SRINAGAR, APRIL 13: The 52nd Annual National Conference of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSMCON 2025) concluded today here, marking the successful culmination of a three-day event.

The conference, organized by the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine of Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar brought together public health experts and professionals from across India

The event, held from April 11 to 13, saw enthusiastic participation from more than 1,270 delegates, along with 32 co-delegates from all 32 states and Union Territories, including remote regions such as the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The national level conference was inaugurated by Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah in a ceremonial opening that set the tone for an enriching academic discourse. 

He was joined by several key dignitaries, including Dr. Annarao Kulkarni, National President of IAPSM; Dr. Purushottam Giri, Secretary General of IAPSM; Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal of GMC Srinagar and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Medical Specialties, University of Kashmir; Prof. (Dr.) S. Muhammad Salim Khan, Head of the Department of Community Medicine and Conference Chairman; and Dr. Inaamul Haq, Associate Professor and Organizing Secretary of IAPSMCON 2025.

In his keynote address, Dr. Shah emphasized the importance of integrative healthcare approaches, advocating for the convergence of preventive and curative strategies to build resilient and inclusive health systems. His remarks highlighted the evolving nature of healthcare, calling for a unified vision that places public health at the heart of national development.

Prof. (Dr.) Iffat underlined the critical role played by public health in guiding policy and ensuring community welfare. She commended the efforts of GMC Srinagar in advancing the cause of preventive medicine and fostering a culture of academic excellence and community service.

A poignant moment of the conference came with the posthumous conferment of the Lifetime Achievement Award to the late Prof. Muneer Ahmad Masoodi, a former Head of the Department of Community Medicine at GMC Srinagar. His legacy was honored through the presence of Ms. Zeenat Masoodi, who accepted the award on his behalf.

The academic program commenced with six intensive pre-conference workshops on April 10 at GMC Srinagar, setting the stage for a comprehensive exploration of the conference’s central theme, “Integrative Approaches for Comprehensive Care in One Health”, resonating with the slogan “One Nation, One Health, One World.” 

Over the subsequent days, the event transformed into a vibrant academic forum featuring a remarkable range of sessions, including 11 plenary discussions and 11 keynote addresses from distinguished national and international public health leaders.

Scientific engagement was at the forefront of the conference, with a total of 561 presentations spanning award papers, oral presentations, and posters. These sessions unfolded across six parallel venues—five physical halls and one virtual—with select hybrid sessions held in the main auditorium. 

Among the many highlights was the presence of Prof. B.N. Gangadhar, President of the National Medical Commission (NMC), who engaged in critical discussions with health professionals and shared insights on much-needed reforms in the healthcare system and medical education landscape.

The closing ceremony, held on today, was graced by Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Executive Director of AIIMS Awantipora, who served as the chief guest. In his address, he reaffirmed the indispensable role of public health in nation-building and called for sustained investment in community health and preventive strategies. 

Joining him at the valedictory function were Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmad, Director General of the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine, as guest of honour, along with senior faculty members, department heads, and administrative officers from GMC Srinagar and IAPSM.

As IAPSMCON 2025 came to a close, it left behind a strong message of collaboration, innovation, and a unified commitment to fortifying the future of preventive and social medicine in India. The conference not only celebrated the achievements of the past but also laid a firm foundation for addressing the emerging challenges of healthcare through integrative and inclusive solutions.

 


SRINAGAR, APRIL 13: A vibrant cultural event celebrating the spirit of Baisakhi was held today at the picturesque Badamwari garden, Srinagar, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) in collaboration with the Department of Floriculture, Kashmir.

The program commenced with a warm welcome by Additional Secretary, JKAACL, Ideel Saleem, who greeted the enthusiastic audience and extended his heartfelt appreciation to the participating artists. The event drew an overwhelming crowd, with thousands from the general public gathering in the lush gardens to witness the rich cultural spectacle.

The mesmerizing performances by legendary artists Ustaad Abdul Rashid Hafiz, Ustaad Mohammad Yaqoob Shaikh, Gulzar Ahmad Ganai, Waheed Jeelani, Ajaz Rah, and Assad Anjum created a magical ambiance, celebrating the cultural heritage of the region. Their soulful renditions left the audience spellbound, turning the springtime garden into a hub of festivity and joy.

