooperative Fruit Parlour in Hajin is part of a broader government initiative to promote cooperative models in rural areas, ensuring socio-economic upliftment and rural prosperity besides providing employment opportunities.

The MLA also directed the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies Bandipora to organize awareness camps across the Sonawari region. He said, it is essential to educate people about government schemes so they can fully benefit and secure sustainable livelihoods.

He urged locals to actively participate in cooperative initiatives, stressing that such platforms not only ensure economic stability but also contribute to community welfare.

On the occasion, the Deputy Registrar Cooperative informed that the parlour, established under the aegis of cooperative society, is equipped with modern storage and refrigeration facilities to ensure the freshness of fruits. It will serve as a hub for direct sales, eliminating middlemen and enabling farmers to receive fair prices for their produce, he added.

 Emphasizes public awareness of Government Schemes

BANDIPORA, JULY 16: Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Ghulam Ali Khatana conducted a comprehensive performance review of various departments, progress of development projects and healthcare facilities during his visit to Gurez today.

His engagements included department-wise assessments aimed at accelerating progress and enhancing public awareness of government initiatives.

The MP convened a meeting with sub-divisional and sectoral officers to discuss ongoing infrastructure projects, road connectivity improvements, educational initiatives, and healthcare provisions in Gurez.

The discussions highlighted the necessity for timely project completion and stressed a collaborative approach to effectively tackle local challenges.

Emphasizing transparency and accountability, Ghulam Ali Khatana underscored the importance of publicizing government schemes to ensure broader accessibility and increased participation among the local population.

He emphasized that public awareness plays a crucial role in maximizing the benefits of government initiatives aimed at fostering socio-economic development.

During his visit to the CHC Dawar Gurez, MP interacted with patients and healthcare providers to gain firsthand insights into the quality of medical services offered. His assessment aimed to improve healthcare facilities and enhance service delivery to meet the evolving needs of the public.

BANDIPORA, APRIL 27: Continuing its efforts to raise voter awareness campaigns among the masses under the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation), a Signature Campaign was today held at Government Degree College (GDC) Sumbal.

The Campaign was organised by Assistant Returning Officer 14- Sonawari in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Club, GDC Sumbal.

ARO 14-Sonawari, Aamir Choudhary said that the signature campaign was launched this week in sub division Sumbal to increase voter awareness and participation in the democratic process.

The programme held at GDC Sumbal was intended to build a participative democratic character among students and encourage them to vote and make an informed decision during the elections.

On the occasion Selfie points with the message, My Vote-MY Right, Proud to be a Voter, Nothing Like Voting- I Vote for sure were also installed.

The SVEEP signature campaign received overwhelming response from students and staff and a large number of students, faculty and non-teaching staff took active part in the campaign and registered their signatures on the signature board encouraging them to become active participants in the electoral process.

 BANDIPORA, DECEMBER 13: As part of ongoing Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, Commissioner Secretary Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Zubair Ahmad, Wednesday inaugurated District Indoor Rowing Championship organized by District Water Sports Association in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora.

On the occasion, Zubair Ahmad also witnessed a captivating display of cultural performances during the Yatra (VBSY) at Auditorium Kaloosa, Bandipora.

On the occasion, District Development Council Chairperson Ab Gani Bhat, Vice Chairperson Kowsar Shafeeq, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad, ADDC Bandipora Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, CEO Mohammad Amin Beigh, besides BDCs, PRIs and locals were also present. The event was also attended by Padma Shree Faisal Ali Dar and other prominent sports enthusiasts.

The ceremony kicked off with the inauguration of the sports tournament, symbolizing the commitment to fostering a healthy and active community.

 BANDIPORA, DECEMBER 13: Commissioner Secretary, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Zubair Ahmad, on Wednesday  visited Bandipora district as part of Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra (VBSY), a transformative journey aimed at fostering development and progress across the Nation.

District Development Council Chairperson, Abdul Gani Bhat, Vice Chairperson Kowsar Shafeeq, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Owais Ahmad, ADDC, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, DDC members, BDC members, PRIs and other senior officers were present on the occasion.

Commissioner Secretary said that Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, launched by Prime Minister, is a proactive initiative to bridge the developmental gaps and ensure that every corner of the nation flourishes through various centrally sponsored welfare schemes. “The Yatra aims to bring together government officials, local leaders including DDCs, BDCs, PRIs, and communities to chart a course of action for inclusive and sustainable development of every nook and corner of the country”, he maintained.

Commissioner Secretary said that VBSY reflects government’s commitment of leaving no area behind in the march towards a stronger, developed and more vibrant India.

Subsequently, Commissioner Secretary administered pledge, urging officers and the public to commit to the nation's integrity and progress.

On the occasion, the DC informed the Commissioner Secretary that during the ongoing VBSY all 151 panchayats besides all 43 Urban Local Bodies have already been covered by the Information Education and Communication (IEC) Van comprising cent percent coverage of the district.

Dr Owais informed that during the yatra, several schemes including Jal Jeevan Mission, Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, PM PRANAM Yojana and Urea Subsidy Scheme were showcased.

The DC said the yatra still continues across different areas of the district to further disseminate information and awareness regarding different flagship schemes of the Central Government.

On the occasion, a live demonstration of various centrally sponsored schemes was also held.

Earlier, the Commissioner Secretary inspected various stalls installed by different departments. He also handed over authority and sanction letters to various beneficiaries pertaining to welfare and  income generation schemes.


