Nightclub Hostage Crisis in the Netherlands

In a recent incident at the Petticoat Night Club in Adde City, a man took several people hostage. While the exact number of hostages and the duration of the crisis have not been disclosed, the situation has since been resolved peacefully. The city is located approximately 85 kilometers from Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands.

Upon receiving information about the hostage situation, the police swiftly took action and surrounded the nightclub. It is important to note that authorities have confirmed that this incident is not related to terrorism. The suspect, a Dutch citizen, was found to be in possession of knives and other weapons. Weapons and explosives were also discovered in his possession.

After several hours, three hostages were successfully freed and emerged from the club unharmed. Another hostage followed suit, and eventually, the suspect surrendered to the police without any resistance. As a precautionary measure, the police evacuated 150 nearby houses and deployed a heavy police presence around the club. Local media reported the presence of remote-control robots, anti-explosive units, and police personnel wearing protective gear at the scene.

Throughout the investigation, the police have emphasized that there is no indication of a terrorist motive. The suspect is currently in custody, and a thorough investigation is underway. The police have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with any ongoing inquiries.

As the situation unfolded, local train services to and from Ede City were temporarily canceled, and people were advised to seek safe locations. The authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the community and will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses.

SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 25: The Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri Monday convened a meeting to take holistic review of winter preparedness of all the departments in Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Baramulla, Anantnag, Bandipora, Budgam and Shopian, Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Director Health Services Kashmir, Chief Engineer Mech and Hosp Engineering, Chief Engineers of R&B North and South Kashmir, C.E IOCL North, besides representatives of other DCs, KPDCL and PHE etc.

The chair reviewed department wise preparedness for winters to ensure smooth supply of essentials viz. ration, water, electricity, and medical care, besides timely road clearance to ensure smooth movement of vehicles etc.

Taking stock of supply position of essentials in snow bound areas that remain cut-off during winters; the Director FCS&CA informed the meeting that there is no dearth of fuel in Kashmir and they have maintained sufficient stocks of it in snow bound areas, besides they have also made 100% stocks of ration at such places.

Officer from KPDCL informed the chair that the department is maintaining the curtailment programme while there are no distress cuts since additional 200 MWs of power. He further informed that they are providing round the clock power supply to 22 Feeders where both smart metering and cabling has been done, and in addition they are extending the facility to more 8 to 10 Feeders.

In case of replacement of Damaged Distribution Transformers (DDTs), the Officer informed that in urban areas they are placing the DDTs within 48 hrs while in rural areas the exercise is completed within 1-2 days.

The Div Com directed the KPDCL authorities to ensure damaged DTs are replaced within timeframe as per the directions of Lt. Governor and common masses do not have to face any difficulty.

He also directed to keep man and material ready to meet any exigency in case of heavy snowfall besides take stringent action against hooking.

The Director Health Services briefed the chair regarding deployment of 15 numbers of 4*4 vehicles in far-flung areas. He also assured that there is sufficient availability of Doctors and Medicines in Kashmir Hospitals especially those that remain cut-off during winters.

The Div Com directed the Health Services Authorities to ensure night staff remains available in hospitals to cater emergency cases. Besides, he also directed him to conduct inspections to ensure availability of doctors and other paramedical staff in hospitals.

Upgrading its number of machines from 252 in last year to 282 machines this year to undertake snow clearance, the Chief Engineer Mech and Hosp Engineering informed that in addition to increasing the number of machinery they have established 11 units across Kashmir to ensure timely snow clearance on roads.

He further informed that they have also dumped fuel in Gurez and other snow bound areas to meet the demand and therefore are ready to meet any exigency.

Regarding road clearance measures in South Kashmir, the Chief Engineer R&B South informed the meeting they have made 350 machines available to cater road clearance besides man and material stands in place to meet any eventuality.

He further informed that they have tendered all 139 stages which also remain allotted.

The Chief Engineer R&B North informed the meeting that 126 stages have been tendered while 114 have been allotted so far, the remaining 12 stages shall be allotted shortly.

Officer from PHE also informed the meeting that they have all their schemes running properly supplying water smoothly to all the areas.

JAMMU, DECEMBER 25: During a special enforcement drive carried out by the State Taxes Department, Additional Commissioner State Taxes Adm. & Enforcement Jammu, Namrita Dogra conducted a surprise inspection of the Nakas laid by the teams of DC Enforcement Central, Jammu.

