The problem with trying to find the fastest WordPress hosting available is that you can’t really do it overnight. JAMMU: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K, Sh. Pandurang K. Pole, today took an extensive virtual review of poll preparedness in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir here at Nirvachan Bhawan, Jammu. The meeting was attended by all the District Election Officers along with the Heads of Departments of PWD, BRO SAMPARK, IMD, PMGSY and NHAI. The CEO was briefed by the DEOs about the steps being taken up in the districts to ensure smooth conduct of Lok Sabha elections 2024. The District Election Officers apprised the CEO of the status of AMF, printing of ballot papers, commissioning of EVM’s, distribution of voter information slips, Transport plan, webcasting of polling stations, status of model Polling stations and welfare of polling personnel. It is pertinent to mention here that 5 districts of the UT are going to poll in the first phase of elections scheduled to take place on 19th April 2024. The DEO’s were instructed to strictly comply with the SOPs issued by the Election Commission of India for last 72 hours before the date of poll. The DEOs of districts going to poll in the phase two were further instructed to ensure 100% distribution of voter information slips among eligible voters before 20th of March. Additionally, the officers were instructed to undertake comprehensive SVEEP exercises to ensure maximum participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In view of the ongoing weather disturbances, the District Election Officers were directed to prepare and implement an inclusive Disaster Management Plan so as to ensure incident-free elections. Stressing on the welfare of Polling Personnel, the Chief Electoral Officer instructed the officers to appoint a Nodal officer for Polling welfare and to ensure that the officials are given proper amenities.

Jammu, December 20: A delegation of All India Masih Seva Dal, called on Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan, today.

The delegation led by Sh Camres David apprised the Lt Governor on various welfare issues of the Christian community.

The Lt Governor assured the members of the delegation of the appropriate redressal of the issues put forth by them during the interaction.

Prof. Dr. Alok Srivastava, Professor of Chemistry, Punjab University, Chandigarh also called on Lt Governor and presented the book ‘Bio-Nano-Geo Sciences-The Future Challenges’ edited by him.

District Mineral Office Organizes Awareness Programme cum Seminar on Responsible Mining and Environmental Conservation at Kishtwar

Kishtwar,05-08-2023:The District Mineral Office Kishtwar under the aegis of Meri Matti Mera Desh, organized an informative awareness programme cum seminar at the Conference Hall, DC Office Complex Kishtwar.

The event witnessed active participation from approximately 150 attendees, including Heads of HydroElectric Power Project, Mining lease holders, representatives and owners of Stone crushers, as well as representatives of NGOs.

The programme, chaired by Dr. Brijesh Kumar Manhas, District Mineral Officer Kishtwar, emphasized the importance of responsible mining practices and the urgent need for environmental conservation. Dr. Manhas urged the attendees to strictly adhere to the government’s guidelines during mineral extraction to ensure sustainable development and preservation of natural resources.

During his address, Dr. Manhas encouraged corporate entities and mining lease holders to take up plantation drives across vulnerable areas, including sliding areas, project sites, as a step towards ensuring long-term environmental serenity.

The seminar featured resource persons from various organizations, with L.M.S Parihar Founder cum Advisor of Vishwashanti NGO for peace, Environment & Rural Development providing a detailed insight into environmental preservation for future generations. Parihar shed light on anthropogenic activities that contribute to environmental degradation and sensitized participants about the social responsibilities of corporates in promoting sensible mining practices.

The event aimed to foster a deeper understanding of responsible mining practices and create awareness about the essential role each individual and organization plays in preserving the environment for a sustainable future.

 BANDIPORA, JUNE 23: Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda, on Friday visited Bandipora district and inspected One Stop Center (OSC) at District Hospital Bandipora besides Child Care Institute and Cradle Baby Reception Centre, Sonerwani.

She took stock of the facilities being made available at One Stop Centre and the shelter home and also reviewed its functioning.

She was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad, District Programme Officer, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Joint Director Planning, Imtiyaz Ahmad and officers of social welfare department.

On the occasion, Commissioner Secretary was informed about the functioning of the centre and the assistance being provided there to the women.

Sheetal Nanda also reviewed the functioning of District Hub for Empowerment of Women in Bandipora (Erstwhile Mahila Shakti Kendra).

Commissioner Secretary was also informed about the infrastructure development going on in the district, including recent construction of Tribal hostel, etc.

Sheetal Nanda instructed for creating mass awareness among the people regarding various welfare measures being implemented and provided through ICPS.

She directed for taking out Child Protection Services in the district to the next level, which will act as a boon for all the children of the district in particular and UT in general.

Commissioner Secretary also took stock of working of Observation homes and the staff position of these vital units of ICPS.

Gender Specialist, Aisha Shafi, informed the Commissioner Secretary about the performance of the hub.

She informed that they are regularly interacting with women and facilitate them in availing the benefit of various schemes. She informed that 13 cases of females have been sent to Sheep Husbandry Department for establishment income generation units.

She said the Hub has also referred 40 girls for skill development at RSETI under Beti Bachao Beti Padao scheme.

Besides, the hub has also recommended 25 children from 0-10 age group for opening Sukanaya Samridhi Accounts in Post Office wherein they are being given 8 percent interest on savings.


 BUDGAM, JUNE 16: A team of Horticulture department Budgam today visited Nasrullahpora area in the district to create awareness and management of Apple Leaf Blotch Miner and other Pests and Diseases in Orchards.

The team headed by Chief Horticulture Officer Budgam comprised of Senior Scientist of Sheri Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K) and other Officers of the Department.

