SRINAGAR, JULY 27: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha attended the National Convention on “Sufism: A Bridge Between Communities”, in Srinagar, today.

Sh Arif Mohammed Khan, Governor of Kerala presided over the conference organised by Cluster University of Srinagar in collaboration with J&K Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages.

Governor of Kerala, Sh Arif Mohammed Khan, in his address, remembered the invaluable contributions of Lal Ded, Nund Rishi, Sufis and Saints from Jammu & Kashmir in strengthening the spirit of unity and oneness.

Their teachings and writings will continue to be the beacon of light for humanity, the Governor of Kerala said.

Our ancient heritage teaches us peace, love and humanity. The people of all religions, all sects are one family. The continuity of our culture, values, traditions is the biggest power of India that empowers our great nation to flourish, he added.

In his address on the occasion, the Lt Governor Shri Manoj Sinha highlighted the influence of Sufism in the culture and traditions of Jammu Kashmir.


“Harmonious relationship among all sects, individuals and relationship with the whole existence without distinction is real Sufism. It is way of life that promotes and propagates ideals of communal harmony, love and peace among the people,” the Lt Governor observed.

At the Convention, the Lt Governor shared the transformational journey of UT of J&K towards peace, prosperity and inclusive development.

“Peace is prevailing, nightlife has returned and people are living freely,” he added.

Today is also a historic occasion when Muharram procession was taken out peacefully in Srinagar after a gap of over 30 years, the Lt Governor said.

The Lt Governor extended his gratitude to the Hon’ble Governor of Kerala for gracing the occasion and blessing the participants with his words of wisdom.

He congratulated the Cluster University of Srinagar and the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages for their endeavour to promote the Sufi traditions.

He also called upon the people to embrace the Rishi-Sufi traditions and eliminate all traces of communal divide to strengthen unity.

Prof. Qayyum Husain, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Srinagar gave a detailed overview of the Convention.

Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; Padma Shri Dr SP Varma; Vice Chancellors of various Universities; senior officials of UT administration; prominent citizens, students in large numbers attended the inaugural ceremony.

SRINAGAR, JULY 27: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha remembered the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala.

In a statement, the Lt Governor said: “I bow to the martyrs of Karbala and recall sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his ideals. Today is a historic occasion for Shia brethren in Kashmir valley as after 34 years 8th Muharram procession is taking place on the traditional route, from Guru Bazar to Dalgate”.

The 8th Muharram procession used to come out from Guru Bazar and culminate at Imambargah Dalgate before it was banned in 1989.

“For 34 years, Muharram procession was banned on the traditional route. We respect the sentiments of Shia brethren and I assure the community that the administration will always stand by them. It is also the testimony to change and normalcy in J&K UT,” the Lt Governor said.


Today the entire world is witnessing commitment and determination of the government to ensure peaceful environment, freedom, love, compassion and harmony in society, he added.

“It is an occasion to reaffirm our commitment to peace and dedicate ourselves to the progress and prosperity of J&K UT. Several historic decisions have seen the light of the day in a few years and a peaceful J&K has emerged on the horizon. Let’s further strengthen our bonds and unity,” the Lt Governor said.

Timely and hassle-free credit to small and marginal farmers would play important role in increasing production: LG

SRINAGAR, JULY 26: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today chaired a high-level meeting to review performance of Agriculture Production Department and progress made in agriculture, allied sector and flagship scheme of Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).

The meeting, at Civil Secretariat, was attended by Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Sh Shailendra Kumar, Administrative Secretary, Agriculture Production Department (Addl. Charge); Sh Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary, Finance Department; Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor; Sh Baldev Prakash, MD & CEO J&K Bank; Dr Nazir A Ganai, Vice Chancellor SKUAST Kashmir and other senior officers.

The Lt Governor directed the officials to establish 2000 Kisan Khidmat Centres on priority for handholding and clusterization and linking all farmers to institutional credit.

Timely and hassle-free credit to small and marginal farmers would play important role in increasing production, he added.

Highlighting the important role SKUAST-Jammu and SKUAST-Kashmir in conceptualizing Holistic Agriculture Development Programme, the Lt Governor said the continued support of two Universities in implementation of 29 projects should be ensured.

He further directed to extend Daksh Kisan module to colleges to inform budding entrepreneurs about scope and opportunities in agri-business.

The High Density Plantation Scheme has been extended to 13 Crops now. The farmers should be provided with guidance and support to chart out a new course and reap the benefits of technology extension, better infrastructure and improved marketing facilities, the Lt Governor told the officials.

The Lt Governor congratulated the officials and all stakeholders generating overwhelming response from farmers across the UT for the ongoing Kisan Sampark Abhiyan.

The Lt Governor directed for impact assessment of Kisan Sampark Abhiyan and exploring the possibility to extend the drive beyond August so that maximum farmers are covered and maximum utilization of schemes under HADP is ensured.

He said, the 29 interventions of HADP focuses on quality, productivity and efficiency in Agriculture and Allied Sectors.

“Our sustained efforts can propel subsistence agriculture to sustainable commercial agri-economy and mitigate the challenges faced by farming community. It should be our collective endeavour to provide effective IT support for monitoring of HADP’s project implementation,” the Lt Governor said.

The Lt Governor impressed upon the officials for dedicated IT teams to bridge the knowledge deficit, improve the reach and strengthen the inter-sectoral approach for effective implementation.

The Lt Governor issued instructions for using Common Service Centres as learning facilities for youth and directed for monitoring every step of HADP by constituting a dedicated and exclusive IT team with the required technical support. Directions were also passed to Banks to monitor credit disbursal at the highest level.

He also called for increasing the reach of YouTube channels and to publicise the mobile applications on App download stores and also streamlining Daksh Kisan for hybrid skilling of farmers.

The Lt Governor also took appraisal of the different schemes, initiatives, achievements of the Agriculture Production Department and the progress on the training, orientation, and onboarding and Skilling programs for farmers under HADP.

SRINAGAR, JULY 21: Sh. Chanchal Kumar, Managing Director, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) called on Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan today.

The Managing Director NHIDCL briefed the Lt Governor on the status of various road projects of NHIDCL in Jammu Kashmir. Discussion was also held on the expeditious completion of Z-Morh and Zojila tunnels.

The Lt Governor assured all cooperation and assistance of J&K UT administration to NHIDCL.