During her visit, Namrita Dogra appreciated the efforts of the team led by STO, Dr Sonika Sudan working under the close supervision and guidance of DC Enforcement Central, Ritu Mahajan.

Enforcement central Jammu has recovered a penalty of Rs 2.01 crore from April 2023 to Dec. 2023 on GST defaulters for not carrying proper documents like GST invoices and E -way Bills.

 During the Enforcement drives by the Enforcement (Central), Jammu apart from the   penalty of Rs 2.01crores which is 53% increase as compared to last fiscal year, a total of 368 vehicles were detained and around 103108 E –Way bills were verified.

The major commodities on which penalties were imposed during this period includes Marble/Granite, Metal Scrap, TMT bars & Electronic goods etc.

Deputy Commissioner Enforcement (Central) Jammu under the instructions of Commissioner State Taxes Rashmi Singh constituted different teams headed by State Tax Officers namely Sonika Sudan, Chander Mohini, Romi Jamwal, Naresh Koul, Surinder Gupta & Sunil Gupta.

VARANASI, DECEMBER 24: Lt Governor Shri Manoj Sinha addressed the commemorative event at Jagatpur, Varanasi, today. He paid tributes to Babu Shivnath Singh Ji, freedom fighter, social reformer, well-known educationist and founder of Jagatpur Post Graduate College.

Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor said Babu Shivnath Singh Ji played a historic role in Champaran Satyagraha.

Babu Shivnath Singh Ji promoted the idea of universal access to education and established a senior secondary school in 1945 to bring the quality education within the reach of all sections of society, he said.

The Lt Governor said, our forefathers like Babu Shivnath Singh were committed to the promotion and all-round development of the nation and the institutions founded by them are actively engaged in this task.

The sacrifice of our freedom fighters and their vision continues to be a great source of strength for the nation. The youth must follow their ideals and values to put the country on the path of Viksit Bharat,” the Lt Governor said.

Terming education and knowledge as a prerequisite for complete socio-economic equality, the Lt Governor said education is the only tool to transform a society.

Under the guidance of Hon’ble PM Sh Narendra Modi Ji, India is making impressive strides in new areas of knowledge connectivity. The entire nation is today working with one objective to make India self-reliant and a developed country by 2047, the Lt Governor said.

The Lt Governor shared the transformational journey in School and Higher Education in Jammu Kashmir. He also highlighted the College on Wheels initiative launched recently to provide the students an opportunity to learn beyond the walls of classrooms.

In his address, the Lt Governor also gave his suggestions on incorporating students feedback in the education system, organizing innovation competitions and to focus on inter-disciplinary education.

On the occasion, the Lt Governor also inaugurated the BBA and BFA blocks of the Jagatpur PG College. A publication, ‘Smruti Granth’ was also released.

REASI, DECEMBER 24: The vibrant Christian community of Reasi organised a get-together on the upcoming merry Christmas at Sangyog Ghar Reasi.

The event was graced by District Development Commissioner, Vishesh Mahajan, who presided as the chief guest

TAMILNADU: A total of 42 bells, weighing a combined 1,200 KGs, have been dispatched from Tamilnadu to Ayodhya for the construction of the Ram Mandir. These bells were manufactured in Namakkal district and were sent after special pujas were performed.

The proprietor of Andal Moulding Works, R. Rajendran, shared that they usually charge Rs 1200 for making one bell. However, for the construction of the Ram Temple, they decided to reduce the labor charge to just Rs 600 per bell.

The dispatch of these bells holds significant importance as they will be used in the construction of the grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The bells, with their distinct sound, will add to the spiritual ambiance of the temple once it is completed.

The manufacturing of these bells in Namakkal district showcases the craftsmanship and dedication of the artisans involved. The bells are expected to enrich the religious experience for devotees who will visit the temple.

This initiative to contribute to the construction of the Ram Mandir reflects the devotion and unity of people from different parts of the country. It is a testament to the reverence and love for Lord Ram that is deeply ingrained in the hearts of millions of Indians.

JAMMU, DECEMBER 24: As part of the ongoing Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, the Special IEC Van today made its impactful presence felt at Panchayat Pounthal in block Dansal.

Member of Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma graced the occasion, emphasising the significance of this nationwide initiative.

The entire event was orchestrated with precision, where stakeholder departments showcased respective schemes through stalls, pamphlets, posters and exhibitions well coordinated by BDO Dansal Joni Kumar.   Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Manjeet Singh was also present.  The students of Government Middle School Pounthal added a cultural flair to the proceedings, participating in debate activities and skits centred around the theme of National Integration.