The Chief Horticulture Officer stressed upon participating farmers to follow the Advisory issued by the Department of Horticulture in letter and spirit so that the infestation of the pest is managed in its initial phase.

He also advised the field functionaries of the Department to remain alert and keep monitoring about the status of the management/SOPs followed by the farmers.   

Later, the Chief Horticulture Officer Budgam listened to the problems of the Farmers. He assured them that the department will leave no stone unturned to resolve their issues and the availability of the pesticides will be kept available hassle free to the farmers.

Chief Horticulture Officer on spot distributed advisories amongst the farmers who were present there in the Awareness camp and also directed the field functionaries to upload the advisories in “Farmers WhatsApp Groups”.

 Says facility to ensure prompt & streamlined public service delivery

BUDGAM, JUNE 16: The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Budgam, Akshay Labroo today inaugurated Public Facilitation Centre at Deputy Commissioner Office, here.

The centre houses all major public dealing sections at one place including verification, land revenue, relief, Hajj, red cross, judicial, rent, tree section etc.

DC said that the facility would ensure prompt and hassle-free service delivery to the general public of Budgam.

He inspected various sections to take stock of functioning of these offices and instructed concerned Office bearers to ensure  smooth and prompt service delivery.

The DC impressed upon the officials that upgradation on facilities including benches, sign boards, and public washroom facility be also completed at the earliest for convenience of the general public.

Among others, ADDC, Dr Akramullah Tak; JD Planning, ACP, Executive Engineers, R&B, Budgam and officials of various engineering wings  were also present on the occasion.

 

Media students hone their skills in digital storytelling

JAMMU, JUNE 15: The much-needed and most effective storytelling skill for media students through digital photography marked its beginning at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, here today.

Two times National Award-Winning, Photography Officer of Public Relations Office, Ministry of Defence, Jammu Shib Narayan Acharya is conducting the two-day workshop on photography, photojournalism and visual storytelling with a special focus on digital photography.

In her welcome address, Dr. Garima Gupta, HoD, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu encouraged the budding journalists to make the best academic use of such workshops that enables them with industry-specific skills. She also said that such initiatives help in establishing the quality of work being done by the media department at University of Jammu. She appreciated the faculty members for initiating ideas that help media students navigate through their journalistic training with excellence.   

Prof Sucheta Pathania, Dean, Faculty of Arts, congratulated the Head of Department, Journalism and Media Studies Dr Garima Gupta for always embarking upon ambitious and exciting projects despite being the youngest department of the University of Jammu. In her presidential remark, Prof Pathania told the students the importance of photography and its essential relationship with the profession of Journalism. She emphasized on the use of photos to tell stories effectively.

SN Acharya started the workshop by sharing the history of photojournalism and explained the basic components of a professional camera and scientific principles of photography. He also explained to the students some important ‘formulas’ of photography and videography that can help in capturing the subject with fine details. Students were given training to cover photo features on day-to-day- situations, with an eye for details that tell a story through multiple dimensions.  He also shared his work with the students and discussed the story ideas that lie in the eyes behind the lens along with techniques that help in capturing the best shots.

In its commitment to provide hands-on training to the media students, the department of Journalism and Media Studies, JU, is actively inviting experts from the industry on a regular-basis. Such initiatives will create opportunities for media students and help in bringing quality to the field of journalism in J&K. The interactive workshop ended with a round of questions and answers.

 


BUDGAM, JUNE 14: the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC), and Women Helpline 181 today jointly organized an awareness program at GHSS Narbal showcasing an unwavering commitment towards women’s empowerment and societal transformation.

The event held as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, aimed to enlighten students about the government’s invaluable initiatives, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), and Nasha Mukht Bharat, which promote gender equality and combat substance abuse.

Under the guidance of DSWO Budgam, the DHEW played a pivotal role in raising awareness among attendees, igniting a spirit of action, and ensuring the resounding success of these programs.

Recognizing the transformative potential of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Nasha Mukht Bharat, the DHEW team tirelessly conveyed their message thereby fostering positive social change, and striving to build an equitable society free from substance abuse.

Distinguished speakers at this event illuminated various government initiatives that create an environment conducive to women exercising their choices, gaining control over their lives, and accessing opportunities. Bhaderwah , June 12 : Department of Geography, Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu organised a one day regional seminar on the theme “Climate Change and Ecosystem services in Himalayan Region” today at Lal Ded Auditorium Bhaderwah Campus.

The seminar focussed on highlighting the continuous process of climate change and how it has a massive impact on the Himalayan region which is vulnerable to the phenomenon of climate change. The Himalayan region is really getting negatively affected by changing climate and thus this seminar was of great importance and relevance.
The ADC Bhaderwah, Jenab Dil Mir Choudhary was the Chief Guest of the occasion , in his address he urged the students and the audience to act as responsible citizens and work together as the ambassadors in order to safeguard the environment from the threat of climate change.
Prof., Rahul Gupta, Rector, Bhaderwah Campus welcomed the Guests and deliberated upon different aspects of the campus and gave the details about the achievements of the campus.
 The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Milap Chand Sharma, JNU who talked about the various problems which are being faced in Himalayan region due to climate change. He further stressed various adaptation strategies which are required to reduce the climate change vulnerability.
Dr. Shashi Prabha, Jammu University deliberated about the geographical effects of climate change. Dr. Suresh Babu, JNU threw light on the sociological aspect of interaction between man and his environment.
Dr. Chhering Tundup, Head, Department of Geography, presented the theme of the conference to the audience. Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Head, IME expressed his views about the role of IME and discussed about the various initiatives the department is taking to spread awareness among the common masses about the mountain Ecosystems.
