DODA, APRIL 03: In line with the directives of the District Development Commissioner, Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports organized girls’ sports competitions under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.

The event, held in two zones—Bhaderwah and Bhallessa—aimed to promote the empowerment of girls through sports and encourage their active participation in physical activities.

A total of 90 girls from different institutions and panchayats of twin   zones participated in the competitions. Zone Bhaderwah hosted Kabaddi, while Zone Bhallessa organized a Volleyball competition, allowing young athletes to showcase their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The initiative emphasized the importance of providing equal opportunities to girls in both education and sports, fostering confidence and leadership qualities among them.

The event not only celebrated the sporting talent of young girls but also served as a platform to raise awareness about gender equality and the importance of empowering the girl child.

Encouraging participation in sports plays a crucial role in breaking stereotypes and inspiring young girls to pursue their dreams fearlessly. The initiative was widely appreciated by the participants and community members, reinforcing the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and the role of sports in shaping a progressive society.

 


KATHUA, DECEMBER 14: To sensitise and create awareness regarding gender equality, a three-day program on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) was inaugurated today by Deputy Commissioner, Rakesh Minhas  here in the Government Degree College for Women,  Kathua.

                The three day programme, organised by Social Welfare Department Kathua, will feature activities like poetry, music, skits on women empowerment, panel discussion and felicitation of women achievers.

On the inaugural day, the event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of students, parents and faculty, besides people  from the surrounding areas. The stage was set with thought-provoking speeches, inspiring performances, and an interactive session, all aimed at spreading awareness and encouraging women empowerment.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC complimented the participants and emphasized that the effective implementation of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme for empowering girls has always remained the topmost priority of the district administration.

Highlighting the importance and significance of empowering women and girls, the DC stressed that promoting gender equality is crucial in accelerating sustainable development. He highlighted the initiatives taken by the government to educate and empower the girl child, ensuring they are at par with boys in every respect.

The programme included various activities that showcased the achievements and resilience of women in different fields. Additionally, a panel discussion comprising prominent academicians and social workers shed light on the challenges faced by women in accessing education and the importance of equal opportunities.

The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme at Government Degree College for Women, Kathua, also aimed to mobilize the community towards an inclusive approach in nurturing young girls and providing them with equal opportunities to excel in their chosen fields.

The Principal GDCW, Kathua, Savi Behl expressed her gratitude to all the participants and speakers. She emphasized that the college remains committed to empower girls through various initiatives and provide them with a safe and nurturing environment to hone their skills.

HOD Hindi Department, Mukesh Kumari said “the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme at Government Degree College for Women served as a catalyst in fostering positive change in society, inspiring numerous individuals to actively support the cause of educating and empowering girls”.

The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme, a flagship initiative of the Government of India, focuses on promoting gender equality and the education of girl children. With an aim to address the declining child sex ratio and ensure wider participation of girls in education, this programme has been instrumental in bringing about positive change in communities across the country.

The event was a resounding success, culminating with the felicitation of meritorious girls, women achievers including 6 JKAS Women officers hailing from Kathua district besides giving financial assistance to Sunita Kumari.
