 KISHTWAR, APRIL 11: In an initiative to uplift the artisan and weaver community, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Pawan Kotwal, along with AD Handicrafts Pardeep Shan, distributed registration certificates among newly formed Industrial Handicrafts and Handloom Cooperative Societies under the Financial Support Scheme of the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom.

Two societies were formally recognized during the event including Kuntwara Wheat Straw Handicrafts INDUSCO Ltd, Akarhang Kuntwara and Snow Valley Cutting Tailoring Handloom INDUSCO Ltd, Passerkot Chattroo.

These societies have been registered under the aegis of the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu, as part of the department's initiative to foster cooperative-based micro-enterprises under the Self-Reliant Act, 1999.

Under this scheme, 11 registered Artisans/Weavers can formulate a society and receive financial assistance of Rs. 1.00 lakh in two equal, non-refundable installments. In addition to financial aid, the scheme also offers marketing support to boost sales and visibility for local crafts.

The objective of this initiative is to promote self-reliance among artisans and weavers by enabling them to function collectively on a single platform and operate as small-scale enterprises.

The event was attended by Supervisor INDUSCO, Abid and other concerned staff.

 

SDM Paddar discusses preparatory plan with Business Community

KISHTWAR, APRIL 10: In line with the directions of Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Padder Dr. Amit Kuma on Thursday convened a crucial meeting with hoteliers, paying guest operators, dhaba and restaurant operators and other business stakeholders to review preparedness for the upcoming Shree Machail Mata Yatra 2025.

Speaking at the meeting, the SDM Paddar emphasised the need for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all accommodations and food establishments.

The Business owners were directed to ensure clean bedsheets, blankets, and bathrooms for visiting pilgrims. The SDM informed attendees that dedicated sanitation teams would conduct regular inspections to monitor and maintain hygiene standards in and around lodging facilities throughout the Yatra period.

Furthermore, owners of dhabas, restaurants, and retail shops were instructed to strictly adhere to approved rate lists for all items, which must be prominently displayed for customer transparency. The importance of offering courteous service, maintaining proper sanitation, and extending warm hospitality to the devotees was highlighted as key to ensuring a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience for all pilgrims.

The SDM reiterated that the collective efforts of the local business community will play a vital role in the success of the Shree Machail Mata Yatra 2025 and urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the administration in making the Yatra a safe, clean, and memorable journey for all participants.

 


KISHTWAR, APRIL 07: The District Youth Services and Sports Department today organized a series of intramural sports competitions and anti-drug awareness rallies across various educational institutions and zones of the district here under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

In a spirited initiative to promote physical fitness and encourage sporting talent among youth, intramural competitions were conducted in the disciplines of Table Tennis, Yoga, Kho-Kho, Chess, and Carrom (Boys & Girls) under the leadership of District Youth Services & Sports Officer  Jaffer Haider Sheikh.

The events were held at GHSS Dool – Zone Nagseni, GHS Balgran – Zone Drabshalla, GHS Basmina – Zone Warwan, GMS Indra Nagar, and GMS Berwar.

These competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation and showcased the dedication of young athletes from across the district.

In a parallel effort to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, the DYSS also organized impactful rallies as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan under the theme "No to Drugs, Yes to Life."

The awareness drives were held at GHSS Sounder, GHSS Chattroo, GMS Sigdi, Pyt Laie and UPS Girls Razna Palmar.

Over 400 students, including 250 boys and 150 girls participated, carrying banners, raising slogans, and spreading messages of a drug-free and healthy lifestyle. The enthusiastic involvement of students, teachers, and local communities made the event a great success.

Meanwhile, for smooth implementation of the Sports Activity Calendar, DYSSO Jaffer Haider Sheikh chaired a meeting with all field officials, including Physical Education Masters (PEMs), Physical Education Teachers (PETs), Rehbar-e-Khel (REKs), and Sports Teachers. The meeting focused on strategic planning and monitoring of scheduled events for the current session, aiming to enhance participation and sports development at the grassroots level.


 KISHTWAR, APRIL 03: In a significant move to bolster welfare services for the elderly, Deputy Commissioner (DC)   Rajesh Kumar Shavan today inaugurated the Senior Citizens Club/Old Age Care Home here in the heart of Kishtwar town.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed a large gathering of Prominent and Senior citizens of the District, who expressed their heartfelt appreciation for this thoughtful initiative. The event was marked by warmth, gratitude, and a strong sense of community.

The DC highlighted the importance of such facilities in ensuring the well-being and dignity of the elderly. He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of senior citizens to society and emphasized the administration’s commitment to their welfare.

