SAMBA, OCTOBER 23:  Ecoclub (Green Warriors) and Department of Environmental Sciences of Government Degree College Vijaypur in collaboration with DISHA Volunteer Organisation under the guidance of the Principal of college, Dr. Vandana Gupta organized awareness cum cleanliness drive  on the banks of Suryaputri Tawi near Har-Ki-Pauri.

The program was organized by the convener of Ecoclub, Prof. Poonam Kundan (Head, Department of Environmental Sciences).

During the cleanliness drive she briefed the students about the above said activity and explained the various ways by which people can protect water bodies and how our little contribution can save our environment. Further the students were also briefed by Anil Sharma founder, DISHA Volunteer organisation about the importance of water bodies and said it is the responsibility of all the society members to participate and to aware people about the importance of environment.

Thirty Green Volunteers of the college actively participated in the cleanliness cum awareness drive at Har- Ki- Pauri where they were involved in different activities including sensitising the general public regarding ill effects of plastic and other waste materials in the water bodies. Volunteers were involved in the segregation process where they segregated different categories of the waste materials.

Students of the college also interacted with Rajat Salgotra (CEO Samast Eco- alternatives) where he briefed them regarding waste management and how we can manage floral waste and cow dung in the Jammu city.

Principal of the College, Dr. Vandana Gupta congratulated all the volunteers and organisers for organising the event for the students. The drive was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan and co-coordinated by Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal and Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo.


 KISHTWAR, OCTOBER 23: The District Headquarters Kishtwar witnessed an extraordinary display of unity and patriotism as the 'Amrit Kalash Yatra' culminated, celebrating the essence of 'Meri Maati Mera Desh.'

The event was marked by a series of significant moments that resonated deeply with the community under the close supervision of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav, here at Auditorium GDC Kishtwar.

Assistant Commissioner Development Kishtwar, Manoj Kumar in his address extended heartfelt welcome to all participants, shedding light on the remarkable events of the 'Meri Maati Mera Desh' program.

One of the pivotal moments of the day was the administration of the 'Panch Pran Pledge' by ACD Kishtwar.

The Amrit Kalash Yatra, originating from various Blocks and Municipalities within the District, culminated at the District headquarters, symbolizing the collective spirit of the region.

The most poignant moment of the day was the harmonious collection of 'Mitti' from various panchayats and Municipality wards of each block across the district, representing the unity and shared commitment of the people to their homeland.

The event was graced by the presence of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Dr. Devansh Yadav as chief guest and SSP Kishtwar Khalil Ahmed Poswal as guest of Honour.

ACR Kishtwar Varunjeet Singh Charak,Joint Director Planning Mohd Iqbal, GM DIC Mohammad Ashraf, DDC member Nagseni Faisal Khan, President Municipal Council Kishtwar Sajjad Ahmed Najjar, DPO Kishtwar Sunil Bhutyal, ExENs, CEO Kishtwar Prehlad Bhagat, CMO Kishtwar Dr. M.Y Mir, PRIs and large number of school students participated the event.

The festivities celebrated the rich cultural diversity of the region. The festivities included captivating cultural program that featured the enthusiastic participation of school-going children viz a viz Group Dance by Perfect Dance studio, Bal vidya Bhawan Kishtwar and  New Era Public High School, Patriotic song by  Nidhi Aryan, Patriotic Group song by HSS Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Kishtwar and Speech on Meri Maati Mera Desh by students of  Islamia Faridia Hr. SEC School Kishtwar, Deffodil Model Public  High School Kishtwar and SDM Public  Hr. Sec. School on Meri Matti Mera Desh. The vibrant performances by prominent personalities and poets from Kishtwar added a dynamic touch to the event, evoking the true essence of 'Meri Maati Mera Desh'.

A heartfelt tribute was paid to the bravehearts who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. Families of the martyrs were felicitated by DC and honored with certificate of Honour, a poignant reminder of their selfless service and unwavering dedication. Besides, the participants were awarded with trophies.