Renowned anchor Rashi Nizami conducted the event with grace and elegance, adding charm to the memorable occasion.

The program beautifully reflected the cultural harmony and artistic excellence of Jammu and Kashmir, making it a truly unforgettable celebration of Baisakhi.

JKAACL in collaboration with the Department of Floriculture, Kashmir will be organizing more such events in future, wherein, the general public and tourists alike will enjoy the rich cultural diversity amongst beautiful gardens and parks of Kashmir.

 
SRINAGAR, APRIL 11: In continuation to its efforts aimed at capacity building of Forest Services aspirants, a one day workshop titled ‘Strategies and Approaches for Qualifying Indian Forest Examination’ was today held at the North Forest Headquarters at Mazbugh Sopore.

The training cum workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from forest services aspirants from Baramulla, Kupwara, Ganderbal and Budgam districts.

Conservator of Forests (CoF), Kashmir North Circle, Irfan Ali Shah in his  address spoke at length about the immense potential of local youth and the significance of increasing awareness about the Indian Forest Service.

CoF encouraged aspirants to pursue careers in the green sector with passion, commitment, and integrity. He underscored the department’s need for young, dynamic officers for ensuring good governance and a sustainable future.

Civil society and local residents expressed optimism that the Department would continue organizing such initiatives in the future as well.

 

SRINAGAR, APRIL 11: In order to ensure top notch facilities for Yatris during the forthcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY) 2025, Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri on Friday convened a meeting to review the action plan of works of line departments and concerned district administrations.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar, Budgam, Anantnag, Bandipora & Ganderbal besides Director Tourism, Director Health Services Kashmir, Director ULB, Director CAPD, Labour Commissioner, Chief Engineers of R&B, KPDCL; officers of SMC, Information, PHE, I&FC, Ayush, Pahalgam Development Authority, Sonmarg Development Authority, etc.

Addressing the meeting, Div Com directed Departments to submit action plans for SANJY-25 urgently, and initiate the process of floating of tenders so that the works shall be completed within the stipulated time.

Keeping in view the railway connectivity, Div Com directed Deputy Commissioners for creating temporary additional facilities at Railway Station Anantnag and Budgam to accommodate and ferry pilgrims.

He urged departments including Health, KPDCL and PHE to frame work plans for these stations also to ensure smooth delivery of respective services.

He instructed the Director Tourism to make the accommodation of the department at Budgam Railway station available to district administration for utilization during yatra.

Div Com enjoined DC Anantnag for creating the facilities of appropriate number of RFID registration counters in the district.

He also urged DCs for keeping funds for unforeseen exigencies to address issues urgently and efficiently.

 


KUPWARA, APRIL 11: In order to ensure timely completion of works under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and saturation of Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) in sub district Handwara, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Handwara, Javed Naseem Masoodi Friday chaired a series of meetings with concerned officers, here.

While chairing the meeting of PHE officers, the ADC impressed upon the concerned engineers to speed up the pace of work and ensure completion of all ongoing JJM schemes in the sub district to mitigate the water supply issues of people of various areas.

The meeting held a threadbare discussion regarding the status of various ongoing water supply schemes coming up in different areas of PHE division Handwara.

It was informed that 10 schemes have been completed under JJM in the sub district  besides, out of the total 122 allotted works pertaining to construction of Bore wells/Tube wells/Dug wells, OHTs, RSFPs, GSRs/Pipe Network, 59 works stands completed and work is in progress on the rest of the projects.

The ADC chaired a separate meeting of concerned officers to review the progress of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and other schemes of the Agriculture department. He enjoined upon the officers to ensure awareness of the HADP scheme at grassroots level so that maximum beneficiaries are covered and benefitted under the ambitious scheme targeted for upliftment and welfare of the farmer community.


 SRINAGAR, APRIL 11: Srinagar Municipal Corporation today launched a demolition drive in Ward 25 and Ward 26, targeting unauthorized and illegal constructions in the Shalteng and Maloora areas.

This initiative carried out on the directions of Commissioner SMC, Dr. Owais Ahmed and supervised by the Enforcement Officer for Zone West, aims to reinforce municipal regulations and curb illegal building activities.

