SHOPIAN, APRIL 10: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta today visited  historical Mughal Road up to Pir Ki Gali to take stock of the traffic worthiness of the road, post completion of snow clearance from Shopian side.

DC took stock of snow/ rock debris removal at vulnerable spots that remain affected due to continuous slide.

DC also met DC Poonch,Vikas Kundal at Pir ki Gali and discussed its re-opening.

The Mughal Road, a strategic link between the Pir Panjal area  and Shopian district in South Kashmir is a critical route for transport and public movement and the administration is eager to throw it open for traffic subject to the good weather conditions and traffic worthiness.

The decision to re-open the road shall be taken  in consultation with district administration Poonch. 

DC directed the concerned departments to expedite the clearance work of slide and rockfall completely so that safety protocols are in place for smooth and safe travel.

The administration shall be closely monitoring the situation of Mughal Road on a daily basis, said DC on the occasion and assured that the road will be opened for traffic soon.

 


SHOPIAN, APRIL 08: In compliance with the directions issued by the Deputy Commissioner Shopian, a joint inspection drive was carried out today by the concerned Drugs Control Officers in coordination with Tehsildars in various villages of Hermain and Keller tehsils.

The inspection was carried out in Pehlipora, Kellar, Mastpora, Mashwara, Wanpura, Batmurran, Narpora, Hermain, Alamgunj, Kumdalan, Nagisharan, Hajipora, Nildora, Kharwara, and D.K. Pora areas.

During the inspection, a total of 14 medical shops were sealed on the spot for violations including non-installation of computerized billing systems, non-maintenance of records of scheduled formulations and breach of license conditions despite repeated instructions.

CCTV footage of the inspected establishments was also reviewed to ensure transparency in operations.

The district administration  has emphasized that such  inspection drives will continue in future and warned all medical establishments to adhere strictly to the norms laid down under the Drugs and Cosmetic Act.

 


DC Shopian inaugurates plantation drive, emphasizes importance of plantation

Shopian, March 21: In observance of World Forest Day, a mega plantation drive was organized today at Zawoora by Forest Division Shopian under the leadership of the Divisional Forest Officer, Abid Ali Lone.

The Plantation Drive was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta who on the occasion appreciated the significance of conducting massive afforestation drives in the district.

DC impressed upon all residents of the district to commit to plantation activities this season and contribute towards environmental sustainability along with reaping economic benefits.

The event witnessed active participation from the DFO Shopian, Deputy Director, FPF Shopian, Range Officer Shopian, and other officials from the Forest Department.

The plantation drive aimed to enhance green cover and promote environmental conservation in the area.The Forest Department has planted 3.6  lakhs trees across the district this year for afforestation purposes to enhance the green cover.

Addressing the gathering, officials emphasized the critical role of afforestation in combating climate change and maintaining ecological balance.


 SHOPIAN, MARCH 01: In a move to reach out to the far-off areas of the district under the special screening drive of the Department of Health and Medical Education, a Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Screening Drive was conducted today at Anganwadi centre Sedow, Shopian by Ayush Shopian.

The event aimed to promote early detection and prevention of NCDs among the local community.

The initiative focused on raising awareness and encouraging proactive health measures to combat the rising burden of non-communicable diseases. 35 people were checked for Hypertension and 23 for diabetics during the drive.

The screening drive witnessed active participation from the local population. Such initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening preventive healthcare and ensuring early intervention for various health conditions.


 SHOPIAN, FEBRUARY, 20: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Shopian today inaugurated one-week entrepreneurship skill development programme on “Sheep Farming" at Berthipora, Shopian.

The programme was attended by  Dr. Zaffar Afroz Badri, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK-Shopian;  Dr. Bilal Ahmad Pandit, Scientist Horticulture; Dr. Mir Shabir Ahmad Scientist Animal Sciences; Dr. Shaiq Ahmad Ganai Scientist Food Technology, Scientists from KVK-Shopian besides other participants.