The VBSY Van, upon arrival, was welcomed with flower petals, setting the stage for the display of the PM’s message and the achievements under different government schemes in Pounthal.

In a similar event, the VBSY Van reached panchayat Dager in block Kharah Balli, receiving a warm welcome from the Swagat Committee and PRI representatives. Other prominent citizens also graced the occasion, aligning with the Yatra’s spirit.

The van projected PM Modi’s video message, inspiring the audience to pledge their commitment to the progress and prosperity of the nation. A compelling Nukkad Natak against drug abuse captivated the crowd, followed by cultural performances by students. A health camp provided free screenings for NCD, accompanied by the distribution of prizes, T-shirts and caps.

Line department representatives actively engaged with the public, explaining government schemes and distributing informative material. The public availed free health care services under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, sharing their success stories through ‘Mari Kahaani Meri Zubaani’.

These events, including one at panchayat Meshian in block Miran Sahib and MC Khour as well, seamlessly integrated into the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, amplifying its impact and spreading awareness about government initiatives.

SHOPIAN, DECEMBER 24: The Deputy Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) (Agriculture Extension), Professor Udham Singh Gautam and Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Professor Nazir Ahmad Ganai today visited KVK Balpora, Shopian where they inaugurated the Administrative office cum Laboratory Block of the Kendra.

Director ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana Professor, Parvender Sheoran, Director Extension SKUAST-K, Professor Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi and Estates Officer SKUAST-K were also present on the occasion alongwith officials of KVK and farmers of the area.

The dignitaries were welcomed by Dr. Zaffar Afroz Badri, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Shopian.

Addressing the gathering, Dy.DG praised the efforts of KVK especially its head with regard to quality of work being done at the grassroots level and provided his suggestions to make further improvements in farmer-oriented extension activities. 

He also appreciated the KVK for making its name among the best KVKs of country, which he attributed to meticulous efforts and much needed hard work that has been done to achieve the same.

Vice chancellor SKUAST-K highlighted the role of KVK in betterment of the farming community of District Shopian. He also pointed out some major achievements which KVK had achieved during last few years. 

Director ATARI Zone 1 Ludhiana stressed upon uploading the day-to day activities on KVK Portal and also stressed upon documentation of field activities to further improve the ranking of KVK.

The Director ATARI was also appraised of various constraints which the KVK has been facing every now and then and he assured all his help and cooperation in this regard. 

Director Extension Professor Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi in his address advised the educated youth to become job creators rather than job seekers. 

The dignitaries also paid field visit and undertook a comprehensive tour of the demonstration units including Horticulture, Field Crops, Poultry cum Duckery unit and other units of the Kendra.   

Some farmers presented their feedback of different farm activities with the dignitaries. They praised the role of KVK in dissemination of technologies from lab to land.

DODA, DECEMBER 24: A significant event, the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra camp was organized today at Sub District Hospital SDH Bhaderwah. The chief guest for this notable occasion was Dr. Simmi Tiwari, Joint Director in the Ministry of Health, Government of India. Dr. Tiwari received a warm welcome upon her arrival at the hospital.

In her address to the health community, Dr. Tiwari emphasized the importance of coordination and teamwork in delivering health benefits to the local area. She urged the health department to fully utilize its facilities and infrastructure for the betterment of society. KATHUA, DECEMBER 24: Deputy Commissioner, State Taxes Enforcement Kathua, HQ Lakhanpur Ranjeet Singh conducted a detailed review of activities of enforcement wing Kathua from April 2023 till 23rd December 2023.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Lakhanpur, STOs and other field staff of the enforcement wing. 

The main highlights of the review are the remarkable realization of Rs 3.16 crore penalty from GST defaulters.

Major commodities on which penalties were imposed during the period included cases without proper documents, marble/ granite, metal scrap, furniture products, tobacco products and other defaults.

The office of the Deputy Commissioner State Taxes registered an increase in revenue realization of 73% as compared to the last fiscal year.

The whole exercise was carried out by the staff of Deputy Commissioner State Taxes Enforcement Lakhanpur under the close supervision of Deputy Commissioner State Taxes Enforcement Lakhanpur, Ranjeet Singh under overall supervision of Addl.  Commissioner State Taxes Namrata Dogra and Dr Rashmi Singh, Commissioner State  Taxes Department.

