Over 4 lakh pilgrims pay obeisance in 10 days

 Katra, October 23: The nine day long Shat Chandi Maha Yagya organised by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) during Navratras for world peace, harmony, prosperity and health of humanity concluded on the auspicious occasion of Ramanavami at the Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji.

Shri Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, other officers and staff of the Shrine Board, besides pilgrims participated in Purna Ahuti and other religious ceremonies performed amidst Vedic Mantras on the occasion. A group of pandits led by Padma Shri Prof. Vishwamurti Shastri, performed the Maha Yagya.

The special additions to the pilgrimage during these Navratras included Skywalk, remodelled Parvati Bhawan, Virtual Darshan through the Holy Natural Cave and free Langar Sewa at Shri Bhairon Ji Temple Complex, besides the ‘Live Darshan Facility’ and Bi-lingual "Shakti" chatbot on the website of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for the pilgrims. These initiatives are aimed at making the pilgrimage more convenient and enjoyable for the devotees.

An average of 40,000 pilgrims is paying their obeisance daily and over 4 Lakh pilgrims have visited the holy shrine since the onset of Navratras. During the nine day long Shardiya Navratras last year, about 3.15 Lakh pilgrims had visited the holy shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji.

The pilgrimage has been increasing every month as the Shrine Board is encouraging pilgrims by further adding on state- of- the-art facilities. Pertinent to mention that the Sky walk inaugurated by Hon'ble President of India on 12th October, played a pivotal role in the yatra management during these Navratras and achieved the desired aim of decongesting the Bhawan area by streamlining the entry and exit routes to the holy cave.

The Board had also made impressive and elaborate arrangements for the pilgrims during Navratras.These include decoration of the Bhawan of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji, Atka and the area surrounding it with exquisite flowers, round the clock water and power supply all along the tracks leading to the Shrine and in the Bhawan area besides up keeping of sanitation and sanitisation, availability of special “fast related” food at the Board’s Bhojanalyas. The illumination of the Bhawan area with attractive and colourful lights was also done. For the ease and comfort of pilgrims, facilities like the accommodation, battery operated vehicles, passenger ropeway and helicopter services were also operated smoothly. The Shrine Board also made arrangements for free food for the pilgrims at Tarakote Marg and Prasad Kendra at Sanjichhat, besides free Langar Sewa at Bhairon Ji.

Other highlights during these Navratras were bhajan and bhaint performances during morning and evening Atka Aarti by the renowned artists like Himesh Reshammiya ,Mika singh, Lakhwinder Wadali, Maithili Thakur, Mani ladla, Kaler kanth, Kumar vishu besides budding students of SMVD Gurukul.

New Atka complex to add charm to pilgrims’ journey

          Katra, October 15:  For facilitation of the pilgrims, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) started a free Langar Sewa today at Shri Bhairon Ji Temple Complex after commencement of Shatchandi Yagya on the beginning of auspicious occasion of Shardiya Navratras at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.

          The Langar Sewa was inaugurated by Shri Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board as per the directions of Hon’ble Chairman, SMVDSB (Lt. Governor, JK-UT). A pooja was held at the site before the commencement of the Langar Sewa. It is the third such facility by the Board in a row. Two are already operating at Tarakote Marg and Sanjichatt and both the facilities have received wide spread appreciations from the devotees who relish meals being offered in the form of Prasad during the arduous track upto the Holy Cave.

          The Langar facility has commenced at the already existing spacious Bhojanalaya of the Board at Bhairon Ji which can cater to around 150 pilgrims at a time. The Langar kitchen has been equipped with modern kitchenware, utensils and other gadgets to provide most hygienic and wholesome food to the pilgrims.

          The Langar sewa has been started by the Shrine Board in its continuous endeavours for providing free meals to the maximum number of pilgrims visiting the Shrine.

          Among those present on the occasion were Dr Ashok Bhan; Sh.K K Sharma Members of the Board; Dr. Jagdish Mehra, Jt. CEO, other officers and employees of the Board, besides a large number of pilgrims.

          Before the commencement of Navratras, President Smt. Droupadi Murmu inaugurated Skywalk and remodelled Parvati Bhawan at the Holy Shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji on October 12 in the presence of Chairman, SMVDSB (Shri Manoj Sinha Lt. Governor JK-UT). These facilities were dedicated with an aim to overcome the problem of multidirectional flow and to ensure systematic and smooth movement of yatra seeking multiple facilities in the Bhawan area which include lockers, washrooms, resting place and toilets etc. and channelize the devotees towards the Skywalk for darshan of Sanctum Sanctorum. Both these facilities were thrown open on the first Navratra thus adding to ease of convenience for the pilgrims.

          Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer attended the beginning of nine-day long Shatchandi Yagya amidst the vedic hymns, religious chants and performance of other religious ceremonies being organized during ‘Shardiya Navratras’ at the Holy Cave Shrine for peace, prosperity and health of humanity, which will conclude with Purna Ahuti on Mahanavami. The Yagya ceremony is being telecasted live on MH1 Shradha from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM daily during Navratras.

          Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has made grand decorations at Bhawan, Atka and the area surrounding it for the large number of pilgrims visiting during ongoing Navratras to pay obeisance at the Holy Shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji. The decorations are made with indigenous-foreign fruits and flowers, as well as huge reception doors and pandals have been installed in the Bhawan Area. Likewise, the illumination of the Bhawan area with attractive and colourful lights has also been done.

          Besides, aesthetically widening the Atka area by which sitting capacity at Atka Aarti has been increased from 220 to 450 is adding charm to the pilgrim’s journey to the Holy Cave.

          The Shrine Board has also made elaborate arrangements for facilitating a large number of pilgrims who are expected to pay their obeisance at the Sanctum Sanctorum during Navratras. These arrangements include round the clock water and power supply all along the tracks leading to the Shrine, sanitation, medicare and availability of special “fast related” food at the Board’s Bhojanalayas. Besides, all the routes leading to the Holy Cave Shrine are fully maintained for smooth movement of pilgrims.

          Shrine Board has also ensured smooth pilgrimage of Divyang pilgrims by facilitating them by providing free pony, battery car service and assistance in darshans as per the directions of Chairman, SMVDSB. A round the clock Call Centre with Toll Free No – 18001807212 has also been made operational by the Board to facilitate the pilgrims.

          CEO Shrine Board constantly reviewing and monitoring the regulation of Yatra along with other arrangements all along the track and in the Bhawan Area and interacting with the pilgrims enquiring about the facilities made by the Shrine Board for their facilitation.

KATRA, OCTOBER 12: The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu today visited the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji and paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum. She prayed for the prosperity and well-being of fellow citizens.

She was accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha. This is the first visit of Smt. Droupadi Murmu as President to the Holy Shrine. On arrival at the Panchhi Helipad, the President was received by Sh. Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

The President inaugurated various state-of-the-art pilgrim-centric facilities at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. These included 250-meter long and 2.5 mtr. wide Skywalk project at an elevation of 20 feet above the existing track which has been constructed in record 14 months time at a cost of Rs 15.69 crore with an aim to overcome the problem of multidirectional flow of yatra. The Skywalk is laced with most modernized facilities like the wooden flooring as a preventive measure for devotees’ comfort in harsh weather conditions, a waiting hall, seating arrangements for about 150 pilgrims, LED screens, resting rooms and two emergency exits.

The pedestrian flyover (Skywalk) has an aesthetically designed entrance with an artistically embellished portray of Nav Durga to give an enriched experience for devotees. After its commencement, now entry and exit routes leading to the sanctum sanctorum have been separated to ensure systematic and smooth movement of yatra.

Besides, the President inaugurated Remodeled Parvati Bhawan which included 1,500 digital lockers, waiting lounge, washrooms and toilets for the devotees. The aim of consolidating multiple facilities under one roof is to curtail the crisscross movement of devotees seeking locker facilities and bathing spaces in the Bhawan area and channelize the devotees towards the Skywalk. The retrofitted Parvati Bhawan is a free-of-cost facility that shall able to facilitate around 10,000 pilgrims per day. The inaugural ceremonies commenced with hawan and pooja rituals.

The President complimented the efforts being initiated by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board under the Chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha towards facilitating the journey and holy Darshans of the pilgrims.

While on return, the President also visited the Bhairon Temple via Passenger Ropeway and paid obeisance.

Meanwhile, the Lt Governor, who is also the Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board apprised the President about the initiatives being taken by the Shrine Board for upgrading and expansion of the infrastructure to facilitate pilgrims to the Holy Shrine. These initiatives are aimed at making the yatra more convenient and memorable for pilgrims which is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Board.

KATRA, SEPTEMBER 06: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today addressed a ceremony organized to commemorate Foundation Day of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Annual day of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Katra at Matrika Auditorium of SMVD University.

The Lt Governor inaugurated Gayatri Bhawan, a residential complex for the employees of the Shrine Board at Nomain. He also e-inaugurated underground cabling project in Shrine Area and additional Dining and Accommodation at Gurukul.

In his address, the Lt Governor extended his heartiest congratulations to all the Members, management and everyone associated with the Shrine Board and SMVD Gurukul.

The Lt Governor announced Children Education Allowance to all the employees of Shrine Board that will benefit all the staff having children in Schools.

