RAMBAN, APRIL 10: The Labour Department Ramban, in line with the directives of Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary  and under the guidance of the Office of the Labour Commissioner J&K, has launched a 10 day comprehensive awareness and registration drive to enroll platform workers on the e-Shram portal.

The initiative is aimed at bringing workers from the unorganized sector under the ambit of social security benefits.

As part of this ongoing campaign, a dedicated registration camp was organized at Maitra. The camp was coordinated by DEO Tanveer Ahmed and it facilitated on-spot registration of 12 platform workers including parcel delivery workers and Commission based Workers on the e-Shram portal here at Bus Stand. The enrollment will enable the workers to access various welfare schemes.

Meanwhile, the Labour Department conducted awareness drives across the Ramban Municipal area, with a particular focus on hotels and restaurants to identify and educate platform workers associated with these establishments.

Assistant Labour Commissioner Amit Kumar urged the eligible platform workers and members of the general public to register themselves on the e-Shram portal to avail the social security benefits provided by the government.

“The e-Shram portal, launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, is a national database of unorganized workers. It offers a range of benefits including access to social security schemes, employment opportunities, and financial inclusion,” he stated.

The portal features a Universal Account Number (UAN) linked to Aadhaar, ensuring seamless access to different benefits. The single registration process requires minimal documentation — just an Aadhaar card and bank account details. To ensure wider accessibility, the portal also offers multilingual support, enabling users to interact in different Indian languages.

Eligibility for Registration includes individuals aged between 16 and 59 years, employed in the unorganized sector such as self-employed individuals, daily wage laborers, and gig workers. Possession of an Aadhaar card, valid mobile number, and a bank account are essential requirements.

The Campaign shall be  conducted across the District till 17th of April 2025.


 RAMBAN APRIL 09: While the country is celebrating Valour Day, 84 Bn CRPF, under the aegis of DIG CRPF Jammu North Ops Range Vivek Bhandral, unveiled a memorial stone dedicated to the supreme sacrifice of its 02 brave personnel.  Sh Shailendra Vikram Singh, then DIG CRPF Srinagar North and Constable/Dvr Naveen Kumar of the 144 Bn laid down their lives in the line of duty at Digdol on 15 Dec 2019.

The memorial stone was unveiled by Sh N Ranbir Singh Commandant in the presence of Sh A K Dixit Second in Command and personnel of 84Bn, Sh Zaheer Ahmed Ex-Sarpanch and prominent members of Digdol and media personnel.

During the function, floral tributes were paid to the 02 CRPF brave hearts.

Speaking on the occasion, Commandant 84 Bn stated that the memorial stone signifies CRPF’s steadfast commitment to honoring its heroes and upholding its legacy of valour. CRPF, with approx 250 Bn, is the largest Central Armed Police Force in the country and deployed for multifarious duties across the length and breadth of the country. 

The 84 Bn CRPF is securing a 47 km stretch of the NH 44, a major lifeline connecting Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country and ensuring smooth passage of SF, Yatri, VVIP, etc.

 


RAMBAN, APRIL 9: Government Polytechnic College (GPC), Chanderkote, Ramban today organized a certificate distribution ceremony for the successful candidates of the three-month Skill Development Course in Data Entry Operation.

The course was conducted by GPC Chanderkote and sponsored by the District Employment & Counselling Centre (DECC, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary.

Assistant Director Employment Amit Kumar was the chief guest. The Principal of the host institution Er. Vivek Mahajan expressed gratitude to DECC for selecting GPC Ramban as the training venue for this significant initiative aimed at youth empowerment.

Also present were, Head of Department (Electronics & Communication) Er Pawan Kumar and Course Coordinator Er. Aabid Hussain, who played a key role in the successful execution of the program.

The course, which commenced on December 30, 2024, and concluded on March 29, 2025, trained 30 local youth in data entry operations. It was aimed at equipping unskilled youth with practical skills to enhance their employability. Each trainee also received a monthly stipend of 1000 for three months, provided by DECC Ramban.