The gathering lauded this initiative, describing it as a “gift to the senior citizens” by the DC, designed to provide them with a comfortable and supportive environment.

The newly inaugurated facility is equipped with modern amenities, including sports facilities, medical care services, and homestay accommodations, all aimed at promoting a healthy, active, and fulfilling lifestyle for senior citizens.

The DC urged the community to actively participate in making this initiative a success, fostering a spirit of inclusivity and support for the elderly.

 KISHTWAR, MARCH 21: The Department of Youth Services & Sports, in collaboration with Department of Social Welfare, organized a series of sports activities under the aegis of "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" and "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.”

The sports events featured Tennis Ball Cricket match(s), Volleyball competitions, Tug of War and Rope Skipping. The primary objective of the program was to encourage girls to participate in sports while raising awareness about their education and empowerment.

 Simultaneously, the activities for boys promoted a drug-free lifestyle, reinforcing the government's mission towards a healthier and addiction free society.

A large number of boys and girls from different schools participated with great enthusiasm and sports spirit.

Participants showcased their athletic abilities while also learning valuable lessons about teamwork, leadership and perseverance.

The initiative aimed to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle while reinforcing social messages of girls' education and drug-free living. The event not only promoted physical fitness but also fostered a sense of community and unity among the participants.


 KISHTWAR, MARCH 16: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajesh Kumar Shavan today inspected the proposed private building for temporary accommodation of KV School at Dedpeth. The DC took stock of the ongoing work on the private building, ensuring that all necessary requirements were met for running the school. The inspection was part of the preparations for starting classes for the upcoming April session.

The DC issued necessary directions to proceed at a faster pace to ensure the classes start well in time.

The DC also visited Mughal Maidan, a far off area of the district, where he interacted with local residents. A delegation from Dedpeth approached the DC to project the demand for improving drainage in the area. The DC assured the delegation that their concerns would be addressed promptly.

Furthermore, a delegation from Panchayat Rahalthal met with the DC to discuss issues related to MGNREGA attendance. The DC emphasized that payments under MGNREGA would be made only to those who are actively working, underlining the importance of accountability and transparency in the implementation of the scheme.

The DC also inspected the under construction Bridge near the hatchery fish project in Mughal Maidan, being developed under the  Capex plan by RDD.

SDM Chatroo Nayeem Ur Rehman, ACD Phulail Singh, Tehsildar Mughal Maidan Parvez Ahmed and other senior officers were present during the visit.


 KISHTWAR, FEBRUARY 21: The District Administration of Kishtwar organized a specialized interactive session on Advanced Preparedness for Natural, Contemporary, and Anthropogenic Disasters here in the Conference Hall, New DC Office Complex.

The event, organised in line with the directions issued by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, was attended by district heads and officials from stakeholder departments.

The session, aimed at strengthening disaster resilience and response mechanisms. The resource person was  Prof. (Dr.) Ravi Jyee, Vice President (In Proto Vice Chancellor of the International University School of Medicine - IUSOM) and Chairman of the Afro-Eurasian Chamber of Commerce, Education Development, and Employment (ACCEDE).

Prof. Ravi Jyee, a distinguished expert in disaster management, shared valuable insights on proactive preparedness, risk mitigation strategies, and effective response frameworks.

The event provided an engaging platform for attendees to discuss contemporary disaster management challenges and explore solutions for enhancing coordination among stakeholders.

Various officers put their queries to clear the doubts which were replied by experts.

Pertinent to mention that the district falls under a seismic zone V and also faces the challenges of slides, accidents and snow storms. Sometimes the cases of fire incidents have been witnessed on a large scale.

The session was highly productive and focused on brainstorming innovative ideas.  The District Administration emphasized its commitment to fostering community awareness and preparedness to minimize the impact of disasters.

This interactive session marks a significant step in reinforcing disaster response capabilities, ensuring a safer and more resilient community.

KISHTWAR, FEBRUARY 21: District Administration Kishtwar, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan, on Friday organized the Snow Mela at the historic Chowgan Ground to spread awareness about the government schemes like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Mission Yuva, Road Safety, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, while also promoting tourism and local culture, the.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from thousands of citizens, artists, and dignitaries. The grand celebration commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by senior government functionaries, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

The government departments set up informative stalls showcasing their schemes, products, and initiatives.

The Deputy Commissioner inspected the stalls and emphasized the importance of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes in accelerating the Socio-economic development in the district. He highlighted the administration’s efforts towards public welfare, youth empowerment, and educational development.