During the demolition drive, several unauthorized structures were dismantled, highlighting the SMC's commitment to maintaining urban order. The corporation strongly urges residents to obtain the necessary building permissions before undertaking any construction work.

Commissioner Dr. Owais Ahmed said, “We reiterate our appeal to the general public to adhere to legal processes and secure prior approvals from the competent authority to avoid punitive measures.”

SMC has increased its vigilance across Srinagar city and warns that violations of building norms will result in strict action.

Corporation remains dedicated to ensuring that all development within the city aligns with the Master Plan 2035.


 7 FBOs found operating in insanitary/ unhygienic condition in Hazratbal area penalized

SRINAGAR, APRIL 11: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, a Food Safety Team today conducted intensive inspections of various food outlets in Hazratbal area of the District.

During the inspection, some street vendors in Hazratbal market were found violating provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act. These violations included Temperature Control; High-risk food was exposed to temperature danger zones. Environmental Protection: High-risk food was not protected from environmental hazards.

At Hazratbal market about 7 FBOs were found operating in insanitary/ unhygienic conditions and improper handling of High Risk foods. Accordingly challan was submitted before Adjudicating Officer (ADC) Srinagar for violating various provisions of the Food Safety Act.

The Srinagar Food Safety Team led by Assistant Commissioner, Yameen ul Nabi has been working to strengthen its intelligence network to gather information about unhygienic or misbranded food items. This initiative aims to enhance food safety enforcement in District Srinagar.

Those Food Business Operators especially dealing with High Risk food are directed to maintain high standards of sanitary and Hygiene conditions of their establishments failing which strict action under FSS Act will be initiated against defaulters.

The Food Safety Team actively made food business operators aware of food safety laws. They were cautioned that strict action will be taken against violators.

Meanwhile, taking cognizance of the viral video that surfaced on social media yesterday, the Food Safety team inspected a meat shop in Hazratbal.

The shop was found to be non-operational for over 10 years, as confirmed by locals and the shopkeeper. However, the owner was discovered to be running a street vending business selling chicken, potentially storing equipment like wooden logs and knives within the shop premises.

 


BUDGAM, APRIL 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Budgam in collaboration with AICRP on Seed (Crops) NSP, Shalimar SKUAST Kashmir today organized an input distribution programme under Tribal Sub-Plan at KVK Budgam.

About 50 tribal farmers of village Lobran, Khag Block received 10q of high yielding SKUAST-K released variety of paddy seed (SR4) and Seed bins (50).

Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension SKUAST-K, chief guest on the occasion, stressed the need for adoption and dissemination of the high yielding university-released variety of Paddy.

Explaining about the benefits of the SR4 paddy variety, Director Extension, SKUAST-K said that the variety is climate resilient, less susceptible to diseases and has the potential to tolerate adverse weather conditions. She also briefed the farmers about the role of SKUAST-K in augmenting research in agriculture to facilitate the farming community in the valley.

Dr. Bilal Ahmad Lone (Prof. & Head KVK Budgam) briefed the tribal farmers about the role of KVK Budgam in facilitating agriculture and allied activities in the district through on farm trials, front line demonstrations and skill-based training/awareness programmes. He encouraged the farmers to avail the services of the Kendra for more profitable farming.

Dr. Gowhar Ali (Assoc. Prof. NSP) and Dr. Aflak Hamid (Assoc. Prof. NSP) deliberated upon the Package of Practices to be adopted for the SR4 variety.

Scientists and technical staff of KVK Budgam and NSP also attended the programme.

 


SHOPIAN, APRIL 10: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta today visited  historical Mughal Road up to Pir Ki Gali to take stock of the traffic worthiness of the road, post completion of snow clearance from Shopian side.

DC took stock of snow/ rock debris removal at vulnerable spots that remain affected due to continuous slide.

DC also met DC Poonch,Vikas Kundal at Pir ki Gali and discussed its re-opening.

The Mughal Road, a strategic link between the Pir Panjal area  and Shopian district in South Kashmir is a critical route for transport and public movement and the administration is eager to throw it open for traffic subject to the good weather conditions and traffic worthiness.