The ceremony was chaired by Principal   and Assistant Director Employment. In their addresses, both congratulated the trainees and emphasized the importance of skill development for self-reliance and livelihood generation.  AD Employment reaffirmed the department’s commitment to continue such initiatives for the benefit of the youth of Ramban.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by HOD Electronics and Communication Engineering.

The event marked the successful culmination of a collaborative initiative between GPC Chanderkote and DECC Ramban, aimed at promoting skill-based learning and empowering the youth of the district.


 RAMBAN, MARCH 31: The Ramban Forest Division marked the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr with a significant plantation drive across multiple Eidgahs and surrounding areas within the division. The initiative aimed to enhance green cover and promote environmental sustainability by planting numerous saplings in both urban and rural regions, particularly focusing on degraded lands and public spaces.

 The plantation drive was conducted under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ramban, Ankit Sinha. The initiative not only celebrated the spirit of Eid-ul-Fitr but also reinforced the commitment to a greener and healthier environment for future generations.

 The DFO emphasized the importance of such environmental initiatives and encouraged community participation in afforestation efforts. He highlighted that trees play a crucial role in combating climate change, improving air quality and preserving biodiversity.

 The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from locals, volunteers and forest officials, making it a collective effort toward environmental conservation. The Ramban Forest Division reaffirmed its dedication to continuing such initiatives, ensuring a sustainable and eco-friendly future for the region.

 


RAMBAN, MARCH 21: The Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Jammu, under the Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, organized a one-day National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) Training Programme in Ramban. The session was presided over by Chief Agriculture Officer Ram Gopal Sharma.

The CIPMC scientists, including Deputy Director Dr. Mithilesh Arya, Assistant Plant Protection Officer Dr. Haroon Rashid Hakla and Ravi Chhapre gave a PowerPoint presentation demonstrating the NPSS App. Farmers were guided on downloading and using the app to identify harmful pests in their fields and access instant online assistance for effective pest control. This initiative aims to enhance crop productivity and improve farmers' income.

Speaking on the occasion, the CAO emphasized the importance of adopting modern pest surveillance techniques to minimize crop losses and enhance agricultural productivity. He highlighted the Agriculture Department’s commitment to empowering farmers by integrating digital tools like the NPSS App, which helps in early pest detection and effective management. He further stressed that such initiatives are crucial for promoting sustainable farming practices and ensuring better livelihoods for the farming community in Ramban.

Prominent officials present at the event were District Nodal Officer NPSS, Ravi Sharma, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Ramban, Kuldeep Kumar, Soil Conservation Officer, Vikram Jeey Singh and Agriculture Extension Officers from Ramban and Chanderkote.

The training program emphasized the importance of digital tools in modern agriculture, equipping farmers with advanced pest management techniques to ensure sustainable and profitable farming in the region.

 


RAMBAN, MARCH 7: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Ramban has intensified the enforcement drive to rein in traffic violators and maintain safe driving on the roads.

In adherence with the directives of Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, and as per the guidelines of Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO  Kuldeep Singh has issued show cause notices to habitual violators and offenders for the suspension of their route permits and driving licenses.

  Over the past 15 days, the department has issued show cause notices to seven drivers for suspension of their driving licenses and six vehicle owners holding route permits for Banihal-Chamwal, for indulging in overcharging, overloading, and refusal to ply their vehicles as per the fare rates notified by the Transport Department.

During this extensive enforcement drive, the MVD team seized 20 vehicles and challaned 120 vehicles for operating without valid permits, fitness certificates, or for being unfit for public transportation.

Alongside the enforcement actions, the ARTO Ramban and his team of Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs) held meetings with transport operators and drivers to create awareness about road safety. During these interactions, drivers were counseled on ensuring vehicle fitness, timely renewal of documents, and adhering to speed limits. Strict warnings were issued against overcharging, overloading, and over speeding, and transporters were directed to operate their vehicles as per the prescribed time schedule.

