SRINAGAR: The 13th District Srinagar Taekwondo Championship was held from August 20-21, 2023, at the Indoor Hall, Polo Ground, Srinagar. The championship was organized by the Taekwondo Association of District Srinagar under the auspices of the J&K Taekwondo Association (Regd), with support from the J&K Sports Council (JKSC).

The closing ceremony was addressed by Muzaffar Hussain Wani (JKAS), Divisional Sports Officer (k), as Chief Guest, along with Shri Rouf Ahmed Bhat (Sports Promoter and Under Secretary to the Govt. Forest Department). He congratulated all the medalists and participants for taking part in the championships and also applauded the J&K Taekwondo Association for uplifting the Taekwondo sport in the UT.

The championship was headed by Shri Nissar Hussain, Vice President, JKTA, and Junaid Mayer Qasba, Secretary, Taekwondo Association of District Srinagar. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Nishant Singh Jamwal (AAO) JK Sports Council, Goutam Shukla, JKSC, Chander Shekhar (handball coach), Mohd Amin, manager (polo ground); DR. Akbar Khan, member (JKSC). Tariq Lone (Aaj Tak).


The District Taekwondo Association felicitated Mr. Sultan (a para athlete), who was selected for the forthcoming World Para Taekwondo Championship, and Ms. Sadia Tariq, a renowned international Wushu player and former Taekwondo athlete.

The Technical Team, which made fair play decisions throughout the championship, was led by Master Atul Pangotra (International Referee, WT). The referee panel also included Rohit Sharma, Suhail Khan, Shah Faiq, Musadiq, Faizan Ahmad, Tanveer, Adeeba, Aqib Gulzar, Suhail Ahmed, and Anees Bhat.


All the medalists of the 13th District Srinagar Taekwondo Championship will represent District Srinagar in the forthcoming 26th J&K UT Taekwondo Championships in 2023.

The cadets and sub-Junior athletes in both male and female categories demonstrated prowess of combative skills on the inaugural day. More than 150 players competed in different weight categories from various affiliated schools and clubs of Srinagar district.

The Under Secretary Forest Department and sports promoter, Rouf Ahmed Bhat presided over the function as the chief guest. While speaking on the occasion, Rouf Bhat congratulated all the participants for taking part in the said championship and applauded the role of J&K Sports Council and J&K Taekwondo Association in uplifting the Taekwondo sport in the UT.

Others present on the occasion included Nissar Hussain Vice President and Secretary, Taekwondo Association district unit Srinagar.