The decision to re-open the road shall be taken  in consultation with district administration Poonch. 

DC directed the concerned departments to expedite the clearance work of slide and rockfall completely so that safety protocols are in place for smooth and safe travel.

The administration shall be closely monitoring the situation of Mughal Road on a daily basis, said DC on the occasion and assured that the road will be opened for traffic soon.

 


BARAMULLA, APRIL 10: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) District Baramulla successfully kickstarted the much-awaited Inter-School Competitions with the Inter-School Zonal Level Chess Competition for Under-14 and Under-17 Boys.

The competition is being organized by the office of Zonal Physical Education Officer Sopore at Subhana Stadium, Sopore.

A total of 50 student participants representing 20 educational institutions from the Sopore zone locked minds in intense chess matches, demonstrating both skill and sportsmanship. The event served as a platform to promote analytical thinking, patience, and sports culture among school children.

DYSSO Baramulla expressed immense satisfaction with the enthusiastic response and reiterated the department’s commitment to ensuring holistic development of youth through such competitive and character-building platforms. 

He said the department aims to conduct a series of inter-school competitions in the coming weeks, embracing a variety of sports disciplines that align with the physical and mental well-being of students.


 SRINAGAR, APRIL 09: Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri on Wednesday chaired a meeting of officers to streamline and augment the tourist facilities for enriching their experience at the world famous tourist destination, Gulmarg.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla; Director Tourism Kashmir; Director ULB, Kashmir; MD Cable Car Corporation; CEO, Gulmarg Development Authority; RTO Kashmir; SSP Traffic besides other concerned officers.

Addressing the meeting; Div Com instructed MD Cable Car Corporation to increase the availability of online tickets for the Gondola ride from 3,400 to 5,000. He also directed the implementation of a tatkal booking system for a designated time slot one day in advance to optimize the Gondola service operations and improve crowd management.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the Gulmarg bowl and ensuring the collection of waste from Apharwat and Kongdoori, as well as addressing the issue of legacy waste.

Further, he directed for ensuring pothole free roads at tourist destination, regulation of traffic movement, management of parking spaces, besides enjoined for regulation of service providers. He also directed for enforcement of polythene ban at Gulmarg.

Moreover, he urged all departments to collaborate effectively to provide seamless and efficient services for tourists.

 

Stresses proactive approach in reaching out to the women in distress, ensuring timely assistance to victims

SRINAGAR APRIL 09: With an aim to ensure effective support for women affected by violence, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat today chaired a meeting at DC Office here to review the functioning of One Stop Centre (OSC), Bemina in helping women in distress and battling any form of violence.

At the outset, DC held a detailed review of the working of One Stop Centre and discussed various issues to further strengthen and broaden the activities of OSC. He directed the Officers to handle the cases of victims in a compassionate manner with extra care and precautions so that the affected women are rehabilitated with dignity.

The DC directed the concerned to show proactive approach in reaching out to the women in distress and cooperation to provide timely assistance to victims with legal protection. He also directed to spread mass awareness about the services of OSC through different kinds of IEC activities. He also stressed on increasing linkage of OSC with Police Stations.

Dr Bilal assured additional support from the administration for ensuring effective and efficient functioning of the One Stop Centre so that women in distress are provided integrated support and assistance both in private and public spaces, under one roof.

The meeting was informed that as many as 727 women visited the OSC Bemina and registered complaints, out of which 310 affected women were provided proper counseling at the centre while free legal aid was given to 188. In addition, free Medical aid has been given to 17 affected women, police assistance to 76 and shelter to 20 women victims of violence in the District.

The meeting was also informed that women victim of domestic violence, sexual harassment, dowry demand, property dispute etc can register her complaint on National Women Helpline 181 for seeking assistance.

 

Speaker adjourns Assembly Sine Die

JAMMU, APRIL 09:  Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather today adjourned the House sine die.

The 21 days assembly session commenced on 3rd March with LG’s address and culminated today on 9th April 2025 afternoon.

The Speaker informed the house that during the Session, 1355 questions were received; 154 main questions were taken up during this session while their 353 supplementaries were answered. He also informed the house that 1738 Cut Motions were also received and 1731 were taken up for the discussions.