The cultural segment of the event featured captivating performances by renowned local singers, including Nidhi Aryan (Kishtwar Idol Winner, Junior Category), Zulkar Nain (Kishtwar Idol Runner-Up, Senior Category), Shriya Sharma (Runner-Up, Junior Category),Burhan Sheikh, Shafkat Rasool, Ali, Farhan, Muein Raja, Arohi Rana.

Comedian and dancer Azil Farooq entertained the audience with his lively performance, adding a touch of humor and excitement. A mesmerizing group dance by Kishtwar Act Production further enriched the event’s festive ambiance.

In recognition of their exceptional performances, the talented participants were felicitated by the District Administration. Winners of Kishtwar Idol Season 2 were also honored In Junior Category (Top 3) Nidhi Aryan (1st),Shriya Sharma (2nd),Sushant Aryan (3rd) and in Senior Category (Top 3) Suraj Aryan (1st),Zulkar Nain (2nd) and Rohan Bhandari (3rd).

 KISHTWAR, FEBRUARY 19: To encourage youth participation in sports, the Department of Youth Services & Sports organized a Volleyball Tournament at Eidgah Mughal Maidan, Zone Inderwal under the aegis of Sansad Khel Spardha 2025.

The tournament was held under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan and the guidance of DYSSO Jaffer Haider Sheikh and supervision of ZPEO Inderwal, witnessing enthusiastic participation from young athletes and sports lovers.

All officials from the department were present at the venue ensuring smooth conduct and fair play throughout the event.

The event not only provided a platform to the emerging players to showcase their skills but also reinforced the importance of sports in building teamwork, discipline and a healthy lifestyle.


 DC inspects proposed Project site

KISHTWAR, FEBRUARY 17: Deputy Commissioner (DC) R.K Shavan today inspected the proposed site for construction of an Automatic Puzzle-Type Multi-Storey Parking facility in the Kishtwar Town. The project aims at decongesting traffic in the main city.

The proposed project, envisaging a 08 Storey automated parking facility with parking capacity of 240 Vehicles, is expected to significantly ease vehicular congestion and improve urban mobility.

During the site visit near Bun Astan, the DC issued necessary directions to the Mechanical and Hospital Division Kishtwar for the framing and submission of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) at the earliest.

Tehsildar Nirbhay Sharma, AEE Mechanical Umar Mushtaq, revenue officials and others were present during the visit.


 KISHTWAR, FEBRUARY 11: The Department of AYUSH observed World Unani Day 2025 in Kishtwar District great enthusiasm and community participation by organising an impressive awareness event.

 This day is observed annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of the eminent Unani physician, educator, and freedom fighter Hakim Ajmal Khan and to honor India's ancient healthcare traditions.

The event was organised under the directions and guidance of the Director of AYUSH J&K, Dr. Nuzhat Bashir and Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan.

  Additional Deputy Commissioner  Pawan Kotwal was the Chief Guest.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Vikram Singh Jamwal, Nodal Officer AYUSH.

In his address, the Additional Deputy Commissioner emphasised the role of Unani medicine in modern healthcare and encouraged participants to incorporate Unani principles into their daily lives. He highlighted the significance of Unani as an ancient science introduced to India centuries ago, which has now gained global recognition. He also stressed the importance of disease prevention through Unani, which focuses on addressing root causes and promoting a holistic approach to health and well-being.

The District Nodal Officer AYUSH elaborated on the contribution of AYUSH staff in promoting preventive healthcare, particularly in strengthening immunity and managing lifestyle diseases within the community.  

The celebration aimed to raise awareness about Unani’s holistic health benefits and foster a deeper understanding of preventive healthcare rooted in this traditional system.

The event featured insightful lectures on Unani medicine, including a presentation by Dr. Shabir Ahmad Bhat and other experts.

The Department of AYUSH expressed gratitude for the community's participation and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Unani medicine across the region.


 Kishtwar, 11-02-2025, The Department of AYUSH celebrated the World Unani Day 2025 in the Kishtwar District with great enthusiasm and community involvement. The event is celebrated every year as the birth anniversary of eminent Unani physician, educator, and freedom fighter Hakim Ajmal Khan and honors the traditional practices of India’s ancient health system.

 

The whole event was organised under the directions and guidance of worthy Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Sh Rajesh Kumar Shavan. The event began with a welcoming of the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Mr. Pawan Kumar Kotwal (the Chief Guest of the occasion), by Dr. Vikram Singh Jamwal , Nodal Officer of AYUSH Kishtwar.

 

Other dignitaries present in the occasion were ACR Kishtwar, DYSSO Kishtwar, DSEO, Ex En Jal Shakti, Ex En PWD (R&B), BMO Kishtwar, CDPO and others.