ARTO Kuldeep Singh assured transport operators that their genuine grievances, if any, will be addressed on priority. However, he reiterated that such drives will continue across the district and no violations of traffic rules will be tolerated to ensure passenger safety across the district.

 


RAMBAN, MARCH 7: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM), celebrated International Women’s Day  here today under the aegis of the District Administration Ramban.

The event witnessed the participation of District Manager NABARD, Aarshi Sharma, NRLM BPM Banihal, Irahad, SBI Branch Manager, Vinayak, and JKB Manager Ishrat.

During the program, women Self-Help Group (SHG) members were briefed on various government-sponsored subsidy schemes aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs and strengthening rural livelihoods. As a mark of recognition and encouragement, ten women achievers were felicitated at the event with prizes for their outstanding contributions in various fields.

Additionally, an interactive session was held, where queries from SHG members were addressed, ensuring better access to financial and entrepreneurial opportunities for women in the region. The celebration highlighted the efforts of NABARD and JKRLM in fostering women’s empowerment through financial literacy and self-reliance, paving the way for sustainable development in Ramban.


 RAMBAN, FEBRUARY 27: SBI Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) Ramban organized an awareness Camp here today, focusing on the theme ‘Financial Literacy: Women’s Prosperity’. 

The event aimed to empower women and the local community with essential financial knowledge and creating awareness about the risks of cyber frauds.

The program was attended by Branch Manager SBI, Sachin Kumar, as the Chief Guest. 

In his address, the Branch Manager emphasized the importance of financial independence for women, encouraging them to actively participate in banking services, savings, investments and entrepreneurship. He also spoke about various financial products and government schemes available to support women in their economic growth.

Director, RSETI S. Harvinder Singh, conducted an insightful awareness session on financial management, digital banking, and cyber fraud prevention. He educated participants on the risks of phishing, OTP frauds, UPI scams, and fake calls, advising them on how to safeguard their financial assets and personal information in the digital era.

The camp witnessed active participation from women entrepreneurs, self-help group members and aspiring businesswomen, who were encouraged to utilize financial services effectively for economic self-reliance. Discussions were held on topics including Importance of Savings & Investments, Digital Banking & Secure Online Transactions, Government Loan Schemes for Women (PMEGP, Mudra Yojana, HADP, etc.) and Cyber Security Measures & Fraud Prevention

The interactive session allowed participants to ask questions and clarify doubts about banking security, business loans, and digital payments. The experts provided practical tips and guidance on financial planning, securing small business loans, and leveraging government schemes for self-employment opportunities.

Participants expressed gratitude for the informative session and pledged to implement financial awareness in their daily lives.


 RAMBAN, JANUARY 24: District Ramban celebrated National Girl Child Day with great enthusiasm under the overall guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ramban Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary.  The event, held at the Conference Hall, District Administrative Complex generated awareness about the importance of empowering the girl child and promoting gender equality in society.

A series of activities were organized by the Social Welfare Department and District Legal Service Authority across the district to mark the occasion, including awareness programs, seminars, cultural events, and interactive sessions highlighting the significance of educating and nurturing girls.

 The government departments, educational institutions, and social organizations collaborated to spread awareness about the rights and opportunities available for girls under initiatives such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), Mission Shakti, and Mission Vatsalya.

Secretary DLSA Ramban Priyanka Mahajan, was also present at the event and highlighted the legal provisions and rights available for the empowerment of girls. She emphasized the importance of ensuring justice and protection for girls, encouraging them to seek legal aid whenever needed.

Addressing the gathering at the event, officials emphasized the need for equal opportunities in education, healthcare, and skill development for girls.

 District Social Welfare Officer Rahul Gupta, in his address, stressed the importance of collective efforts in ensuring a brighter future for the girl child and reiterated the district administration's commitment to effectively implementing various government schemes.

Several initiatives were showcased during the event, including Career counseling sessions for school and college-going girls, Health and hygiene awareness campaigns conducted by medical teams, Skits and cultural programs performed by students advocating gender equality, Distribution of educational materials to underprivileged girls to encourage their participation in schooling.