The Speaker further informed the house that three Government Bills were received and subsequently passed by the house. He added that 33 Private Members Bills were also received and listed for the business.

The Speaker further informed the house that 78 Calling Attention Motions were received by the Assembly Secretariat, out of which 23 were listed for the business and 34 were disallowed.

The speaker said that the 21 day Budget session was second longest in the country during 2025.

He also informed that 109 resolutions were received during the session, out of which 85 were admitted and 14 were listed for business.

The Speaker further said that more than 39 hours were utilized during the Budget Session.

Speaker thanked all the Assembly Members for their cooperation for smooth conduct of the Assembly proceedings. He also thanked Information Department, Assembly Secretariat, Health Department, Radio, Doordarshan, J&K Police, Media and other stakeholders for support during the Budget Session.

 


SHOPIAN, APRIL 08: In compliance with the directions issued by the Deputy Commissioner Shopian, a joint inspection drive was carried out today by the concerned Drugs Control Officers in coordination with Tehsildars in various villages of Hermain and Keller tehsils.

The inspection was carried out in Pehlipora, Kellar, Mastpora, Mashwara, Wanpura, Batmurran, Narpora, Hermain, Alamgunj, Kumdalan, Nagisharan, Hajipora, Nildora, Kharwara, and D.K. Pora areas.

During the inspection, a total of 14 medical shops were sealed on the spot for violations including non-installation of computerized billing systems, non-maintenance of records of scheduled formulations and breach of license conditions despite repeated instructions.

CCTV footage of the inspected establishments was also reviewed to ensure transparency in operations.

The district administration  has emphasized that such  inspection drives will continue in future and warned all medical establishments to adhere strictly to the norms laid down under the Drugs and Cosmetic Act.


 SRINAGAR, APRIL 8: Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Khurshid Ahmad Shah, today convened a review meeting of Jal Shakti (PHE) divisions of Kashmir province in Civil Secretariat, Srinagar.

The meeting was attended by Superintending Engineers of respective circles,  Executive Engineers of Civil and Mechanical divisions and officers of Mission Directorate.

The MD enquired about the pace of execution of projects in the Kashmir region.  He was informed that with the arrival of outside labourers, execution of works specific to outside work force have gathered momentum while as the routine works like pipe laying and general civil works are being executed at steady pace. He directed the divisional officers to monitor these works expeditiously so that the quality of work is maintained as per set standards.

The MD directed the officers to reconcile the expenditure on Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) and Public Financial Management System (PFMS) by 10th April 2025 as directed by the Ministry Of Jal Shakti, Government of India. He also enjoined upon the officers to clear the disparities in fund utilisation between the two portals within one week.

The meeting also discussed uploading of data on PM Gati Shakti for which refresher training will be imparted at Chief Engineer, PHE Kashmir office tomorrow in batches.


 KUPWARA, APRIL 8: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Handwara, Javed Naseem Masoodi today paid a surprise visit to District Hospital Handwara to inspect its functioning.

During the visit, the ADC inspected various sections of the Hospital including OPD, Emergency, Gynea and other wards, and checked the duty roster of the doctors and hospital staff.

The ADC interacted with the patients and enquired about the healthcare and treatment facilities provided in the hospital.

He also interacted with the doctors and medical staff, and impressed upon them to work with more dedication and ensure that all the patients especially coming from far flung areas are provided better healthcare facilities.

 

Directs time-bound execution of works under Health, Education, PDD & Jal Shakti Sectors approved under DMF

BUDGAM, APRIL 08: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Akshay Labroo today chaired a meeting of District Mineral Fund (DMF) to review the status of works approved under Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojna (PMKKKY) in the district.

DC reviewed the status of works approved under DMF in the areas with high priority and other priority sectors.

The series of developmental works amounting to Rs.327.71 lakh covers vital sectors including Health, Education, Power Development and Jal Shakti, aiming to strengthen public infrastructure and improve service delivery across the district.

Key works approved under the Health sector include the provision of hotline connectivity at CHC Kremshore, CHC Chattergam, PHC Soibugh, PHC Ompora, PHC Khag, and CHC Pakherpora. In addition, procurement of critical medical equipment such as digital X-ray cassettes, biochemistry analysers, deep freezers, plasma expressers, autoclaves, and microscopes for District Hospital Budgam was approved.