Dr. Bilal A Pandit on the occasion deliberated upon the approach of horticulture and sheep farming which can lead the district to the new heights of glory and improve the soil health to a larger extent. He considered sheep farming viable means for sustainable progress of the farming community.

Dr. Mir Shabir, Course Coordinator of the programme through a power point presentation focused on import of high quality sheep breeds besides  importance and scope through multiple streams of sheep farming like mutton, wool, and pelt/hides.

Dr. Mir Shabir informed that SKUAST-K is planning to import the latest sheep breeds like Dorper, Texel, Finn, etc. under HADP project “Self Sufficiency in Mutton” and introduce in the valley to harvest the benefits of vast grazing area available in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr. Zaffar Afroz Badri, Senior Scientist and Head KVK Shopian opined on the easy availability of fodder in district and grazing area which are the prerequisites for profitable sheep farming.

Dr. Shaiq Ahmad Ganai, Scientist Food Technology highlighted  the HADP scheme for the benefit of the public.


 SHOPIAN, February 19: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishar Gupta today visited Mughal Road to assess the ongoing  snow clearance operations to open the road for vehicular movement.

On the occasion, he was informed that the stretch from Heerpora to Dubjan has been already cleared while the snow clearance operation on the rest portion of the stretch up to Peer Ki Gali is continuously progressing.

Meanwhile, DC instructed the concerned to complete the snow clearance of the vital road immediately to make it suitable for traffic movement.

ADDC, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone; ADC, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz and other officers were also present on the occasion.

 


Shopian, February 18: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shopian today  inaugurated week long programme on “Entrepreneurship Development through Mushroom Cultivation” at Berthipora, Shopian.

The programme was attended by team of Scientists from KVK-Shopian, Dr. Zaffar Afroz Badri, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK-Shopian, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Pandit, Scientist Horticulture, Dr. Mir Shabir Ahmad Scientist Animal Sciences and participants from Berthipora villages of the district have actively participated in the programme.

The experts on the occasion urged youth to earn livelihood through these programmes and asked them to become job providers instead of job seekers.

Further,  they deliberated upon the use of integrated approach to improve the soil health and different ways and means to cut down the input cost by adopting latest university recommended technologies for the betterment of the district. 

A power point presentation on Scientific Methods of Button Mushroom Cultivation and it’s Economics – A way for prosperity of entrepreneurs for profitable enterprises in mushroom industry and other practices to harvest the better dividends, improve the socio-economic status of the farming community was presented by Course Coordinator.

Participants were informed that raising of Button Mushroom can be a profitable enterprise wherein an entrepreneur can earn up to 40 to 60 thousands in a space of 10x10sft room by adopting scientific practices to take care of the crop in the leisure time. 

 

DC urges collaborative role of stakeholders in tackling drug abuse, popularising new criminal laws

Shopian, February 16: In an ongoing effort to combat the growing issue of drug abuse among the youth through multi pronged strategy and creating awareness on New Criminal laws, District Administration Shopian  on Saturday organised an enlightening awareness programme for the general public at Government Degree College, Shopian.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The event aimed to educate the public and students about the dangers of drug abuse, prevention strategies, and appropriate responses in case of encountering drug-related situations alongwith popularising the new criminal laws.

While speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner appealed for strengthening the collaborative approach of all stakeholders including government departments, agencies, communities and families in order to tackle the drug addiction among the vulnerable sections of the society.

DC said that drug addiction is a severe problem and has disastrous social and economic consequences.

To eradicate drug abuse, a combination of awareness, legal actions, rehabilitation measures and social support is essential, he said.

A collective effort from the Government, communities and individuals can help in creating a drug- free society, DC stated.

Deputy Commissioner also stressed for maintaining cleanliness around surroundings and called for public cooperation in eradicating the menace of non biodegradables.

Legal professionals while speaking said that rehabilitation should be prioritised over punishment for addicts and laws and regulations should be enforced strictly to control drug trafficking in the district.