Boxing kits were given away to 20 National Level Boxing Champions and participants, encouraging them to continue excelling in sports and bringing laurels to the district. The initiative aimed to motivate young girls to pursue sports as a career and enhance their physical and mental strength.

A special rally was also organized, featuring students, Anganwadi workers, and volunteers, carrying banners and placards advocating for the empowerment of girls with the slogan "Educate, Empower, Celebrate!"

The event concluded with the felicitation of meritorious girl students and achievers in various fields, acknowledging their contributions and encouraging them to aim higher in life.


 RAMBAN, JANUARY 23: In a significant initiative to promote cleanliness and patriotism, MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Raju today led a special sanitation drive themed "Swachhtantra - Gantantra Ki Shaan, Swachhta Se Bane Mahaan."

The drive, aligning with the spirit of Republic Day, aims to underscore the importance of cleanliness as a fundamental pillar of national progress and development.

Republic Day marks the adoption of the Indian Constitution and celebrates values such as justice, equality, and responsibility. Cleanliness, being central to these principles, was highlighted as a collective responsibility of every citizen. The sanitation drive was envisioned as a community-driven initiative to inspire action towards a cleaner and healthier environment across Jammu & Kashmir.

The campaign, organised by the Municipal Council Ramban under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, included special sanitation activities in and around District Hospital Ramban and other health institutions. These efforts brought together various sections of society, including local citizens, Swachhta ambassadors, hospital staff, and attendants. The participants showcased great enthusiasm and solidarity in making the event a success.

Prominent officials present on the occasion included Chief Medical Officer Dr Kamal Ji Zadu; Medical Superintendent District Hospital   Vrinder Trishal; CEO Municipal Committee Sudarshan Jamwal and other district officers, health workers, and prominent citizens. Their active participation reinforced the significance of collaborative efforts in achieving the vision of a clean and healthy Ramban.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Arjun Singh Raju emphasized the critical role of cleanliness in achieving the ideals enshrined in the Constitution. He urged citizens to adopt cleanliness as a way of life and contribute to making Ramban a model district in terms of hygiene and sustainable practices.

RAMBAN, JANUARY 20: The District Administration Ramban, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, continues its efforts to promote Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) to explore the huge potential of job opportunities for the rural youth in agriculture and allied sector activities.

In a significant development, a Rural Business Services Hub was inaugurated today at Maitra.

The inaugural function was graced by Chairperson District Development Council (DDC) Dr. Shamshad Shan; MLA Ramban, Arjun Singh Raju; Deputy Commissioner, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary; Senior Superintendent of Police, Kulbir Singh; and Assistant Commissioner Revenue, S. Harpal Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ram Gopal Sharma, AGMO Horticulture P&M Raju Zutshi.

The private agro-related facility ‘’Zaheeda Agro Trading Co’, established under HADP and sponsored by the Department of Planning and Marketing (P&M), Jammu and Kashmir Government, is designed to promote rural entrepreneurship. It aims to provide comprehensive agro-based business and services to the farming community at a single point.

Speaking at the event, the Chairperson and other guests highlighted the importance of such initiatives in empowering rural communities, enhancing farmers' income and advancing holistic agricultural development across the district.

The Chairperson lauded the collaborative efforts of the government and private stakeholders in establishing the hub and encouraged farmers to utilize the services offered effectively.

They also reiterated the commitment of the Government for strengthening the agricultural sector and creating employment opportunities for the youth.

The facility is expected to bolster agricultural operations and contribute to the socio-economic development of Ramban's rural areas, marking a crucial step toward a self-reliant farming community.

Prominent citizens, officials from the HADP implementing Departments, Farmers and local entrepreneurs also attended the event, showcasing their support for this transformative initiative.


 RAMBAN, JANUARY 16: Deputy Commissioner Ramban Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, braving heavy snowfall, today visited far off villages of Shalgadi, Kote, Panchal Bhordhar, Neel Top, and Neel Batoo in Tehsil Ukhral and Ramsoo. The visit aimed to review the status of essential services and address public grievances.