The DC commended the exceptional contribution of the people to the campaign, emphasizing the significance of the 'Maati’ collected from every corner of the district. He highlighted the sacred 'Maati’ soon embarking on a significant journey to Delhi, uniting with soil from every corner of the country, symbolizing our collective strength and heritage.

This celebration exemplified the unwavering love for the land and the indomitable spirit of the people of District Kishtwar, transcending boundaries and reinforcing the bond between 'Meri Maati and Mera Desh.'

 


JAMMU, OCTOBER 7: District Development Commissioner, Sachin Kumar Vaishya today presided over a meeting to assess skill development activities in the district.

The meeting, which included representatives from different departments, institutes and organisations involved in skill training, entrepreneurship development and other initiatives, aimed to align and focus their efforts for better implementation and public benefit.

The meeting set an ambitious target of providing approximately 12,500 skill development training opportunities.

The DDC assigned specific targets to each organisation, emphasising the importance of imparting skill training and self-employment opportunities to eligible youth and adults.

The participants included officers from the Rural Development Department, PM Mahila Shakti Kendra, Industries Department, Employment and Counselling Department, SBI, RSETI, Handlooms Department, JKEDI, KVIB, Government Polytechnic and Industrial Training Institute and others.

Addressing the assembly, the DDC underscored the vital role of rural and border populations in the district's development. He expressed a commitment to supporting these communities by facilitating outreach efforts, regardless of their geographical location.

A particular focus of the meeting was women empowerment. The DDC lauded the talent and progressiveness of women and stressed the need to provide them with equal opportunities to participate in the economy and secure dignified livelihoods.

Assistant Deputy Commissioner, Sandeep Seointra; Assistant Commissioner Development, Preeti Sharma, Lead District Manager SBI, the Principals of Government Polytechnic Colleges and Industrial Training Institutes besides others were part of the meeting.

 


UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 26: As a part of fortnightly activities under celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti other Cultural Committee in collaboration with Department of Music, Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur organised a skit on the theme Society and Truth at College Vatika, here today.

Principal of the host college, Prof. Anjali Mahajan was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Principal appreciated the efforts of the organisers for organizing the programme. She said that such events would provide a platform to budding students to channelize their talent in the right direction. She urged the committee and department to organize similar programmes in near future.

The skit was organized by Dr. Seema Sharma (Convenor Cultural Committee), Prof Shallu Jasrotia Department of Music and Prof. Yash Kumar, Department of Music. The event was coordinated by Dr. Kewal Kumar. 

On the occasion, about 150 students of the college witnessed the skit which was highly applauded by the audiences 

Among others, Prof. Sarika Mahajan, Prof. Jugal Kishore, Dr. Tania Akhter, Dr. Sushma Choudhary, Prof. Shama Rani, Dr. Sanjay Kumar and other faculty members were present on the occasion.

JAMMU, AUGUST 20: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha launched the Green Jammu & Kashmir Drive 2023-24 from IIM Jammu, today.

The Lt Governor planted a tree sapling in the Campus to mark the occasion.

In his address, the Lt Governor congratulated the Forests Department, IIM Jammu, Village Panchayat Plantation Committees and all the stakeholders for the launch of the mega plantation drive.


“Green J&K Drive has become a major contributor to increasing the green cover of J&K, strengthening our ecology and building a healthier society.  In the last 3 years, we have been able to plant more than 4 crore saplings and the target for this year is to plant 1.75 crore plants to ensure ecological security,” the Lt Governor said.

The Lt Governor highlighted the need to protect, preserve and restore ecology and biodiversity for sustainable living.

J&K has one of the most diverse forest areas in the country with 55% forest and green cover. It is in the interest of environment and our future generations to synergise development with the natural resources for sustainable development, he added.


