 Indigenous Tulip Cultivation gains momentum, aim is to reduce Import Dependency

PULWAMA, APRIL 02: In a significant step towards revitalizing the floriculture sector in the district, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Field Station Bonera, Pulwama organized a grand Tulip Show today.

CSIR-IIIM has initiated a strategic programme for indigenous tulip bulb production under the overall supervision and mentorship of Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister for Science and Technology and Minister of Earth Sciences.

As part of this strategic intervention, over one lakh tulip bulbs have been successfully cultivated on 12 kanals of land at the Field Station. The programme is aimed at reducing import dependency, promoting domestic tulip cultivation and fostering an agritech ecosystem.

The Field Station was opened to the public today, allowing visitors to witness the breathtaking bloom of tulips. The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with a large number of people, including children and students, attending the festival.

The event showcased breathtaking displays of tulips in full bloom, offering a glimpse into the region’s floricultural potential and the success of indigenous innovation.

This step aligns with the national mission of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, reducing reliance on imported bulbs while creating economic opportunities for local farmers," said a scientist from CSIR-IIIM.

CSIR-IIIM officials emphasized the importance of scientific intervention and innovation in agriculture, stating that this initiative will pave the way for self-sufficiency in tulip production, benefiting both local farmers and the economy at large.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the floriculture industry, providing new opportunities for research, commercial cultivation and employment generation in the sector.

 

Progress reviewed, future action plan and initiatives discussed

PULWAMA, MARCH 01: A meeting of District Skill Committee (DSC) was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom at the District Administrative Complex, Pulwama.

The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of the District Skill Development Plan (DSDP) of the current financial year and discussing future initiatives and planning for DSDP 2025-26.

During the meeting, the progress of skill development initiatives undertaken in the district was assessed and strategies for enhancing vocational and entrepreneurship development trainings and employment opportunities were also discussed. The forum also emphasized strengthening collaboration between different departments and institutions to ensure the successful implementation of skill development programs.

The progress achieved by various departments under PM-SVANidhi, PM-VISHWAKARMA, NRLM, Himayat, PMEGP, PMKVY, SANKALP and other related schemes was also reviewed. Concerned officials were directed to ensure the effective implementation of these schemes and enhance awareness among the public to maximise their benefits in the district.

 On the occasion, Dr. Qayoom directed for formulating a comprehensive District Skill Plan by involving different line departments for widening the ambit of skill development programme under various schemes to create ample employment opportunities for the unemployed youth of the District. 

He further directed the officials to identify skill-deficit sectors in the district and ensure the enrolment of unemployed youth in relevant skill development training programs to effectively address the issue of unemployment in the district. 

Dr. Qayoom stressed the need for industry-linked training programs to enhance employability and self-employment opportunities for youth. Additionally, he emphasized the need for batch-wise training of members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to enhance their skill sets and economic opportunities.

During the meeting, DC reviewed the intake capacity and training procedures of the concerned centers and institutions, enrollment statistics, completion rates across various sectors and post-training placements of trainees from different training centers and institutes in the district.

Earlier, Superintendent ITI, Pulwama, presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the current status and achievements of various skill development programs across the district.

Among others, the meeting was attended by General Manager, DIC Pulwama; Chief Education Officer, Pulwama; Chief Executive Officer, Pulwama; Assistant Director Handicrafts/Handloom Pulwama; Superintendent ITI, Pulwama, Pampore & Tral.

PULWAMA, JUNE 25: The Director Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) launched “Crakify-Exam Preparation”, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) backed online app for the aspirants of different competitive examinations, here on Tuesday.

The app is an education services related application aimed at helping the students to prepare for different competitions like NEET, JEE Mains, UPSC, CUET, JKSSD, UGC NET and JKSSB and other job-oriented online examinations. The app has been developed by a startup – Recforge International Pvt. Ltd., a JKEDI identified startup to help the aspirants check their preparedness on a real time basis.

Speaking on the occasion, Director JKEDI, Rajinder Kumar Sharma, appreciated CEO Recforge International Pvt. Ltd for the efforts of his startup.  He said, “I am happy with the efforts and coming up with this app, the aspirants can check their preparedness using the vast question bank operational through AI randomization. Under J&K Startup Policy, the institute shall offer this startup all promised benefits including free office space for the first six months and seed money to help upscale the startup.”

Based in the frontier district Kupwara, Recforge International Pvt. Ltd through “Crakify-Exam Preparation,” provides subject-wise preparation tests, 10,000 plus questions in every subject with AI analyzation reports.

The app is available on the Play Store with both free and premium versions.

In a statement, DMO informed that A total of 211 vehicles/ machinery indulging in illegal transportation/ extraction of minerals have been seized from offenders and fine/ penalty to the tune of Rs. 72,23,000 has been realised from the offenders.

Besides, FIRs against 25 persons/ vehicles found to be involved in illegal mining have been lodged in various police stations of the district.

The proactive stance taken by joint teams ensuring environmental sustainability and the preservation of natural resources has resulted in seizures and deterrence by booing the offenders.

Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr Basharat Qayoom issued unequivocal instructions to prevent and deter illegal mining throughout the district during various District Mining Task force meetings.

District Administration has warned violators against resorting to illegal means and asked to follow proper procedural norms.

To ensure that various govt works are not hampered, disposal permits for a quantity minerals have been issued under rules thereby providing legal source of material for different developmental activities.

The permit holders have been cautioned not to violate the terms and conditions of the permits and in some cases the permits found to be violating the norms were cancelled immediately.

Moreover, a large quantity of minerals from legal blocks of neighbouring districts are being transported to other parts of Pulwama and Srinagar via Pulwama district. Such block holders have been directed to carry all requisite documents as mandated under law.

DMO Pulwama has advised people to desist from indulging in any kind of illegal mining, and procure the material from legal sources only otherwise stringent action shall follow against the offenders.

The Sankalp pledge became a poignant declaration, with individuals expressing their dedication to the ideals upheld by the Sankalp Yatra.

Under the “Meri Kahani Meri Zubani” segment, beneficiaries shared compelling stories of how they have personally benefited from Government schemes.

Beyond informative sessions, the event offered essential services, ensuring immediate benefits for attendees. Cultural events infused vibrancy, reflecting the dynamic spirit of the Viksit Bharat Yatra. 

Recognition extended not only to Government schemes but also to achievers, notably women, who were honored for their outstanding contributions.

The event witnessed the participation of ADDC Pulwama, Dr. Sheikh Abdul Aziz; ADC Tral and other District and Sectoral officers.