The District Nodal Officer Ayush Kishtwar  further elaborated on the contribution of Ayush staff in spreading Ayush System medicare for the preventive health, particularly in building immunity and managing lifestyle diseases among the community . He urged the community to adopt these practices for a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

 

The celebration aimed to raise awareness about Unani’s holistic health benefits and foster a deeper understanding of preventive healthcare methods rooted in this traditional system.  The event included insightful lectures on Unani by Dr. Shabir Ahmad Bhat and others. The Department of AYUSH expressed gratitude for the community's participation and pledged to continue promoting Unani across the region.

 

The program concluded with the presentation of mementos and certificates. Dr. Joneed Iqbal  delivered the vote of thanks at the end on the occasion. This celebration in Kishtwar is part of a  nationwide effort to revive and mainstream Unani as a sustainable approach to healthcare.


 KISHTWAR, JANUARY 24: The District Administration Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, celebrated National Girl Child Day by organising a series of engaging activities aimed at empowering young girls and raising awareness about their rights.

The event featured motivational lectures on the theme "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao," encouraging the protection and education of girls. Scintillating cultural performances, including solo and group dance   besides musical acts by girl students representing different educational institutions added to the grandeur of the Event. The event also showcased singing and dance performances by the girls of "PARISHA" Home for Girls.

A remarkable skit, presented by Kishtwar Act Production, highlighted the importance of girls’ education and their empowerment.

Adding to the celebration, Nidhi Aryan, winner of Kishtwar Idol Season 2, captivated the audience with her performance, leaving a lasting impression. A special segment of the event featured inspiring stories from girl entrepreneurs who have achieved remarkable success in their respective fields.

Among them were Ruhana Sheikh, a talented calligrapher; Mehwish Tak, a skilled makeup artist; Azma Bhat, a home baker and cloud kitchen entrepreneur; and Sudarshana Devi, a successful mushroom cultivation entrepreneur.

  Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan underscored the government initiatives to promote the empowerment of women and girls, including establishment of the Women Empowerment Cell, the Mission Yuva Scheme Registration, and facilitating loan opportunities for girl entrepreneurs.

He emphasized the administration’s commitment to the uplift of the girl child and women’s rights, as well as the need for stricter actions against domestic violence and the role of women in combating the growing drug menace.

District Social Welfare Officer Zubair Ahmed, also spoke about the significance of providing education to the girl child and supporting their career aspirations across various fields.

Samridhi Sen, International Gold Medalist Singer from Kishtwar, was also present and added to the event’s vibrancy.

The Deputy Commissioner, along with other dignitaries, felicitated women achievers, including ALC Mamta Sudershan, Samridhi Sen, Sapna Thakur (Media) and other participants.

The winners of the painting competition, which was held to commemorate the day, were also honored at the event.

All the dignitaries also participated in the signature campaign on the Dream Wall established by the SWD.

KISHTWAR, JANUARY 20: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kishtwar, Pawan Kotwal chaired a meeting today with line departments and other stakeholders in the Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex to finalize arrangements for the upcoming Republic Day 2025 celebrations.

During the meeting, it was confirmed that the main event would take place at Chowgan Kishtwar/Mini Secretariat DC Office Complex, depending on weather conditions, while local celebrations would be organized at the Sub-Division, Block and Tehsil levels.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner instructed district department heads to ensure their attendance, along with their staff, at Republic Day functions at both the district headquarters and at the SDM, Tehsil, and Block levels.

Discussions covered various aspects of the celebration, including flag hoisting, the march-past, cultural programs, seating arrangements, stage setup, venue preparation, and catering for refreshments.

It was also informed that the day would begin with the playing of Shehnai Vadan and special directions were given to concerned officers for Shehnai Vadan.

The Police Authorities were instructed to implement stringent security measures to ensure safety and smooth conduct of the event.

Further, the concerned departments were directed to make provisions for drinking water, power supply, medical facilities, sanitation, transport, and traffic management, illumination of government buildings, deployment of fire tenders, seating arrangements, and the distribution of invitations.

The ADC also reviewed the progress of the various committees formed to oversee the arrangements.

Senior officers from civil and police administrations, along with other stakeholders, contributed valuable suggestions to ensure the successful execution of Republic Day celebrations in the district.

 KISHTWAR, DECEMBER 25: A seven-day refresher course organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports for Physical Education Teachers concluded here today.

Organized under the guidance of the Director General of Youth Services & Sports J&K, Rajinder Singh Tara, and supervised by DYSSO Jaffer Haider Sheikh, the program was specifically designed for PEMs, PETs, REKs and Groundsmen.