Experts from the Police and legal professionals also delivered engaging lectures, empowering gathering with essential knowledge of new criminal laws in vogue.

Later, a rally was conducted which originated from GDC and passed through the bazaars of Shopian town and culminated at Clock Tower, Shopian with themes of Plastic Free Society and Drug Free Shopian.

On the occasion, other speakers highlighted the main features of New Criminal laws and deliberated on handling of non-bidegradable material also.

ADDC, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone, ADC, Dr .Zakir Hussain Fayaz,CEO, CMO, ACP, Tehsildar Shopian, College Faculty, youth and students of various educational institutions participated in the awareness and training programme along with other stakeholders and public.

 The distribution function was held at Town Hall, MC Shopian and was presided by DC Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar.

  During the function,   frontline workers of MC Shopian, Jal Shakti and KPDCL including drivers, line-men, sanitation workers and other staff associated with snow clearance and restoration of essential services were provided jackets, shoes and other essentials.

The aim of initiative was to acknowledge their selfless service in maintaining cleanliness & hygiene in the town and restoration of water and power supply lines across the length and breadth of district.

   DC Shopian appreciated the efforts of frontline staff who worked hard during the last spell of snowfall for the early snow clearance and restoration of services.

He said  administration is committed for taking all possible measures for their upliftment and asked them to perform their services with utmost sincerity and dedication.

    This initiative is a token of appreciation and small contribution from the district administration resources to provide some comfort to workers, recognizing their selfless service to the community, DC said.

 MCMC & DECR established to monitor Paid News, Pre-certify Political Advertisements; ensure smooth electoral process in Shopian

SHOPIAN, AUGUST 26: In view of the General Elections to Legislative Assembly 2024, the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) and District Election Control Room (DECR) have been established at Shopian as mandated by the Election Commission of India(ECI), marking a significant step to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process in the District.

The district level MCMC has been set up to ensure that all media content complies with ECI guidelines besides it will monitor paid news in the print media.

The MCMC shall certify all kinds of political advertisements to be telecasted or broadcast on electronic media. Also, it will certify the political advertisements to be published in print media on Poll day and Pre-poll day.

The District MCMC is headed by DEO and has members including ROs, DIO, Social Media Expert and a Journalist.

Meanwhile, the Election Control Room is currently in operation and has been functioning round the clock to manage various aspects of the electoral process and facilitate the electorate of the district with the relevant information.

The control room is acting as a communication link between different electoral teams and agencies, ensuring efficient information flow.

The establishment of MCMC and District Election Control Room demonstrates the District election authority’s commitment to uphold the integrity and fairness of the entire electoral process.

SHOPIAN, DECEMBER 24: The Deputy Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) (Agriculture Extension), Professor Udham Singh Gautam and Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Professor Nazir Ahmad Ganai today visited KVK Balpora, Shopian where they inaugurated the Administrative office cum Laboratory Block of the Kendra.

Director ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana Professor, Parvender Sheoran, Director Extension SKUAST-K, Professor Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi and Estates Officer SKUAST-K were also present on the occasion alongwith officials of KVK and farmers of the area.

The dignitaries were welcomed by Dr. Zaffar Afroz Badri, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Shopian.

Addressing the gathering, Dy.DG praised the efforts of KVK especially its head with regard to quality of work being done at the grassroots level and provided his suggestions to make further improvements in farmer-oriented extension activities. 

He also appreciated the KVK for making its name among the best KVKs of country, which he attributed to meticulous efforts and much needed hard work that has been done to achieve the same.

Vice chancellor SKUAST-K highlighted the role of KVK in betterment of the farming community of District Shopian. He also pointed out some major achievements which KVK had achieved during last few years. 

Director ATARI Zone 1 Ludhiana stressed upon uploading the day-to day activities on KVK Portal and also stressed upon documentation of field activities to further improve the ranking of KVK.

The Director ATARI was also appraised of various constraints which the KVK has been facing every now and then and he assured all his help and cooperation in this regard. 