Accompanied by ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak and other senior officers of the District Administration, the Deputy Commissioner inspected essential supplies and services on the spot. Walking on foot through snowbound areas, he interacted with locals at their doorsteps to inquire about health facilities, ration, water, power supply, and road connectivity.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner issued on-the-spot directions to officers to prioritize snow clearance and restoration of road connectivity, while ensuring uninterrupted delivery of essential services. Special emphasis was laid on health facilities and the timely supply of ration, electricity, and water.

The Deputy Commissioner assured the public that the District Administration is committed to ensuring their welfare during challenging weather conditions and will continue to monitor and address their needs proactively.

The People were urged  to report immediately to the 24×7 Control Room on phone numbers 1998-295500, 01998-266790 in case of any emergency or untoward incident.


 RAMBAN, OCTOBER 11:  Chairperson, District Development Council (DDC), Ramban, Dr. Shamshad Shan, today initiated the commencement of construction work on a crucial 3 km link road connecting Hamsheela to Ghagra village Bhimdassa block Dharam.

This significant infrastructure development project, with an allotted 5.91crore, is being undertaken under NABARD by the Public Works Department.

Highlighting the importance of this endeavor, Dr. Shamshad Shan remarked that upon completion, the link road will address a longstanding demand of the area, substantially improving the lives of local residents by enhancing connectivity and accessibility.

She urged the engineers of the PWD to uphold rigorous standards to ensure that the project benefits the multitude of individuals relying on the road network in the vicinity.

The Chairperson also took the opportunity to engage with members of the community, attentively listening to their concerns and developmental needs, reaffirming her commitment to addressing their grievances and fostering inclusive development.

Assistant Engineer PWD Sub Division Gool Tariq Ahmed, Engineers of PWD, Haris Majeed, Nadeem Shah, prominent citizens, and the general public were present on the occasion.

 


RAMBAN, AUGUST 26: The General Observer for AC-54 Ramban and AC-55 Banihal, Himanshu Kumar Rai, along with Police Observer Kunal Aggarwal, today reviewed the preparedness of the district administration for conducting free, fair and transparent General Legislative Assembly Elections 2024 in district Ramban.

District Election Officer Ramban, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary; Senior Superintendent of Police, Kulbir Singh; ADDC, Roshan Lal; RO AC-54 Ramban, S. Harpal Singh, along with other officers and officials were present on the occasion.

The Observers inspected key locations, including the Strong Room and the 24x7 Election Control Room established within the District Administrative Complex, Maitra Ramban, to gain firsthand insights into the election arrangements.

Earlier, the DEO presented a comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation outlining the district's geography, challenges, and the extensive preparations undertaken by the District Administration and Police Department to ensure a smooth electoral process.


He provided detailed insights into the setup of Strong Rooms, 24X7 Election Control Room, establishment and management of Polling Stations, Transport Plan, randomization of EVMs and staff and the management of Service Voters and Postal Ballots.

During the meeting, the Observers stressed the importance of close coordination and teamwork to enhance election preparedness across the district.

The Observers assured the officers of full cooperation and guidance throughout the election process, emphasizing the need to promptly address complaints and issues to ensure smooth operations in both Assembly constituencies, AC-54 Ramban and AC-55 Banihal.

Commending the efforts of the District Administration, the General Observer highlighted the critical importance of ensuring a level playing field for all contestants. He urged the officers to strive for excellence in making the democratic process a success in the district.

 

RAMBAN, AUGUST 08: An anti-drug awareness rally was organized today by the Sub-Divisional Administration Gool in collaboration with Eslah-e-Muashra Council (NGO).

The rally aimed to generate awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse among youth and the community at large.

The rally was led by SDM, SDPO, Tehsildar and SHO along with the staff and students of Higher Secondary School (HSS) Gool. The participants marched from HSS Gool to Hospital Gool, with a large number of students and the entire team of the Eslah-e-Muashra Council, Sub-division Gool, taking part in the event.