 The training sessions, held at Chowgan/TRC Kishtwar, aimed to equip participants with modern methodologies, techniques and best practices in physical education and sports management. The initiative highlights the department's efforts towards fostering innovation and excellence in sports while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among the youth of the region.

During the seven-day course, participants were engaged in varied activities, including workshops, practical demonstrations, and interactive discussions led by subject-matter experts. Topics covered ranged from modern sports techniques, event management and physical fitness assessments to the integration of technology in sports education.

 The valedictory ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan; Additional Deputy Commissioner Pawan Kotwal and Chief Education Officer Javeed Ahmed Kichloo.  

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of continued skill development and training programs for educators and sports personnel.

He noted that such refresher courses are pivotal in enhancing knowledge and expertise, ultimately benefiting students and youth across the district.

DYSSO Jaffer Haider Sheikh expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and praised his team’s efforts in ensuring the program's success. He reaffirmed the department's commitment to organizing similar initiatives in the future to further develop the skills of physical education and sports professionals.


 KISHTWAR, DECEMBER 25: A district-level event was organized at the District Administration Complex, Mini Secretariat Kishtwar, to celebrate the inauguration of 10,000 new M-PACS, Dairy and Fishery Cooperative Societies across the nation.

The event was aligned with the mega event held at ICAR, Pusa Road, New Delhi, which was graced by the Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, Amit Shah.

Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan was the Chief Guest of the district-level event. The program was organized by the Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies (Agri.) Mirza Mumtaz Iqbal.

The event witnessed participation from Dairy and Fishery Cooperative Societies newly registered in the district. All participants connected virtually to the mega event held in New Delhi.

The Deputy Commissioner distributed registration certificates to the newly established Dairy Cooperatives and commended the contributions made by Cooperatives to the economy.

The event was also attended by the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Kishtwar, representatives from CMS, PACS and officials from the Department of Cooperatives.


KISHTWAR, DECEMBER 16: The District Level Task Force Committee (DLTFC) today approved 20 loan proposals under the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Employment Generation Programme (JKREGP) to support local entrepreneurs.

The approval was granted at a meeting chaired by District Development Commissioner (DDC)   Rajesh Kumar Shavan. The Scheme is being implemented by the J&K Khadi & Village Industries Board.

The Committee meticulously reviewed and scrutinized applications for seeking grant of loan for businesses, including provisional store, commercial vehicles and other business units, ultimately approving 20 cases.

The total amount approved is around Rs 1.00 crore, with a subsidy provision of Rs 35 lakh to be provided to the beneficiaries.

The establishment of these units is expected to generate new employment opportunities, contributing significantly to the economic growth of the district.

The meeting was attended by GM DIC (Phulail Singh; LDM Harsh Rawal and representatives from RSETI, JKEDI, Polytechnic, JK Bank Cluster Office as well as delegates from ITI and other stakeholders.


POONCH, DECEMBER 16: District Development Commissioner Poonch Vikas Kundal today reviewed the physical and financial progress under Agriculture production and farmers welfare schemes (UT and Centrally Sponsored Schemes) in the district here at a meeting held in the Meeting Hall of DC Office Complex.

At the outset, the DDC took a detailed review of establishment, working of Kisan Khadmit Ghars (KKGs), enrollment of farmers for DAKSH Kisan services, benefits extended under Holistic Agriculture Development Plan (HADP), coverage under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), JK Comprehensive Agriculture and Allied Implementation Project (JKCIP) and establishment of FPOs under Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), among others.

The Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) provided a detailed report on the achievement and advancements of these schemes including enhancing farmers’ income with diversification and new initiatives.

The DDC highlighted that young educated farmers must be motivated and guided to come forward and adopt agriculture and allied activities as income generating ventures. He also discussed the preparedness for the opening of Kisan Khidimat Ghars (KKGs) in the district. He said that KKG is a one stop facility for farmers to connect with everything related to agriculture and allied sectors. “This initiative will provide employment opportunities to youth and easy online access to government schemes” he added.

Highlighting the importance of increasing farmers’ participation, the DDC directed all officers to adopt a proactive approach, surpassing predefined targets to enroll as many farmers as possible. On the occasion, the DDC said that the government is committed to uplift the Agriculture and farmers welfare sector which generates livelihood opportunities for unemployed educated youth in Poonch district.

The meeting was attended by Chief Agriculture Officer Poonch, District agriculture officer (Extension) Area development Officer (Veg) Poonch, Assistant soil Conservation Officer, Assistant Soil Chemist, All Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer, All Agriculture Extension Officers and other concerned.