People suffering due to lack of basic amenities in absence of popular Govt in J&K: Rattan Lal

JAMMU, Dec 24: The BJP government at the Centre has pushed Jammu and Kashmir into unprecedented political uncertainty due to its inability to maintain law and order in the Union Territory.

This was stated by Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Additional General Secretary and former minister while addressing a meeting of Party cadre of Jammu East Block at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan Jammu. Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President JKNC, Jammu was also present.

Ajay Kumar Sadhotra sharply criticized the government at the Centre for its failure to ensure the safety and security of Jammu and Kashmir’s citizens. He drew attention to the increase in targeted killings and consistent attacks on the armed forces, pointing out the significant discrepancy between the BJP leadership’s claims of ‘normalcy’ in J&K and the actual situation on the ground.

The former minister said that the recent tragic incident in Surankote area of Poonch district, wherein five courageous soldiers were martyred, is a stark reminder of the deteriorating security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.  The violent attack outside a mosque, coupled with the killing of a retired Senior Superintendent of Police, has shaken the local community and raised serious concerns about the safety of civilians and former law enforcement personnel, he said, adding that these distressing events emphasize the pressing need for a comprehensive and effective strategy to restore peace and stability in the Union Territory. 

Sadhotra said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve security, peace, and a return to normalcy, and it is imperative for the government at the Centre to prioritize their safety and well-being.

The meeting was presided over by Ashwani Charak Block President Jammu East.

Earlier, at the outset of the meeting, Chander Mohan Sharma District President Jammu Urban, apprised the senior functionaries about the problems being faced by the people of East Block with regard to shortage of basic amenities like scarcity of power and water supply, civic amenities, etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President JKNC, Jammu, termed it unfortunate that people were being subjected to immense suffering for want of basic amenities in absence of popular government in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that due to lack of vision and wrong policies of the government, people of J&K are facing a crisis like situation with each segment of society feeling abject neglect. The present government has failed to ensure delivery at the basic levels like availability of ration, power, health, education sector and unemployment.

Rattan Lal asserted that the governance failures writ large in almost every field, adding to the miseries of each and every section of the society. He said that people of Jammu and Kashmir are fed with hollow policies of government as it promised the moon but delivered nothing. He lamented that the common people are today crying hoarse for basic amenities and the government seems to be least bothered.

The Provincial President urged party cadre to take proactive steps in strengthening the party’s at the grassroots level. He encouraged party members to engage in outreach programs, community initiatives, and to actively listen to the needs of the people in order to build a stronger and more responsive political organization that truly represents the voices of the citizens.

Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary, JKNC, Jammu, asked people of East Constituency to strengthen the hands of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah as the National Conference alone can steer Jammu and Kashmir to peace, progress and political stability.

JAMMU, DECEMBER 24: The Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha has condemned the terror attack in Baramulla today. He has conveyed his deep sympathies to the family of Shri Mohammad Shafi Mir, retired senior police officer martyred in the attack.

In a tweet, the Lt Governor said: “Pained beyond words on the dastardly terrorist attack on retired police officer, Shri Mohammad Shafi Mir while he was giving a call for prayer in the mosque. Cowards responsible for this barbaric act will not be spared. My condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief”.

Addressing a commemorative event organized by Arya Samaj, Matunga at Mumbai, the Lt Governor remembered the remarkable contributions of Swami Shraddhanand in freedom struggle, social equality & justice and uniting all sections of society for nation building.

“Swami Shraddhanandji was dedicated to the ideals of peace, right conduct, self-reliance and strengthened the bonds of brotherhood in the society. His vision of new and developed India is being realised by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi,” the Lt Governor said.

The Lt Governor highlighted the lifelong campaigns of Swami Shraddhanand to promote Vedic values and to empower women through education.

He called upon the people, especially the youth to rededicate themselves to the ideals of Swami Shraddhanand and work for the welfare of the society and the nation.

JAMMU: In a recent press conference, Ravinder Raina said, the Hon’ble LG, announced that orders have been issued to initiate a probe into the killings of civilians in the Buffliaz area of Poonch district. Both the police and the Indian Army are actively involved in investigating the matter.

The incident at Buffliaz has sent shockwaves through the region, and the authorities are determined to bring the culprits to justice. The LG emphasized that whoever is found guilty will face punishment for their actions. This reassurance is crucial in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of the civilian population.

The Indian Army, known for its commitment to protecting the nation and its citizens, is expected to take stringent action in this case. The involvement of the Army in the investigation further highlights the seriousness of the matter and the determination to uncover the truth.