Director Extension Professor Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi in his address advised the educated youth to become job creators rather than job seekers. 

The dignitaries also paid field visit and undertook a comprehensive tour of the demonstration units including Horticulture, Field Crops, Poultry cum Duckery unit and other units of the Kendra.   

Some farmers presented their feedback of different farm activities with the dignitaries. They praised the role of KVK in dissemination of technologies from lab to land. 

 


SHOPIAN, OCTOBER 25: Principal Secretary Education, Alok Kumar, today chaired a mega public grievances redressal camp here to take stock of issues and concerns of people of the district.

During the day long camp, hundreds of people participated and flagged off their issues before the visiting officer seeking an early redressal of the same.

Delegations including DDC Council, MC Councillors, Fruit Growers, Traders, Tribal leaders and activists, civil society members, SHG members and other groups besides PRI members projected development issues and demands of their respective areas.

These delegations raised various issues which inter alia included improving pre and post harvest management strategies in horticulture, agriculture and allied sectors, providing compensation to crop losses due to hailstorms, ensuring crop insurance, tourism promotion of spots, construction of circular road around Shopian town and flood protection bund around Fruit Mandi Shopian.

Delegations from across the district belonging to all tehsils, also asked for extending coverage of RTC bus services in major routes of the district, strengthening SHGs, enhanced water and power supply, establishment of Degree College at Hermain and mobile testing lab for pesticide testing. Besides, other issues pertained to health, school education, RDD, R&B, FCS&CA, banks, higher education and Sports Council.

Principal Secretary assured prompt response from the administration in resolving the issues projected by the participants during the camp. He also assured that demands, grievances needing resolution at higher levels shall be taken up with the concerned for appropriate action.

He instructed the officers to keep proper follow up on issues and demands of the people for timely resolution.

Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb, apprised the Principal Secretary of the measures being taken up by the district administration to bridge the development gaps thus improving the progress and welfare parameters of the district.

Later, Principal Secretary chaired a meeting of officers and stressed upon them to settle the grievances of routine nature promptly for easing out the problems of the people especially pertaining to health, education water, power and rural development.

Alok Kumar also called upon the officers and officials to be responsive and compassionate towards the people always and redress their problems timely.

 Emphasises on re-doubling efforts to achieve targets under CSSs

SHOPIAN, OCTOBER 19: Member Parliament, Lok Sabha, Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi today chaired District Development Coordination & Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at Mini Secretariat, here to review the physical and financial progress of various Central Sponsored Schemes (CSS) in the district.

The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb through powerpoint presentation apprised the chair about ongoing development projects, schemes in the district and implementation status and progress under CSSs along with the achievements of departments.

He highlighted the achievements, special initiatives, best practices of the District Administration and put up detailed department wise, scheme wise progress for consideration.

The DDC informed that work on various developmental projects is going on speedily in the district to facilitate the general public and mentioned under- construction water supply schemes for saturation of FHTCs under JJM, Trenz Shiekhpora bridge, construction of roads under R&B, PMGSY, Indoor Stadium, construction of Amrit Sarovars, Houses under PMAY, etc and highlighted the acceleration of socio-economic indicators in the district

Masoodi reviewed MGNREGA, PMAY (R&U), SBM, NRLM, NHM, Ayushman Bharat/ JK Sehat Scheme, JSY, JSSK, HADP, PMGSY, IDPS, JJM, AIBP, PMKSY, Poshan Abhiyaan and other centrally sponsored schemes, one by one.

While taking stock of department wise progress, MP stressed upon bettering the performance under these schemes.

The MP stressed for keeping an adequate buffer of transformers for the winter and the need of having workshops at Keller, and Zainapora also, effective implementation of JJM, completing all targets of HHU under PMAY during the year.

He also asked for putting in place drug de-addiction and rehabilitation facilities along with treatment facilities. He sought status of road construction, healthcare facilities and winter preparedness during the meeting.