Supporting the persons with disabilities our moral obligation: Dr Owais

BANDIPORA, DECEMBER 03: The District Administration Bandipora in collaboration with District Disability Rehabilitation Centre Bandipora, Department of Education, Social Welfare Department Bandipora, HOPE Disability centre on Saturday organised a programme to celebrate ‘International Day of persons with Disabilities-2023’ at Mini Secretariat Bandipora.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed was chief guest on the occasion while Additional District Development Commissioner Bandipora, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, was also present.

The theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, this year, was ‘United in action to rescue & achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities’.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that this day is observed to highlight issues that affect people with disabilities and to work for their well-being, dignity, and rights.

He said ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’ is celebrated to encourage increased assimilation of persons with disabilities in the socio-political, economic, and cultural aspects of life. He said this day widens our outlook and promotes the understanding of the concept of disability and mobilizes local, national, and international support for the rights, dignity, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

He stressed on appropriately addressing the needs of people arising due to the disability.

The DC said it is our moral responsibility to support persons with disabilities and realize their full potential within the society.

Stressing on the education of persons with disabilities, Dr. Owais said education is the single greatest tool for achieving social justice and equality and urged all concerned to take concrete steps to educate the children with disabilities.

He stressed on creating a genuine space for persons with disabilities in accordance with their special needs and asked the department of Social Welfare, Health and Education to work with extra zeal in order to create a friendly environment for persons with disabilities.

On the occasion, students from Inclusive Education Wing displayed mesmerizing cultural programs.

Later, wheel chairs, hearing aids, and prosthetic devices besides certificates and mementos were distributed among specially abled persons.

The program was attended by the President of J&K handicapped association Bandipora Nazir Ahmad Lone, CEO Bandipora, CMO Bandipora, local citizens, specially-abled persons and other concerned.


 BANDIPORA, OCTOBER 25: As part of the National Action Plan for Senior Citizens scheme, the Department of Social Welfare Bandipora in collaboration with JKSWM (IA) Senior Citizens Home Bandipora Tuesday organized an Art and Creativity activities program for the elderly residents of the community. 

A large number of senior citizens participated in the program, eager to explore their creative sides and enjoy the camaraderie of their peers. The activities offered a range of artistic expressions, including painting and article-making using recycled paper waste, as well as the unique and delightful challenge of balloon puncturing.

In addition to artistic endeavors, soft games specially designed to cater to the senior citizens' interests and abilities were also conducted. The program aimed to provide a holistic experience of creativity and recreation for this distinguished group of individuals.

District Social Welfare Officer, Hidaitullah Mir said that in a world where the elderly sometimes feel neglected, the Art and Creativity Activities program shines as a beacon of inclusivity, promoting the active involvement of our cherished senior citizens in meaningful and enjoyable pursuits.

 


BANDIPORA, OCTOBER 25: In order to ensure the efficient and timely execution of development projects and schemes, the Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC) Bandipora, Ab Gani Bhat, Wednesday convened a meeting to assess the progress and status of Rural Development Department works and schemes within the district.

The meeting was attended by Vice Chairperson Kowsar Shafeeq besides all the members of District Development Council Bandipora.

Among others, ADDC Bandipora Ali Afsar Khan, Nodal Officer Coordination/ ACD Bandipora, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak besides the officials of Rural Development Department Bandipora also attended the meeting.

The meeting threadbare discussed the current state of ongoing projects and evaluate the efficacy of rural development programs including comprehensive assessment of the status of ongoing projects and programs.

The Chairperson DDC directed the officers to Identify any obstacles or challenges that may be impeding the progress of rural development initiatives and work collaboratively to find solutions.

He laid stress on transparency in project implementation and expenditure, ensuring that every rupee allocated for development is utilized judiciously.

The Vice Chairperson on the occasion urged for community participation in the planning and execution of development projects in order to ensure they align with local needs and priorities.

On the occasion, the officials of the Rural Development Department provided detailed project details/updates and highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve rural infrastructure, livelihood opportunities, and quality of life for the people of Bandipora district.


 BANDIPORA, OCTOBER 23: To receive Amrit Kalash from  every nook and corner of the district, the district administration Bandipora Monday organised a mega event at Mini Secretariat Bandipora.

The grand event was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad in presence of DDCs, BDCs and PRIs.

Besides others, the programme was attended by all the district and sectoral officers including Nodal Officer Coordination/ACD Bandipora Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, DDCs, BDCs, President MC Bandipora Basharat Najar, President MC Hajin Irshad Ahmad Wani, District Information Officer Bandipora Bilal Ahmad Mir beisides all the BDOs.

During the mega function, Mitti Kalash from all the bocks of the district besides municipalities containing mitti from households across the district was collected with much patriotic enthusiasm at District Headquarter Bandipora.

It was given out that the Amrit Kalash will be sent to Divisional headquarters and then to New Delhi Kartavya Path for Amrit Vatika. It was further given out that the Amrit Kalash Yatra involved the collection of soil/mitti from each household across the district, symbolizing unity and dedication to the nation.

On the occasion, Dr Owais said that Nationwide ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ Campaign under the banner of Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) aims to pay tribute to the beloved Motherland and the courageous veers who have made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

The DC praised the people of Bandipora for overwhelmingly participation  in the ongoing nationwide campaigns, thereby symbolising unity and patriotism towards the Nation.