Under the Jal Shakti Department, the procurement of water tankers of 9000-litre and 6000-litre capacities will address water supply needs in the district.

In the Education sector, works include the construction of a toilet facility at Mixed Primary School Gopalpora and provision of electricity at Government schools in Khan Mohalla Kuzwera and Dounkal Bagh Sail.

The Power Development Department will establish a buffer stock of 15 (100 KVA) transformers to strengthen power infrastructure and ensure timely replacements during exigencies.

The DC, while reviewing the status of approved works, emphasized that all the projects have been identified based on priority public needs and sectoral gaps.

He directed the concerned departments to ensure immediate initiation of tendering and procurement processes, with strict adherence to timelines.

He stressed that there must be no delays at any stage of execution and that timely completion of these works is critical to ensuring outcomes on the ground on time.

The DC further instructed regular monitoring and submission of progress reports to his office for review.

The meeting was attended by Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Circle, Budgam, CEO, CMO, Executive Engineers of Jal Shakti, KPDCL, REW, MS Budgam and other concerned officials of the committee.


Says Govt will take viewpoint of every section of society to arrive at an amicable solution where everyone’s interest is safeguarded

SRINAGAR, APRIL 06: The three member Cabinet Sub-Committee on reservation rules under the chairmanship of Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, interacted with several public delegations and students regarding their grievances on reservation rules at SKICC here today.

Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmad Rana and Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma (members of Sub-committee); Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Sanjeev Verma; Commissioner Secretary, GAD, M Raju; Secretary Law, Achal Sethi and senior officers from General Administration department and Social Welfare department also participated in the meeting.

During the interaction, the delegations presented their view point before the Sub-committee regarding existing reservation policy.

While examining their grievances and issues regarding reservation rules, the Sub-Committee assured them that the government will take viewpoint of every section of society to arrive at an amicable solution where everyone’s interest is safeguarded.

The Sub-Committee further said that they are open for discussions with everyone in order to reach cordial solution.

The Sub-Committee added that they will present its report within the given time frame of six months to the council of ministers headed by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.

Pertinently, the Cabinet Sub-Committee was constituted by the Omar Abdullah led government after assuming power to look into grievances projected by several section of aspirants against the existing reservation rules.

SRINAGAR, APRIL 04: Minister for Food Civil Supply & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Information Technology, Science and Technology, ARI & Trainings, Satish Sharma, today declared open the “All India University Powerlifting Championship 2025” at University of Kashmir.

The event is being organised by the University of Kashmir in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities.  More than 1200 best athletes from around 150 Universities from across India are participating in the tournament.

Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir Professor Nilofer Khan presided over the event, while VC CUK Professor Ravinder Nath, VC IUST, Professor Shakeel A. Romshoo and VC CUK Professor Mohammad Mubeen were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister asserted that this championship will set a new benchmark in promoting inclusivity, equality and sports excellence in J&K. He exhorted that presence of so many athletes reflects the growing enthusiasm, commitment and discipline of our youth towards fitness and competitive sports.

The Minister emphasized that Powerlifting is not just a physical test, but, a symbol of inner resilience, mental grit and determination. "It teaches us that even the heaviest challenges can be lifted with consistent efforts and perseverance", he added.

The Minister said that the government believes in transformative power of sports in shaping character, instilling discipline and fostering excellence. He reiterated that J&K has witnessed a huge resurgence in sports in recent past and the government under the leadership of Chief Minister is committed to strengthen the sports ecosystem by providing facilities at grassroots level to elite level training so that our youth can shine on global platforms.

The Minister said that initiatives like Khelo India, Fit India Movement, National School Games and University level championships are paving the way for stronger, healthier and more confident India.

Satish Sharma added that in this era of technology and digital transformation, sports play a vital role in keeping us physically and mentally strong and also keep our youth away from various social ills.

The Minister commended the University of Kashmir for organising this grand event. He said that hosting national level championships is not only a matter of pride but also a testament to the University's determination in promoting youth engagement, sportsmanship and national integrity.