There is a saying that God forgives always, men forgive sometimes but nature never forgives. It is high time we realize that our rights over natural resources are temporary. We have to respect and restore the delicate balance between economic development and conservation of forests and environment, he said.

At IIM Jammu, the Lt Governor shared the key initiatives of the UT Administration aimed at ecological conservation and protection of natural resources.


“Sustainable Development and Environment Conservation is our priority. Protection of natural resources is in the DNA of our society, our culture. With the whole of government and whole of society approach, we are making honest efforts to address the challenges of climate change,” the Lt Governor said.

17 Nagar Vans are being established near cities and towns. It will enhance the green cover in Urban and Peri-Urban Areas to provide clean and healthy environment to the dwellers of Urban Centres. It is also being ensured that the city forests are established in all urban local bodies, he added.


The Lt Governor said the environmental protection awareness campaigns have generated a sense of responsibility among the people and there is a growing realization that the nature is the only lifeline for human existence.

Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor called upon the Premier Education Institutions of J&K to take the lead in environmental protection campaigns.

The next five years will be crucial. Campus of our premier educational institutions should be transformed into Green Campus. We need the cooperation and support of all the elected representatives, youth and the people of J&K, the Lt Governor said.


The Lt Governor commended the endeavour of IIM Jammu for planting 10,000 trees around the campus and made valuable suggestions to IIM Jammu to make the campus environment friendly.

He advised the IIM Jammu to install solar power to reduce the carbon footprint, bio-digester and plantation of medicinal plants in the campus and run similar campaigns in nearby villages with the help of students. 

He further suggested for constitution of Green Campus Committee, having Annual Green Campus Plan and setting up a Biodiversity Park in the campus.

The Lt Governor called upon the students to work with Gram Panchayat, organizations, urban local bodies which will improve the quality and quantity of natural resources and provide economic benefits to the local people.

The Lt Governor directed the Higher Education Department to come out with the green ranking of higher educational institutions of Union Territory.

On the occasion, the Lt Governor handed over cheques from Village Funds to members of Village Panchayat Plantation Committees. He impressed on the Sarpanches for utilizing the funds for public welfare and re-invest the amount in planting more trees.

He launched the multilingual theme song of Green J&K Drive and Har Gaon Haryali and also released publications on Slope Stabilization, Green Slopes for Stable roads and Jan- Bhagidari-II and a short documentary on Van Sanrakshan.

Interacting with the media persons on the sidelines of the event, the Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the UT Administration to dismantle the terror ecosystem.

“We are following the policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and the J&K Administration is determined and committed to take stringent action against those associated with the terror ecosystem or facilitating terrorist, secessionist activities,” the Lt Governor said.

Speaking on the issue of Sarore Toll Plaza, the Lt Governor said that the concern of the people is genuine. I have discussed the issue with the Chairman NHAI and the matter will be resolved in the coming days, he added.

KATHUA, AUGUST 20: A Mega Plantation Drive was conducted by Kathua Forest Division in collaboration with Government Degree College Kathua inside the premises of the College Girls Hostel today.

The event was organised under the banner of ‘Green Jammu & Kashmir’ envisaging Mega Plantation Drive at 1000 locations through out the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. The mega  drive was formally inaugurated by LG UT of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha at IIM Jammu by planting a Chinar tree.

The Plantation drive at Girls Hostel of GDC Kathua was inaugurated by Municipal Councillor Ward 20 Ravinder Singh Pathania. He was accompanied by Municipal Councillor Ward 01, Miran Devi,  Convenor of Hostel committee, Dr. Kiran Bala, Hostel Warden, Dr. Nitu Singh, Range Forest Officer Narinder Kumar Verma.

The drive was conducted under the supervision of DFO Kathua Khalid Amin Mehta and the College Principal, Professor Seema Mir.

About 40 staff members of Kathua Forest Division, more than 150 students of girls hostel and NCC Cadets took part in drive.