He said the government is committed to protect and promote the welfare of employees of the Shrine Board. The Children Education Allowance will be provided to the employees from Sharadiya Navratri in the month of October this year, he added.

At the ceremony, the Lt Governor shared the efforts of the Shrine Board to augment facilities for the pilgrims.

“Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine pilgrimage is a symbol of our Sanatan Culture, source of energy and divinity for humanity. With the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi, our endeavor is to make modern infrastructure as medium of service to devotees, hassle-free pilgrimage and enrich spiritual experience of travelers,” the Lt Governor said.

He also appreciated the endeavours of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul to provide quality education to the students.

“Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul is also transforming into a melting pot of science and Sanskar. The Gurukul is persistently making a single effort, to create a fine balance between Science, Technology with search for oneself, inner journey and create a spiritual climate for wisdom to grow,” the Lt Governor said.

Our rich spiritual legacy, Vedas, Upanishads are guiding light for humanity. The Gurukul as an energy field has beautifully integrated modern education with Vedic education to prepare the students to serve the society and effectively tackle the future challenges, he said.

The Lt Governor said the sacrifice, service and spirituality are the foundation of all-round development of the society.

Our Schools, Gurukuls and Universities should provide a conducive environment for all students to develop their overall personality, encourage originality, new ideas, instill self-confidence among the students and inspire young minds for nation’s social and economic empowerment, he added.

The Lt Governor released the second edition of Annual Magazine of SMVD Gurukul. A Sanskrit Short Film “Tatvabodh” was also screened on the occasion.

KATRA, AUGUST 19: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today chaired the 71st Board meeting of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at Kakryal.

The meeting was attended by members of the Board– Mahamandleshwar Swami Vishveshvaranand Giriji Maharaj; Dr Ashok Bhan; Sh. Kul Bhushan Ahuja; Dr Neelam Sareen; Sh. K K Sharma; Sh. Suresh Kumar Sharma and Sh. Raghu K. Mehta.

Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor and Sh. Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB were also present.

The Board under the chairmanship of Lt Governor accorded in-principle approval accorded for the establishment of a 50-seat new Medical College at Kakryal at an approximate cost of Rs. 350-450 crore.

The Board concurred with the projected need for expansion of the operational base of SMVDNSH (Hospital of the Board) to cater to a larger number of patients requiring specialized treatment. After extensive deliberations, the Board accorded in-principle approval to addition of 200 to 220 beds to the existing capacity of Hospital at an approximate cost of Rs. 120 crore.


The Board took note of reported position, held extensive deliberations, ratified and gave in-principle approvals to as many as 36 agenda items having varied implications for the functioning of Board and augmenting of pilgrim services.

The Board asked the CEO SMVDSB to strive for creating best of facilities in sync with the emerging requirements, for making pilgrimage a memorable experience. In line with the same, the Board granted in-principle approval to construction of a new Yatri-cum-Staff accommodation at Bhawan at an approximate cost of Rs. 31.51 crore.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of various pilgrim-centric mega infrastructure projects such as Skywalk, retrofitting and remodeling of Parvati Bhawan, expansion of Atka area etc.


The CEO, SMVDSB informed the Board that the prestigious projects underway at Bhawan are being expedited and are likely to be completed prior to the Shardiya Navratras. He also apprised the Board about various steps initiated for averting crisscross movement of pilgrims for a hassle free Darshan experience.

The CEO Shrine Board was directed to expedite construction / redevelopment of Shankaracharya Temple along with the creation of track and allied facilities and emphasized the need to engage all stakeholders for satisfactory resolution of all pending issues in this regard.

The CEO apprised the chair about the action taken on several fronts such as employees’ welfare (including re-structuring of various cadres, institution of Award Scheme to recognize outstanding performers etc), the amendment in Administrative, Financial and other powers to be exercised by various officers, the disaster management initiatives undertaken in the recent past and as to how these have helped in improving the employee’s level of preparedness to face any disaster like situation.


The Board also approved the required Grant-in-Aid for the FY 2023-24 in favour of SMVD Charitable Society for strengthening the functioning of Board’s peripheral institutions like Gurukul, Hospital, Sports Complex and College of Nursing (being managed under the SMVD Society).

The Lt Governor reiterated that the facilities for pilgrims are topmost priority of the Board and all steps must be taken for their hassle-free pilgrimage.

He directed the CEO Shrine Board to ensure online bookings for passenger ropeway for easy access and comfort of devotees. The safety of passengers must be ensured, he added.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Lt Governor, who is the Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, laid e-foundation stones for Cottages and a mess Block near SMVD Sports Complex Katra for the devotees and Staff accommodation at Banganga to be developed at a cost of Rs. 14 crore.

He also launched the revamped website of Shrine Board and released the Dogri translation of Panchtantra by Dr Neelam Sareen.