Masoodi also sought vacant positions of health and education staff and need for reflection with higher authorities for early provision along with creation of new posts, enrollment status, drop-outs rates, status of migratory schools.

He also asked for making approaches towards Institutional Home for Women in the district, and better facilities to inmates in Children Homes, empowerment of women, children, downtrodden and Tribals besides emphasising upon officers for removal of bottlenecks in the implementation of schemes especially in KPDCL billing.

Masoodi appreciated the efforts of officials for making significant improvements in social, economic and development indicators of the district.

The MP also sought feedback from officers of Power, Jal Shakti, Horticulture, Health, Education, Social welfare and others on their department's activities and future plans to bridge developmental gaps.

Masoodi asked all the officers to remain in touch with the people, pay regular visits and organize camps in all the remote and far-flung areas so that the people can avail maximum benefits of the schemes meant for the welfare of the people.

Reviews the progress of development works and implementation of various UT and Central Government Schemes

SHOPIAN, OCTOBER 04: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today chaired the District Review Meeting at Shopian and took stock of the development works underway in the district and implementation of various UT and Central Government Schemes.

“It is our endeavour to harness potential of each district to fuel economic growth of J&K. Every official at all levels of administration must discharge his responsibility with greater dedication and sensitivity to ensure the benefits of the development reach every household,” the Lt Governor said.


He directed the officials for conducting regular survey to identify the new eligible beneficiaries under the centrally sponsored and the UT sector schemes and the children having any kind of abnormalities by birth.

Reviewing the progress achieved in agriculture & allied sector, the Lt Governor directed for connecting every farmer of the district with agriculture related schemes and programmes and increasing their registration on the Daksh portal.

The Lt Governor impressed upon the District Administration and the officials to promote setting up of cold storage and other industrial units at local level.

Robust strategy should be prepared for effective implementation of District employment and District Export plans. Use Block Diwas as a platform to expand livelihood generation and self-employment opportunities for the youth, he said.


He further called for exploring all the avenues to tap the tourism potential of the district and promoting Amrit Sarovars as tourist spots.

The Lt Governor also sought a detailed report on the financial assistance extended to Women/ST/SC under Stand Up India and directed for conducting regular meetings of District Administration with the Banking institutions.

Emphasizing on improving connectivity in the rural areas, the Lt Governor directed the officials to take comprehensive measures to ensure road connectivity to every village in the district.

He directed the district administration and police to run special campaigns to keep youth away from the menace of drug addiction and called for united efforts by every section of the society in the fight against drugs.

Sh. Faz Lul Haseeb, Deputy Commissioner Shopian gave an overview of the developmental scenario in the district.

Later, the Lt Governor also interacted with delegations of PRI & ULB members, District Bar association, members of Civil Society and Tribal community, Fruit Growers & Cold Chain Association and Political leaders and took stock of their concerning issues.

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 29: Under the ongoing Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, Department of Rural Development is celebrating the ODF plus model camps in all the blocks of district Shopian alongwith engaging people taking the solemn resolve to sustain the mission.

The camps were mainly held at Block headquarters of Chitragam, Zainapora, Shopian, Kanjiullar, Ramnagri, Kaprin, Keller, Imamsahab and Hermain.

The camps were attended by a large number of public and were chaired by BDOs of the concerned blocks. Members of different strata of society were made aware about the achievements under SBMG-II.

It was informed that the District has already achieved ODF plus model status under which all components of waste like Solid waste, Liquid waste, Faecal waste and plastic are managed scientifically.

People were given information about the uses of SWM sheds, Liquid Waste Management Units, Plastic Waste Management Sheds, Soakage pits, Compost pits and door to door collection and segregation of the waste.

It was impressed upon in the camps that most important thing of SBM Plus is its sustainability. Different ways to sustain this model were discussed and the public took a resolve to act on these measures to make their areas clean and sanitized.

People in these camps expressed their satisfaction over the steps taken by the Department of Rural Development for making the District SBM plus under SBMG II.