Following the rally, a program was held at HSS Gool, where students actively participated and spoke about the harmful effects of drugs and related substances. The program emphasized the importance of staying drug-free for a healthier and more productive future.


RAMBAN, JULY 15: Omi Devi, a resident of Panchayat Chachawah of Block Sangaldan, had been living in a makeshift kutcha house with her family. The fragile structure was vulnerable to harsh weather conditions, and the fear of collapse was a constant concern.

However, her life took a turn for the better when her application for a PMAY-G house was approved. With the support of the scheme, she was able to construct a sturdy pucca house, providing her family with a safe and secure shelter.

Omi Devi's new house has brought immense joy and relief to her family. Her children can now study and play in a comfortable and safe environment. She expressed her gratitude, saying, "I was living in constant fear of the roof collapsing, but now I feel secure and proud of my new home."

Omi Devi's success story is a testament to the impact of PMAY-G in empowering rural women and providing a foundation for a brighter future. The scheme has not only given her a house but also a sense of dignity and independence.

"PMAY-G has given me new beginning in shape of a new home. I am forever grateful for this blessing," said Omi Devi, beaming with pride as she shows off her new home.

 

Heartwarming completion of PMAY House for Bahadur Singh in Panchayat Draman

RAMBAN, JULY 11: Successful completion of a Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Grameen (PMAY- G) house of Bahadur Singh, son of Butto Ram at Panchayat Draman in Block Rajgarh, under the Awaas Plus Scheme is a remarkable achievement, marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to uplift deprived communities and improve living conditions for all the citizens.

The Rural Development Department sanctioned Rs. 1, 30,000 for Bahadur Singh's dream house, disbursed in three prescribed installments. In addition to financial support, technical assistance was also provided throughout the construction process to ensure the house met all required standards and specifications.

This PMAY house, sanctioned in the fiscal year 2023-24, proved the commitment of the government to providing dignified and stable living conditions for all. Bahadur Singh, who has tirelessly worked as a labourer and small farmer, previously faced numerous challenges living in a kucha house at the same location. The transition to a pukka house noticeably improved his quality of life, offering him and his family a safe and stable environment.

Moreover, Bahadur Singh also benefited from the MG-NREGA scheme, securing 90 days of employment which has significantly contributed to his livelihood.

Additionally, a toilet unit worth Rs. 12,000 has been provided, ensuring access to proper sanitation facilities and further enhancing his living conditions.

District Administration extends heartfelt congratulations to Bahadur Singh and his family. They are confident that this new chapter in their lives will bring continued happiness, safety, security, and prosperity.

More than 50 Workers were educated about the Dos and Don’ts listed in the Public Health Advisory issued by National Programme on Climate change and Human Health and Advisory regarding heat wave, Thunderstorm and lightning.

The Assistant Labour Commissioner briefed the workers about the necessary precautions to be taken during the working hours during the day time especially between 12 pm to 3 pm. Meanwhile the Employers were directed to put in place necessary arrangements like drinking water, shaded areas, temporary shelters, rest breaks, first aid materials, etc at the worksites and impart training and awareness to all the workers about the heat wave mitigation and its precautions.

 Regarding the thunderstorm and Lightning, the ALC advised the workers to stay indoors, take shelter inside safe building, home, offices, shopping centres and avoid shelter under trees, electric poles,   metal structures or Constructions with metal sheets, to get off from hill tops, stay away from ponds, river side, utility lines,  telephone, metal fences, motor bikes, machines, etc. Never use mobile phones, umbrella with iron rods during thunderstorms.

Project Coordinator Child Helpline sensitized workers about Symptoms of Heat Stress and its preventive measures. Moreover, workers were also told about the working of Child Helpline in District and 27×7 Child Helpline No 1098 and urged them to call anytime whenever the help is needed.

Later, information pamphlets of advisories were distributed to employers and pasted at various worksites.
